2012 Summer Camps
Sylvan is excited about this unique way for students to discover that learning feels good! Our
summer camps are designed to provide students with a concentrated learning experience in
a fun, exciting environment. There is a maximum of 6 students per camp.

Refer a friend who enrolls and receive another $50 off!
Work on improving your penmanship, either printing or cursive! Participate in a fun, hands-on
approach for correct letter formation and to develop good writing skills. Improving penmanship
has a positive carry over for all subjects. Open to students entering 1st – 6th grades.

Early Writing Skills
Put your early writing skills to work! Learn to write a descriptive paragraph. Due to the higher
writing standards in the lower grades, students will practice basic writing skills, ranging from
proper sentence structure to topic sentences and conclusions. Emphasis will be on using
sensory details to expand and develop paragraph content. Open to students entering 1st & 2nd
July 9 – July 20 (Monday - Friday) 9:00 – 11:00 -- $495
Take your writing skills to the next level! Students will be engaged in different roles as authors,
using a fun approach while practicing and improving writing skills and learning enriching writing
techniques. Write descriptive, informative and persuasive pieces. Write as a newspaper
reporter, advertiser, movie critic and more. Create and illustrate stories. Open to students
entering 3rd - 6th grades.
July 9 – July 20 (Monday - Friday) 1:30 – 3:30 -- $495
Literary response rocks!
Read and respond to stories using critical thinking skills. Analyze theme, characters, setting and
more. Students will explain their answers and show understanding thorough the use of
examples as well as referring to the text.

More 2012 Summer Camps
A fun approach to improve fraction skills and develop confidence working with fractions. Skills
include finding equivalent fractions through adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
fractions and mixed numbers. Whether first learning these skills or reviewing and practicing for
mastery, students will develop a strong understanding that will give them a solid foundation for
Algebra success. Open to students entering 5th – 8th grades.
July 23 – July 27, 1:30 – 3:30 -- $295
Let us shed light on the process of problem solving so that word problems become less
intimidating and students become analytical thinkers and problem-solvers. Learn to use a
variety of problem-solving strategies like guess and test and logical reasoning as well as
strategies for specific skills like writing and solving equations and working with money. Students
will explore many options to solve math problems and discuss their tactics with the group. Open
to students entering 4th – 7th grades.
July 30 – August 3, 9:00 – 11:00 -- $295
Math fact fun!
Get your math muscles in shape as we practice addition and subtraction or multiplication and
division math facts. The camp will help develop speed, accuracy and retention, while teaching
practical applications of basic math operations. Have fun and become more independent in
practicing math facts! Open to students entering 1st - 5th grades.
