                          OVERVIEW
TEXAS ONLINE NURSING ACADEMIC COMPLETION PROGRAMS

As an alternative way to obtain a traditional nursing degree, many higher education
institutions are offering programs that, with the exception of the clinical experience, can
be completed solely online. An online degree takes nursing education to a different level.
While still allowing students to interact with faculty and fellow students, it lends itself to
a greater degree of autonomy and flexibility in the scheduling of individual learning
experiences. Students are able to conduct both classroom and clinical experiences within
their own communities and at the same time avoid travel and on campus class attendance.

This work is a large benefit especially since many of today’s student’s are entering the
nursing profession later in life. These academic education courses are accessible and can
be completed via computer at work or at home or when traveling, whenever it is most
convenient for the student.

Benefits of Getting a Nursing Degree Online

Customized Learning Experiences – At Individual Pace

Clinical Experience Within Your Own Community

Greater Level of Independence and Flexibility

       Combining Computer Technology into Nursing

These are great examples of how online nursing degrees can benefit development of the
healthcare workforce. By offering online degrees that allow mobility in nursing education
and a wide array of practice opportunities within various communities, it can help people
balance the demands of school with those at home and work.

As innovative, credible and convenient as these programs may be, many people are still
not fully aware of their options as far as eLearning is concerned. Realizing how difficult
it is for working nurses to attend traditional campus-based programs, promotion of these
online nursing programs is imperative – especially if we want our healthcare workforce
to continue to grow and develop. Many universities and health-related academic
institutions alike are in the process of evolving their nursing programs and moving
towards online completion degrees.

The remainder of this document provides a list of online nursing academic completion
programs and their respective web addresses that are offered throughout the state of
Texas. This list is offered based on information we were able to gather. This is a working
