The AquaSmarter Advantage
• Contaminant build-up resulting from excessive microbial growth and
biodegradation of diesel fuel can cause fuel filter clogging. Micro
organisms, bacteria and enzyme activity, fungus, yeast and mold
cause diesel fuel degradation and the formation of waste products.
The process is similar to milk turning into cottage cheese. The
application of a biocide aggravates this situation and turns bio-film
into solids. This will create a real fuel filter nightmare. Bio-film
develops throughout the entire diesel fuel system. It grows in the
water fuel interface and on the walls, baffles and bottoms of fuel
storage tanks. An unlucky end user may be filling up his fuel tank
and getting this debris delivered as a part of his diesel fuel, for the
same price as the diesel fuel. We can prevent this and all of the fuel
system problems that come along with microbes, by using our
Residual Effect of Ionization.
• How are people in the biodiesel industry dealing with this storage
problem created by microbes? Biocides are recommended to be
added to biodiesel to help control the growth of Fuel Bugs. Some
people use vitamin E as a well as rosemary extract for their
antioxidant properties in place of biocides to control microbe growth.
This is probably because most biodiesel producers are
environmentalists who do not want to use chemical biocides.
Ionization technology offers an environmentally friendly solution for
a long term storage that far exceeds anything else currently available
to the industry because of the residual effect that our product offers.
Neither biocides or antioxidants can offer the residual effect of our
technology to solve the storage problems that face the entire
induustry. There does not seem to be a clear industry standard as to
what to do about the long term storage problems created by
microbes. We need to make Ionization Technology the standard
‘answer’ to this problem which the entire biodiesel industry faces.
Application for Biodiesel
• Biodiesel is approved for use in non-tactical military vehicles.
• In 1999, the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense issued a
memorandum stating B20 is suitable for use in administrative
(commercial) vehicles. However, biodiesel is not currently
approved for use in tactical vehicles due to the long-term
storage problems associated with biodiesel.

Water Contamination in Biodiesel
Biodiesel is more susceptible to water contamination than petroleum
The presence of water in biodiesel or any fuel can promote corrosion of
fuel system components and growth of micro-organisms.
Water accelerates the growth of microbe colonies, which can clog up a
fuel system. Because the nature of biodiesel is organic and not
petroleum based, biodiesel inherently contains more water than
petroleum based diesel. Biodiesel also provides a healthier
environment for the growth of microbes. Microbes grow best in warm
conditions such as in the south or in the southwest. Biodiesel users in
colder northern areas who have heated fuel tanks also face a year-
round microbe problem.
Ion Production to control Microbes
•Positively charged Ions are obtained by means of
electrolysis, Cu+, Cu++ and Ag+ cations.
•When the Cu+ ion is dissolved into fuel, it oxidizes
immediately to Cu++.

•Controlling Microbes by means of the elimination of water or

AquaSmarter application for Microbes
AquaSmarter acts as a disinfectant and biological purification
system by means of the ionization process to eliminate the
Diesel Bug (Cyanobacteria). It also has a residual effect to keep
diesel free from microbes for a full 12-months.
Microbes cause problems because they promote corrosion and
their physical presence leads to clogging of filters, injectors and
nozzles. Controlling micro biologics is difficult because it is
almost impossible to exclude water entirely from commercial
hydrocarbon fuels. This is why ionization is so important for the
long term control of microbes in stored diesel fuel.
