							Delve into Samsung Skyrocket
Samsung is definitely one of the leading names when it comes to manufacturing high quality
smartphones. You might not know it, but their phones are garnering great reviews, and their phones are
also one of the leading innovators.

For example, Samsung has a special line of phones, the Nexus series. This phone is made in partnership
with Google. The Nexus series are always the first phones in the world to receive the latest version of
Android, without any modification in the interface by the manufacturer.

The latest Galaxy phone, the Galaxy Nexus, is the first one to receive Android 4.0, nicknamed the Ice
Cream Sandwich. It was a hit when it was released in November. Plenty of reviewers are already calling
it one of the best smartphones in 2011, despite being released only in November. That’s how innovative
the phone is.

While the Galaxy Nexus is indeed a very popular phone, Samsung also offers other alternatives, such as
the popular Galaxy S II, and its bigger brother, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket. The Skyrocket is definitely
something you should check out. It’s got all the features that make Samsung one of the leading
manufacturers of smartphones.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S II is already a large phone with a large screen, but the Skyrocket pushes things a
little further. The Skyrocket is definitely one of the biggest smartphones out there.

When you hold a Skyrocket in the palm of your hand, the first thing you’re going to notice is the huge
size. It measures 5.15 inches tall, 2.75 inches wide. Luckily, the phone sports a thin profile, measuring at
0.37 inches thick. It may not be the most pocket – friendly phone out there, but at least Samsung has
made the effort to make it thin enough.

Don’t mistake the phone for feeling like a brick though. It has smooth curves that make it comfortable to
the touch. It’s also pretty lightweight for its size, weighing in at only 4.71 ounces. The high quality plastic
makes it possible to achieve this weight.
Display

Like other high – end Samsung smartphones, the Skyrocket has a large display. With the Skyrocket, you
get a huge 4.5 inch screen with Super AMOLED Plus technology. It’s the same technology found on the
Galaxy S II. These screens are considered one of the best looking screens ever created.

With the large size, you’ll definitely enjoy watching movies, surfing the net and playing games. Though it
has an 800 x 400 screen resolution, don’t worry. Numbers aren’t everything. It’s still one of the best
screens around.

User interface

Samsung has added very cool motion gestures to navigate around the phone. For example, you can flip
the phone over if you want to mute it. You can also tilt the phone while placing two fingers on the
screen to zoom in. You can also flick the phone left or right to move a home screen icon. It is features
like this that make the Skyrocket a captivating phone to have.

The Skyrocket, like the Galaxy S II, uses the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread as the operating system. The
Gingerbread is one of the most popular operating systems found on smartphones. Plenty of other
brands use this, such as HTC and Motorola.

You get seven home screens to place all the widgets and apps. That’s a lot! You also get cool additions,
such as a task manager. That’ll make uninstallation of apps easier to do. You can even capture
screenshots by pressing the power button and home key at the same time.

But let’s dive into the features of Gingerbread:

One of the first things you’re going to notice with the Gingerbread is the home screen. While it is similar
to the iPhone in that it has apps displayed on the home screen, the Android offers more.

One of the first things you’ll notice is that not only can you place apps on the home screen, you can also
place widgets.
Widgets are icons that update information right on your home screen. For example, you can install a
weather widget and it’ll display the weather in your area. If you want to go into greater detail, you can
tap on the widget and it’ll take you to the app itself.

Plenty of widgets work like that, but there are also widgets that make things convenient for you. For
example, you can just toggle the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth without having to go the Options. These little
things make it easier to navigate the interface, and it makes the screen more interesting too.

The Gingerbread also has a pull down notification bar. Just swipe down from the top of the screen and
you get a list of notifications. You can reply to texts, email and update apps just by opening the
notification tray. Unlike with the iPhone, you get a blue box interrupting you. This is one advantage of
the Android over the iPhone.

What’s cool is that Samsung has decided to throw in some of their own stuff. They call it the TouchWiz.
Don’t worry because they didn’t change the anything about the look of the interface. They added stuff
that makes things even better.

They give you access to live panels. These are widgets, only larger. You can view content such as emails
and calendar all in one portion of the screen.

You also get stuff like the Social Hub. It consolidates all the updates of your contact’s social media
profiles in one smooth interface. Facebook updates, Twitter updates and other social media content will
be shown in this app. You don’t have to log onto the respective apps to view anything anymore.

You also get media related stuff, such as a store where you can rent videos. This will maximize the huge
screen of the Skyrocket.
Connectivity Features

With a smartphone that has an elegant interface and display screen, it’s no surprise that there will be
plenty of additional stuff.

One cool feature of this phone is that it is a world phone. This is great, especially if you travel abroad
frequently. You’ll be able to connect to other networks that use different radio frequency bands.

Also you get standard smartphone goodies like Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi and GPS. You also get 4G support. If
you live in a city that has great data speeds, you can average at least 15 mbps when downloading. That’s
mighty fast!

Other Features

The Skyrocket also has NFC technology. That means you can use the phone to
interact with other devices that have an NFC chip embedded in them. For
example, you can use the Skyrocket to act as your credit card, or you can use
it to open NFC – compatible locks. The possibilities will be endless, once the
United States introduces NFC technology to the masses.

Since Android is owned by Google, Android has all the Google services
everyone’s familiar with. These apps include Gmail, Maps, and Google search.
There’s also Google Talk, Places, YouTube and Latitude. These apps will certainly increase productivity
and make everything easier.
Samsung has also thrown in plenty of other apps here. You get the Amazon Kindle App, Quickoffice, Kies
Air (which allows you to sync the phone to your PC via Wi-Fi), among others. If you’re an AT&T
subscriber, you get apps like the AT&T Code Scanner, AT&T FamilyMap, AT&T Navigator and other stuff.
This phone is really a wonder to behold.

Camera

There are two cameras for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket. At the front, there’s a 2 megapixel
camera, which you can use to initiate video chats.

The main camera has a rating of 8 megapixels. It has plenty of tools to go along with the already
powerful camera. It has color effects, white – balance controls, ISO settings and an image editor where
you can crop photos.

Performance

The phone is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual – core Qualcomm processor. This allows videos to have smooth
playback. Navigating the interface is also very easy. There’s very little lag when moving around home
screens and loading apps.

The battery has a rated talk time of 7 hours. You get 10.4 hours of standby, or at least 250 hours. That’s
a lot of juice from a big phone.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy S II is definitely one of the best phones your money can buy. If you’re out hunting
for a new phone, you can definitely check this out. Be ready to buy pants with bigger pockets.
