ALPHABET POEM
Teaching points: Order of letters in the alphabet
Parts of speech, phrases, or sentence structure
Dictionary usage/Wordle
The simplest of all poetic forms, the alphabet poem can be made as sophisticated as needed to match the linguistic
competence of your students. Letter order is the foundation for work in vocabulary, phrasing, and sentence structure. Writing
alphabet poems presents a good opportunity for focused use of the dictionary and the thesaurus. The steps are simple, there
is no rhyme, and there are no hard fast rules to follow in the layout of your poem. Unlike the most common idea of poems,
your lines do not need to rhyme, it does not have to be about your feelings, it just all has to relate to one simple topic.
Task: Write an alphabet poem about process writing using the words phrases
you associate with process writing.
