New Building Construction
Deborah provided each member with a copy of the new Cosmetology Department layout
and a detailed description of all entities contained within each area. She explained that
the remaining area will be available in approximately two years, for the additions of our
theory classes and possibly an Esthetician Department.
All of the advisory members expressed delight to the eloquently lavished facility the
college has proposed for our department. However, at this time Deborah made us aware
of the short fall of $11,500.00 in funds available for cabinets and receptionist counter
area. She indicated that the designers were able to reduce this amount by $3,300.00 using
substitute cabinets material, leaving an $8,545.00 balance needed to complete this portion
of the renovation.
These revelations led to a discussion of available options for securing the needed funds to
acquire a receptionist area comparable for our facility. The following suggestions were
Call our vendor West Coast Beauty Supply
Maly’s Beauty Supply
B.J. Beauty Supply
Consult with Don Schultz,
Request client donations for needed funds
Send letter to students and families and alumni to submit donations
Obtain suggestion from students
Request donations from salon in which our graduate are employed
Initiate a promotion to raise the needed funds (bake sale)
Elevating ASSET/COMPASS Scores
The Advisory Committee voted to increase the qualifying score for English Reading
Skills for all future enrollees. This change is request to eliminate the boarder line and
remedial readers who require special accommodations and assistance to adequately
perform in the Cosmetology subject matter area.
Keith McGlashan made the motion to implement the proposed action and Mary Fuller,
second then it was accepted by all members present.
The provision for instituting a Cosmetology Scholarship Fund will be discussed during
our Winter Advisory meeting.
Future Meeting Dates
The Advisory Committee tentatively established a winter and spring meeting date for
February 14, 2005 at 9:00 am. and May 16, 2005 at 9:00 am.
