       A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and

honor of Darrell Florence.

       With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Darrell

Florence, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

       WHEREAS, Darrell Florence was born on August 25, 1937, a native of

Hodgenville, Larue County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January

1, 2003; and

       WHEREAS, Darrell Florence was the loving son of the late James Henry and
Germaine Bartley Florence, and he also was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce

Phillips and Judy Fehrman; he was the devoted husband of Judy Walters Florence; he was

the loving father of a daughter, Dara Ann Rogers of Hodgenville, and a son, John David

Florence of Glasgow; he was the proud grandfather of three grandchildren, Shelby

Rogers, Kylie Rogers, and Jill Taylor Florence; and he also leaves behind three sisters,

Shirley Smith, Wilma Priddy, and Sharon Florence, all of Louisville, and two brothers,

George William Florence of Elizabethtown, and Kenneth Florence of Louisville; and

       WHEREAS, Darrell Florence graduated from Larue County High School and from

Union College in Barbourville, where he was the recipient of a basketball scholarship;


       WHEREAS, Darrell Florence was an esteemed member of the Larue County

community, where he was a member of First Baptist Church in Hodgenville; he was

beginning his second term as mayor of Hodgenville; and he was a retired administrator

for the Barren County School System; and

       WHEREAS, the passing of Darrell Florence has left a void that cannot be filled, and

he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;


Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the

Commonwealth of Kentucky:

       Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of

sorrow upon the passing of Darrell Florence, and extends to his family and many friends

its most heartfelt sympathy.

       Section 2.   When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in

loving memory and honor of Darrell Florence.

       Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit

a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Judy Walters Florence, 401 South Lincoln Boulevard,

Hodgenville, Kentucky 42748.
