   Changing actions today will affect future generations
    positively

   Human actions need to change in order to preserve the
    planet

   Environmental resources are becoming limited, thus
    environmental management is important

   Viterbo can make improvements environmentally, socially,
    and economically

   All dimensions of the campus can be addressed on campus
    including curriculum, facilities, operations, and community
   To produce each week’s Sunday newspapers, 500,000 trees must be cut
    down and in return one Sunday newspaper can be recycled 7 times


   Current behaviors illustrate waste production is increasing; therefore it is
    important to adapt waste management into everyday practices


   By adapting new waste management policies, Viterbo will be able to limit
    the amount of trash produced and increase recycling


   The components addressed were: trash, recycling, and commingled

   -Develop a Materials Exchange Program by 2012 to allow
    students to exchange items that may still be used, rather
    than contributing to landfill waste.

   -Increase residence hall recycling by 50% by placing clearly
    marked recycle bins and donation bins on every residence
    hall floor by 2011

   -Reduce the amount of waste Viterbo University
    contributes to landfills by 50% by the year 2020.

   -Implement electronic waste program on campus by 2012.

   Addition to the goals delineated above, further
    goals include: construction and demolition waste
    diversion, hazardous waste management,
    materials exchange, limiting printing, materials
    online, chemical reuse inventory, and move-in
    and move-out waste reduction
   The Student Activities Board used toilet paper and paper towel rolls
    in a creative way to decorate for Homecoming

   Free Radicals participate in highway clean-ups each semester and
    educate children at the Boys and Girls Club about recycling

   Student Government Association holds a clothing drive around
    campus each semester, to help eliminate the waste of unwanted
    clothing

   Students in Free Enterprise have held a food weigh-in to demonstrate
    just how much food is wasted by students on campus

   The Registrar, Business, and Financial Offices use an electronic data
    process and have eliminated paper schedules, registration, and loan
    notification documents

   Monthly paper billing and mailed award letters will soon be online as
    well
   Recycling tournaments between residence halls would get
    students excited about recycling and increase the amount
    of materials recycled overall
   A development of a Take-it-or-leave it program to reduce
    waste and allows students to donate unwanted items for
    others to use is recommended
   contact a surplus store to collect university owned
    property for redistribution or public resale
   a program could be implemented to compost the unused
    food and use it in place of chemical fertilizer on campus
   choose to include links on the University Website with an
    educational purpose
   bringing sustainability into the curriculum
 An  Environmental Responsibility Committee
  is currently in place to address moving the
  University in a more sustainable direction
 By creating policies concerning recycling,
  reduction of waste, paper reduction, and
  sustainability education, the University can
  take steps to achieving the goals
 The  Reinhart Center is the leading facility on
  campus in recycling
 McDonald Terrace leads in trash disposal
 It is extremely important to start recycling
  in Student Housing because there is a lack of
  recycling based upon data analysis
 An increase in education can help students
  recycle.
 The recommended initiatives and policies
  can help decrease waste disposal and
  increase recycling efforts.
