On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to extend to you a cordial invitation to
participate in the Opening Ceremony of the XI Annual Binational Health Week (BHW) and the
Binational Policy Forum on Migration and Global Health. The event will take place in San
Antonio, Texas, on October 3 and 4, 2011.
Binational Health Week (BHW) is one of the largest joint mobilization efforts of community
organizations, and federal, state, and local agencies to improve the health and wellbeing of the
most vulnerable population of Mexican and Latin American people living in the United States.
With a decade of experience, various government and non-government agencies form the U.S.
and Mexico, as well as other countries including Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala,
Honduras, Peru, and Bolivia, have collaborated to carry out health promotion activities among
the Spanish-speaking population.
The Binational Forum is part of the inaugural event of BHW and it aims is to convene key
stakeholders from various sectors such as government, academia and non-profit organizations,
to foster dialogue on the health challenges of the migrant population and to explore
collaborative opportunities to raise their quality of life. The program will address the following
topics: Chronic Diseases, Infectious Diseases, Women's Health, Mental Health and Access to
Health Services.
The Forum is made possible through the coordinating efforts of Mexico’s Secretariats of Health
and of Foreign Affairs, through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad; the Health Initiative of the
Americas, of the University of California at Berkeley; the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention; the Mexican Consulate in San Antonio; and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
We look forward for your participation in order to continue coordinating efforts to
improve the health of the underserved Latino population.
