distinct natural number divisors: 1 and itself. Natural number is a positive integer number.

Prime numbers are positive, non-zero numbers that have exactly two factors -- no more, no
less.

Note: There is a limit to how big of a number you can check, depending on your browser, and
operating system. When calculating prime numbers larger than 99999999999999 be sure to
check if the calculator changed your number.

a number is prime if it can only be divided by 1 and itself

For example, 8 is not prime because it can be divided by 2

7 is prime because it can only be divided by 1 and 7 Sometimes, it is tricky to see if a number
is prime or not. Try putting 93 in the calculator and you will see that 93 is not prime because it
can be divided by 3 and 31. However, 93 looks prime if you do not take time to think about.

The Prime Number Trick

Using prime numbers, you can amaze your friends with a prime prediction...

1.    Ask your friends to pick any prime number bigger than 5, but they must not tell you what it
is.
2.    Square it. (In other words multiply the prime number by itself.)
3.    Add 17
4.    Divide by 12

then 3, then subtract 1, the answer always divides by 24!
E.g. 112 = 121 then 121 - 1 = 120 and yes 120 does divide by 24.

If you understand algebra, (and you've read The Phantom X ) then you'll know that all prime
numbers can be written as (6n+1) or (6n-1).

(6n+1)2 = 36n2+12n+1. So (6n+1)2 -1 = 36n2+12n. This factorises to 12n(3n+1). Either n or
(3n+1) must be even, therefore the whole expression must be divisible by 24.

(6n-1)2 = 36n2-12n+1. So (6n-1)2 -1 = 36n2-12n. This factorises to 12n(3n-1). Either n or (3n-
1) must be even, therefore the whole expression must be divisible by 24.
