									Professor Myrto Dragona-Monachou

Dragona-Monachou Myrto, Professor of Philosophy, University of Athens (Dept.of
History and Philosophy of Science). Born in 1953 in Calamata, she studied at the
School of Philosophy of the University of Athens and as holder of State scholarship
she got her Ph.D. at Univesity College London. She taught at Secondary Education
(1963-1972), as was research fellow at the Research Center for Greek Philosophy at
the Academy of Athens 91973-1981) and was elected professor of philosophy at the
University of Crete (1982-1998). Since 1998 she teaches Greek Philosophy, Modern
Ethics, Bioethics and Social Philosophy at the University of Athens. Main
publications : The Stoic Arguments in the Philosophy of the Empire(ANRW 1994),
Philosophy and Human Rights (in Greek, 1986), Contemporary Moral Philosophy (in
greek, 1995). She is editor of Proceedings of several Conferences, she has organized
and participated in many international and national Congresses and Colloquia and she
has published more than 100 scholarly articles in Greece and abroad and several other
papers of general interest in journals and newspapers as well as many articles in
Encyclopedias. She was President of the Administrative Committee of the Greek State
Scholarships Foundation and of the Greek Philosophical Society, she is member of
the c.d. of FISP and President of the Committee of the “World Decade for Human
Rights Education”.
Since 2000 full member at the Hellenic National Bioethics Commission
She speaks English and French and reads German and Italian.
