       A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and

honor of Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams.

       With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Lieutenant

Colonel Harlen Granville Adams, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams was born on January 4,

1933, a resident of Winchester, Kentucky, and traversed these earthly bounds on August

19, 2005; and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams was the devoted and
loving husband of Recia Susan Adams of Winchester, Kentucky; and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams was the beloved father of

Susan Jane Reddie of Las Vegas, Nevada; Harlen Francis Adams of Houston, Texas;

Jonathan Lee Stanley of Lexington, Kentucky; and Lorilee Marie Bulak of Baldwinsville,

New York; and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams was the loving brother of

David L. Adams of Fort Worth, Texas and the grandfather of Melanie Howe, Natalie

Reddie, Steven Reddie, Megan Jessica Stanley, Jonathan Samuel Stanley, Devin Lake

Adams, Justin Bulak, Jessica Bulak, and Zachary Bulak; and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams was a beloved and

faithful member of the Central Baptist Church in Winchester, Kentucky; and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams served his country with

distinction in the United States Air Force for 28 years where he was an accomplished and

decorated jet fighter, bomber, cargo pilot in combat, and a military flight instructor; and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams received numerous

awards for his military service including: the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army

Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign
Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Small Arms Expert

Marksmanship Ribbon, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the AG Longevity Service

Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the AG Organizational Excellence

Medal; and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams was decorated while in

Vietnam after safely evacuating Vietnamese refugees from a combat zone when the C-

130 aircraft he was piloting damaged its landing gear and he successfully landed the plane

without landing gear and saved the lives of the crew and the Vietnamese families aboard;

and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams was an airline ground
school instructor, a civilian aircraft pilot, a member of the Experimental Aircraft

Association, and a member of the Presidential Board of NASA Affairs; and

       WHEREAS, the passing of Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams has left a

void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the

Commonwealth;

       NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the

Commonwealth of Kentucky:
       Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of

sorrow upon the passing of Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams and extends to

his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

       Section 2.    The House of Representatives recognizes that Lieutenant Colonel

Harlen Granville Adams was deeply loved by his family and friends and the members

further acknowledge his brave and steadfast service to the United States Air Force.

       Section 3.   When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in

loving memory and honor of Lieutenant Colonel Harlen Granville Adams.

       Section 4. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit
a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Recia Susan Adams, 21 Hampton Avenue, Winchester,

Kentucky 40391.
