• New install script for local installation of Unix clients: omnisetup.sh
• Applies only for non HP-UX 11.x and non Solaris Unix clients
• omnisetup.sh [-source directory] [-server name]

If not specified, current directory is taken.
- name is an optional name of the cell server host.
- component-list is a comma-separated list of component codes.
No spaces are allowed, and core and
core-integ components need not to be specified.

• Only ksh shell is supported

Limitations / drawbacks

• No Japanese, German and French localization
Migration aspects
• No license migration required ! Only support contract migration
• IDB structure unchanged, but new Velocis DB version
• Direct upgrade is possible for:
- OB II A.03.51 -> Data Protector A.05.00
- OB II A.04.00 -> Data Protector A.05.00
- OB II A.04.10 -> Data Protector A.05.00
• Upgrade from other Omniback II versions:
- first upgrade to OB II 4.x required
- OBII 3.x -> OBII 4.x -> DP 5.0 (possible, but not
recommended)
- direct upgrade from OBII 3.x -> DP 5.10 planed with DP
5.10
Upgrade considerations
Requirements to consider:
• CM, IS and clients must have same version installed (DP 5.0)
• In MoM environment all CM must have same version installed (DP 5.0)
• Licenses of OB II A.03.x and 4.x still valid in DP 5.0
no license migration needed
• Important: upgrade procedures are different on HP-UX, Solaris and
Windows platform
- on HP-UX and Solaris: first remove old, then install new binaries
IDB and configuration data will not be removed
- on Windows do NOT remove/uninstall old binaries !
otherwise IDB and configuration data will be removed
• Upgrade order: 1. Upgrade cell manager and all installation servers
2. Upgrade all clients, can be done gradually
3. MA / Integration Agents must be upgraded before
start of any backup / restore
Upgrade scenarios (1)
Upgrade from OBII A.04.x => DP A.05.00
• Standard upgrade procedure applies
• Upgrade consist of conversion to new Velocis DB version (2.0 -> 3.5)
• IDB data files will not be modified
• IDB upgrade started automatically after installation,
no user interaction required
• SW install and remove utility is swremove / swinstall on HP-UX and
MSI on Windows
• IDB upgrade very fast
• Upgrade status reported in upgrade.log file
Upgrade scenarios (2)
Upgrade OBII 4.x CM on HP-UX 10.20 => DP 5.0 on HP-UX 11.x
• DP 5.0 does NOT support CM and GUI on HP-UX 10.20
• Upgrade procedure needs to incorporate upgrade of HP-UX to 11.x
• Order of upgrade steps very important:
1. Remove OBII 4.x binaries from HP-UX 10.20 CM (swremove)
2. Keep IDB and configuration data untouched
3. Upgrade system OS to HP-UX 11.x
4. Install DP 5.0 binaries (using swinstall)
5. Installation process automatically upgrades IDB

This upgrade wizard offers three options to proceed:
• Upgrade detail part of IDB
• Postpone the detail upgrade
• Skip the upgrade and finish installation
