To the Butler University Community,
“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Toys in ev’ry store . . . .” What an exciting time of
year, especially for children. Kids of all ages are no doubt eagerly anticipating the giving and
receiving of gifts. But for many families the exchanging of gifts is a wish that doesn’t come true.
Each year WISH-TV8 and The Salvation Army join together to collect toys for Central Indiana
families in need through the WISHTree and Angel Tree programs. These toys are distributed to
pre-selected parents during The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Toy Shop. Last year, 835
families had their Holiday wish come true through the Toy Shop.
For the past 3 years, my 7 year old daughter and I have had the privilege of volunteering at the
Toy Shop. We have also helped to collect toys prior to the event. This has had a profound and
lasting impact on both of us. It is an amazing experience to see the joy on the parents’ faces as
they realize they will be able to give their children gifts for the holidays.
Now you can get involved, too. Butler University Staff Assembly is sponsoring a Salvation
Army Angel Tree toy drive on campus. If you missed getting a tag, you can still participate!
Just purchase a toy for a girl or boy ages 0-12 or a $20 gift card from Walmart, Target, Kohl’s,
Best Buy or Meijer. Then place your new, unwrapped donation in one of the collection boxes
located in Atherton, Jordan Hall 54 (Business Office – Accounts Payable) or outside the Mail
Center, Robertson Hall Office of Admission or Holcomb basement in Campus Impressions. The
final day for this collection will be Friday, December 10th at 10am.
If you want to find out more about how to volunteer for this year’s Christmas Toy Shop, please
contact The Salvation Army’s Volunteer Coordinator, Elizabeth Wilhelm, at 317-224-1010.
Thank you so much for your help and generosity.
