She feels that these high school exchange students are
young enough that the experience makes an
impression on them far beyond that gained by the
older Ambassadorial Scholarship students. The
Rotary Youth Exchange program is now 60 years old,
so that thousands of students must have profited from
it. Kelly and another former exchange student,
Candace, have established a website,
www.newcompass.org to locate others who have been
a part of the program. They hope to write a book of
their stories and to gain donations and grants to
provide scholarships for future Rotary Exchange
Students. These will supplement the support they get
from their Rotary districts. While overseas, most of
the students’ expenses are paid except for any travel
costs they will be expected to incur. Scholarships
would cover the items that Rotary support does not.
