                   PLANNING YOUR perfect DAY
Your wedding day is a day for everyone because of all the wonderful and memorable things that will
happen. Planning your wedding is an exciting time for both to share…choosing your rings, gazing
at beautiful dresses, preparing your new home, these all need time. Eight or nine months before
your day gives you plenty of time to enjoy all the preparations of getting married but much shorter
                   timescales are perfectly possible.

Your wedding plans should be fun. At the Best Western Braid Hills Hotel, we have many years of
experience catering for all tastes and will be happy to advise you or offer assistance with any of your
arrangements to ensure a memorable and special day.

                   THE FIRST STEPS
The first thing you will be planning for your wedding is the budget. You will find that your parents will
be enormous help to you in discussing the budget, as they will have first hand knowledge of the best
way to allocate the money. On your special day you will want the best of everything, so plan carefully
the style of service, reception and honeymoon.
YOUR SPECIAL DAY

Talk between yourselves and your respective parents about the kind of service you would like, you
may wish to be married in a church or prefer a Registrar’s Office, alternatively you may wish to hold
your ceremony within the hotel. When you have decided, visit your Church or Registrar and make
arrangements for your marriage ceremony. They will be of great help to you both and will explain
everything you need to know about walking up the aisle and saying “I do”. If you wish a rehearsal,
this can be arranged to set your minds at ease and assure you that all will be perfect on your
wedding day. Take this opportunity to apply for a marriage licence if necessary.

                   BRIDESMAIDS AND BEST MAN
It is now a good time to think of bridesmaids or attendants and the Bridegroom’s aide, the Best Man.
When your decision is made, you can start shopping with them. This is especially exciting for the Bride
and Bridesmaids, going from shop to shop almost spellbound by the beauty and selection of gowns,
                   dresses and the fabrics available.

The Bridegroom and best man can also discuss their choice of attire too. Morning Dress, full Highland
Regalia or less formal tailored suits can all be hired inexpensively for the day.

                   BOOK YOUR RECEPTION
After you have chosen your date, arrange and book your Reception…

Spring, Summer and Autumn are all popular for Weddings and it may be necessary to book
well in advance if you want a Friday or Saturday wedding, although Sundays and weekdays are
                   increasingly becoming more popular.

We will be happy to offer you professional advice on catering matters, styles of seating arrangements
and anything else you may wish to discuss.

You will have discussed between yourselves who to invite, so make a check-list, it is easy to forget
someone when you have so many people who will want to be there to share your special day. Think
of all your relatives and friends on both sides and list them for your respective mothers to compile a
                   guest list.

                    BRIDE’S MOTHER
The bride’s mother is traditionally in charge of all the proceedings.

She chooses the venue and together with the bridegroom’s mother, she plans a guest list.

She handles any catering arrangements and ensures the wedding cake is ready.

and his parents receive the guests at the reception.

                THE PERFECT RECEPTION
At the reception the usual line-up waiting to greet the guests is as follows: the bride’s parents,
followed by the bridegroom’s parents, then the bride and bridegroom and lastly the bridesmaids
                and best man.

This line-up ensures that both families have the opportunity to speak to all the guests, but
conversation should be kept to a polite minimum as the queue can become unwieldy.

Most receptions begin with an aperitif of sherry or champagne or wine served before the meal.

Include non-alcoholic alternatives for children and those who are driving.
THE TOP TABLE

                TOASTS AND SPEECHES
These would normally take place at the end of the meal and would accompany the cutting and
distribution of the wedding cake. The following is the usual order of proceedings

                1. The bride and bridegroom cut the cake

                2. Toast to “The Bride and Bridegroom”. This is normally proposed by the bride’s father or a close
relative or friend of the family.

                3. Toast to “The Bridesmaids”. This is always proposed by the bridegroom following his response
                       to the first toast.

                4. The best man would then respond to the bridegroom’s speech on behalf of the bridesmaids.
He would also read the congratulatory messages to the guests.
