January will soon come to a close with a cold and snowy month. Many people took to the trails to ski, snowmobile and just enjoy the
outdoor winter activities. Ice fishing is slowly picking up with perch and walleye in Van Ettan Lake and pike in the backwaters of Foote
Our new Board of Directors for 2009 is as follows: President, Sandy McCracken, Vice President, Jimmy Luthmann, Secretary/Treasurer,
Rhonda Cope — Rick Michaels, Michael Eller, Lori Luedtke, Kathy Morgan-Jones, JoAnn Erikson, and Carol Roelandt. Their volunteer
service to the Chamber and the Community requires a great deal of time and effort to bring you a healthy and well rounded business area.
Our Annual Dinner on January 24th was exceptional. We had over 80 guests attend for a wonderful buffet followed by a great speaker
who gave us the incentive to create goals for our businesses and personal lives. The awards ceremony closed the evening event presenting
awards to Pat Shiflet for “Citizen of the Year Award”, Downtown Beautification Committee for “Community Service Award”, and Peggy
Clarke of the Oscoda Press for “Customer Service Award”.
RSVP’s are required for the “Lunch & Learns” held on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 12 noon to 1pm. Contact the Chamber if
you would like to be a guest speaker or to sign up as an attendee. Mike Pangborn from Michigan Works gave a great presentation at our
January “Lunch & Learn”. We have some great guest speakers set-up for the future. We hope to see lots of folks at these events in the up
-coming months. The date for the February “Lunch & Learn” is February 25, 2009.
There are only a couple of weeks left before the 19th Annual Snow Box Derby day will be here. The theme is “Beach Party” and it takes
place February 8th at Old Orchard Park on River Road. The event is sponsored by the Independent Bank of Oscoda, and the Oscoda-
AuSable Chamber of Commerce. The Township of Oscoda offers Old Orchard Park sled hill for our enjoyment in this event. This has
become a favorite winter sport for this time of year and gives us a break from cabin fever. If you need a registration form or information,
you can find them on the website www.oscodachamber.com or call us at (989)739-7322.
Please welcome our newest members to the Chamber of Commerce: Lillar’s Landing Resort, Edward Jones Investments, and Oscoda Area
EMS. We would like to remind all businesses and new members of our new website, open and waiting to be filled with your information.
The web page is there to help you advertise anything that may bring your business sales or just to list your website. It has proven very
helpful for everything from discount coupons and sales ads for many of our listed businesses. If you need help to access or use this page,
please feel free to call the Chamber and we will be glad to assist you. Our Chamber is also a member of the Michigan Chamber of Com-
merce who provides much information to small and large companies alike. As a member of the Oscoda-AuSable Chamber, you can access
