This course is an introduction to the concepts of inorganic chemistry including structures of matter,
atomic theory, nomenclature, bonding, bases and introduction to organic chemistry. Six contact hours:
four lecture/discussion hours, two laboratory hours.
The student will benefit by taking high school Algebra or MAT 1033 prior to enrolling in this course.
This course is for students who have had no previous chemistry and plan to major in Dental Hygiene,
Medical Technology, Nursing and Health related field.
General Information
Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classes/labs and be there on time.
Assignments: All assignments are to be submitted on the "due date" posted on the assignment.
(Note: There will be a 50% penalty for late assignments. No assignments/lab reports will
be accepted after the regular papers have been graded and returned to the class. )
Testing: Progress tests will be given according to an announced schedule. A proposed test schedule is
given; this schedule may be varied during the course. Any change of test schedule will be announced in
the class period. You are solely responsible to note the changes, if any. The final exam (Progress test #6)
would be given at the assigned period during the examination schedule of the college.
All students must take the final exam. (Final exam is from Chapter 10 & 11 only)
Note: (No absent or excuse dropping the final exam allowed).
Test Make Ups: No makeup tests or labs will be given during the term.
Grading System: Tests and Final 70%
Labs (Reports and quizzes) 25%
Attendance Home Work &
class Participation 5%
Total Points % 100-90 = A 89-80 = B 79-70 = C 69-60 = D; below 60 = F
NP (Non punitive) Grades: No NP grades will be given under any circumstances. Note: Handouts
are given once during class time. If you absent for a handout, it is your responsibility to borrow one from
a fellow student and photocopy it. (Last day to drop the class with a grade of “W” is March 27, 2006)
