The January meeting of the Sun Coast Chapter of the U.S. Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officers Association was
held at Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater Florida in the dining facility on Monday January 21, 2008.
The following members and guests attended:
Knut and Akemi Berland Art Cushing David and Pat Daniels
Ben Hogan Sue Krisher Bill and Carol Reetz
Fred and Mary Siegel John Trombitas
After our usual covered dish meal we held our 50/50 raffle won tonight by Art Cushing a grand prize of $11.00.
Starting the 2008 Christmas party fund at $16.00 (half of the prize money plus a donation of $5 from Art).
The meeting was called to order by President Bill Reetz at 7:55 PM who started out the meeting with the pledge
of allegiance followed by a moment of silence for our shipmates who have passed over the bar.
There being no minutes from the last meeting to approve it was approved to file the newsletter as published.
The Treasurer reported we have a current balance of $1,045.55.
A general discussion of current events with the Association was held (basically a rehash of Bill’s visit to
Washington DC the beginning of December as reported in the last newsletter). There was no old business and
the only new business was a motion to purchase the wreath (approximately $85.00) for the CGC Blackthorn
memorial ceremony, moved by Fred Siegel and Seconded by John Trombitas. The vote was unanimous in
favor of the purchase.
The ceremony will be on Monday January 28th at 11:00 AM at Blackthorn Park (North End Sunshine Skyway
Rest Area I 275).

Jury Duty Scam --
This has been verified by the FBI. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take
those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous
kind of fraud has surfaced.
The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the
scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and
cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen.
The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma , Illinois , and Colorado . This (swindle) is
particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving
information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued
nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.
This Months Joke:
After many years of marriage, a couple was lying in bed one evening, when the misses felt her husband begin to
fondle her in ways he hadn't in quite some time. It almost tickled as his fingers started at her neck, and then
began moving down past the small of her back. He then caressed her shoulders and neck, slowly worked his
hand down over her breasts, stopping just over her lower stomach. He then proceeded to place his hand on her
left inner arm, caressed past the side of her breast again, working down her side, passed gently over her buttock
and down her leg to her calf. Then, he proceeded up her inner thigh, stopping just at the uppermost portion of
her leg. He continued in the same manner on her right side, then suddenly stopped, rolled over and became
As she had become quite aroused by this caressing, she asked in a loving voice, "Honey, that was wonderful.
Why did you stop?"
“I found the remote," he mumbled.
