Faculty/Counselor Application --Requirements
West Virginia Governor’s Honors Academy 2008
Over-Arching Theme for GHA 2008 is “Explore the Possibilities.”
Complete the Faculty/Counselor application and add the two names and letters of reference. In
addition, applicants for Faculty/Counselor at the Governor’s Honors Academy must submit course
descriptions, a statement of your educational philosophy, and a list of innovative teaching projects.
Each Faculty member at Governor’s Honors Academy teachers two courses a day with no more than
fifteen students in each course. The two courses are 1) an Intensive Course that addresses a
Governor’s Honors Academy student’s greatest academic strength and interest and 2) a Broad- Based
Course that is intended to expand a student’s knowledge base in areas that are not necessarily viewed
as the individual’s strengths. Both courses should include a multidisciplinary approach to instruction as
well as a brief discussion of how the Academy’s theme would be addressed. Faculty members selected
for employment will create a pre/post test for research purposes.
The application includes a course proposal for the Intensive Course and a course proposal for the
Broad-Based Course. Course proposals shall include

A brief statement of how you might work the theme , “Explore the Possibilities,” into your courses.
A brief description (blurb) that would be used to sell your course to students. Samples can be found on
the website.
References
Submit two (2) letters of reference with the application form. These letters should include name,
title/position, address and phone number of the individual providing the reference.
Suggested Reference Sources:
Your current or previous immediate supervisor
Individual who is familiar with your work
Personal reference.
Faculty salary is $4,000. Meals and lodging are provided. Most of the teachers will live in the residence
hall. All faculty, however are expected to participate with students from breakfast through the night-
time activity.
Completed applications are to be postmarked by November 21, 2007. Faculty interviews will be held
December 7 & 8. Location not yet determined. Please submit to
