Freshman Council Application
2011 - 2012 Academic Year
Hey! Thanks for your interest in Freshman Council (FC). Freshman Council is
designed to introduce first year students not only to their student government
but to the opportunities for involvement on the rest of campus. The Associated
Students of the University of Utah or ASUU is the student government established
on campus. It contains three branches. The Executive Branch is run by the
Student Body President, Student Body Vice President and Senior Class President.
The Legislative branch contains the Senate and Assembly. The Judicial Branch
houses the Supreme Court. The Executive Branch of ASUU is composed of 15
boards, each with their own directors, pertaining to different interests on
campus.
Freshman Council is one of the boards on ASUU. It serves as an
opportunity for students to build leadership skills, meet different people including
administrators, and more importantly to be involved on campus. Freshman
Council will collaborate with other boards in ASUU but most of its projects will be
focused on the incoming freshman class and their needs. Examples of projects:
Volunteer for the Redfest Concert, Crimson Night’s Haunted Alley, Homecoming,
and Rock the U as well as other various fundraisers. As a new year begins, new
ideas are formed and new projects are created.
Freshman Council members come from all walks of life but some things
they must have in common. FC members must be dedicated and willing to work
with one another. They must be creative and passionate about what they do on
the board. Members must know how to lead and follow.
To apply for ASUU Freshman Council, please return this to the ASUU Office
(234 Union) or e-mail it to either Marjoris Regus, mregus@asuu.utah.edu or Sarah
Hammer, shammer@asuu.utah.edu no later than 5:00pm on Friday, September
2, 2011. When you turn it in, make sure you sign up for one of the interviews times
on September 3th, 5th, 6th, or 7th. Notifications on positions will be sent via email
by Tuesday, September 13th. Those who are selected will need to keep the
dates of September 23rd and 24th open for an overnight Freshman Council
retreat.
