K-12 District Reading Goal: Targeted Area for Growth—Reading Comprehension

Reading Goal Statement: During the 2008-09 school year, the percentage of students with proficient reading
comprehension skills in each of the targeted cohort groups (refer to Table 1.0) will increase from fall 2007 to
fall 2009 as measured by the ITBS/ITED Reading Comprehension Test.


K-12 District Math Goal: Targeted Area for Growth—Math Concepts, Estimation, and
Problem Solving

Mathematics Goal Statement: During the 2008-09 school year, the percentage of students with proficient
math skills in each of the targeted cohort groups (refer to Table 2.0) will increase from fall 2007 to fall 2009 as
measured by the ITBS/ITED Math Concepts, Estimation, and Problem Solving Sub-tests.


K-12 District Science Goal: Targeted Area for Growth—Physical, Earth, Life Content
Knowledge and Inquiry Skills

Science Goal Statement: During the 2008-09 school year, the percentage of students with proficient science
skills in each of the targeted cohort groups (refer to Table 3.0) will increase from fall 2007 to fall 2009 as
measured by the ITBS/ITED Science Test.



K-12 District Technology Goal:
Part I: Measurable Component: During the 2008-09 school year, the percentage of 8th grade students with
proficient technology skills will increase from the 2-year average of 89% as measured by the district developed
8th Grade Technology Standards Assessment tool.

Part II: Process Component: During the 2008-09 school year additional W-SR technology standards-based
assessments will be developed and administrated at grades 3, 5, and one high school grade. Baseline data
showing percentage of students at targeted grades with proficient skills will be collected for use in determining
growth goals during the subsequent school year.

                                2008-09 Waverly-Shell Rock Board Goals

1.   Address facility needs by utilizing recommendations from the community, staff, Facility
     Task Force, McREL, and the administrative team.

2.   Based on changing needs, continue to explore options for the re-distribution of special
     education students in order to balance enrollment at attendance centers.

3.   Monitor and evaluate the pre-school implemented at the Shell Rock Elementary School.

4.   Explore methods of increased protection for students, staff, and facilities during disasters.
     (Hazard Mitigation)

5.   Continue to use the superintendent evaluation and board self-evaluation process developed by the
     Iowa Association of School Boards, the Iowa Department of Education, and School
     Administrators of Iowa.

6.   Increase attendance at board of education professional development opportunities.

7.   Continue to monitor and evaluate the district’s progress toward increased character education curriculum
     by using building level presentations at monthly board meetings.
