1.    Role
      Providing a 24/7 intelligence support to WMCTU.

2.    RESPONSIBILITIES

        a) To receive, assess, develop and investigate all new lead
           intelligence entering the CTU and initiating action appropriate to
           the threat.

        b) Working with partner agencies to provide intelligence support to
           major covert investigations for International Counter Terrorism
           (ICT) and Domestic Extremism (DE).

        c) Liaising with and point of contact for Local Policing Units (LPU’s)
           and regional partners in the development of new lead intelligence.

        d) Provide intelligence support when executive action is taken.

        e) Single point of contact for CTU duty senior officer.

        f) Conduct intelligence debriefs where appropriate.

        g) Handling of covertly obtained material in accordance with
           identified policy and process.

        h) Provide intelligence cell support to overt/covert major incidents

        i) Out of hours cover for internal and external enquiries for Regional
           partners and LPU’s.

        j) Preparation of RIPA applications
3.    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

      i)       Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

      ii)      Knowledge of Covert and Overt intelligence practices

      iii)     Knowledge of MOPI and NIM

      iv)      Sensitivity to the needs of the diverse communities served by the
               unit.

      v)       Initiative and innovation while working as part of a team.

      vi)      The potential to undertake sensitive high profile enquiries with
               limited supervision and therefore exhibit high standards of
               integrity and professionalism.

4.    DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

        i)      Knowledge of CTU/CTIU/Special Branch structure and practices.

        ii)     Knowledge of covert policing techniques and major investigations

        iii)    RIPA applicant

5.    SUPERVISION RECEIVED
      Intelligence Supervisor

6.    CONTACTS OUTSIDE OWN SECTION
      Regular contact with Police Officers of all ranks and support staff.
      Regular contact will also be made with members of the public and other
      agencies.

7.    SPECIAL CONDITIONS
      Must maintain confidentiality and trust at all times regarding information
      gained in the post. Personal vetting will be required. The role requires
      the post holder to perform duties on a regional basis. A willingness to
      travel around the region and be available when required responding to
      call out at short notice


The Authority reserves the right to vary the duties and responsibilities of
staff under conditions prescribed in National Agreement. Thus, it must
be appreciated that the above duties may be altered as the future
changing needs of the service may require. In addition, members of staff
are liable to serve at any of the Authority’s places of employment as may
