					Not For Sale!
      1 Kings 21:1-4
          1 Kings 21:1-4
“Now Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard in Jezreel,
beside the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. And after
this Ahab said to Naboth, ‘Give me your vineyard, that I
may have it for a vegetable garden, because it is near my
house, and I will give you a better vineyard for it; or, if
it seems good to you, I will give you its value in money.’
But Naboth said to Ahab, ‘The Lord forbid that I should
give you the inheritance of my fathers.’ And Ahab went
into his house vexed and sullen because of what Naboth
the Jezreelite had said to him, for he had said, ‘I will
not give you the inheritance of my fathers.’ And he lay
down on his bed and turned away his face and would eat
no food.”

• For Naboth, his vineyard meant something.
• It meant more to him than another, even
    better vineyard.
• Cold, hard cash couldn’t even move it!
• This man took pride in and truly valued
    what really belonged to him.
• What does the name of Christ mean to you?
• For Daniel DeGarmo – It’s not for sale!

• Some Christians are quick to wash away
the blood that washed away their sins!
• Is it because they truly don’t see the value
of that which paid their debt of sin?
• Or because they lack the conviction
necessary in living as a follower of Jesus?
• In this lesson let us look at some things
that Christians are not to sell…
              1. The Truth
• Proverbs 23:23
    • “Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom,
        instruction, and understanding.”
• John 17:17
    • “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is
• What does the word of God mean to you?
• The Bible is not just interesting historical
literature – it is the words of our Creator!
               1. The Truth
• How might we “sell it?”
     • By perverting it – Galatians 1:6-9
     • By cutting portions out – Jeremiah 36:23
     • By not reading it – Colossians 4:16
     • By hearing and not doing – James 1:22
• Let us work diligently to make the reading
of God’s word an active part of our lives.
• When it comes to the word of God – it’s
not for sale - It’s just too valuable to sell!
          2. Our Birthright
• Genesis 25:30-34
    • “And Esau said to Jacob, ‘Let me eat some of
that red stew, for I am exhausted!’…Jacob
said, ‘Sell me your birthright now.’ Esau said,
‘I am about to die; of what use is a birthright
to me?’ Jacob said, ‘Swear to me now.’ So he
swore to him and sold his birthright to
        Jacob…Thus Esau despised his birthright.”
• In the heat of the moment Esau gave up
his inheritance for a moment of pleasure.
          2. Our Birthright
• How might we ‘sell our birthright’ as we
are caught up in a moment of passion?
    • Sexual Immorality – Hebrews 12:15-17
    • Dishonest Profit – Job 31:5-6
• We have been adopted into God’s family
while receiving a great inheritance and it’s
    not for sale!
• 1 Peter 1:3-5
    • “to an inheritance that is imperishable…”
         3. Our Reputation
• Proverbs 22:1
    • “A good name is to be chosen rather than
great riches, and favor is better than silver
        or gold.”
• Ecclesiastes 7:1
    • “A good name is better than precious
ointment, and the day of death than the day
        of birth.”
• How important is your reputation to you?
         3. Our Reputation
• The world can be very unforgiving.
• A good reputation can be destroyed in one
    poor decision.
• And then it takes years to build back up.
• Take your name (reputation) seriously.
• It is not for sale!
• Romans 12:17
    • “Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought
to do what is honorable in the sight of all.”
            4. Our Brother
• Joseph - Acts 7:9 (Genesis 37:12-28)
    • “And the patriarchs, jealous of Joseph, sold
him into Egypt; but God was with him…”
• Judas – Matthew 26:14-16,47-50
    • “Then one of the twelve, whose name was
Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and
said, ‘What will you give me if I deliver him
over to you?’ And they paid him thirty pieces
of silver. And from that moment he sought an
        opportunity to betray him.”
            4. Our Brother
• What an awful feeling to be betrayed by
your own brother (physical or spiritual).
• We belong to a brotherhood – bound by
    the blood of Jesus Christ.
• Unfortunately, that trust is broken.
• Romans 12:10
    • “Love one another with brotherly affection.
Outdo one another in showing honor.”
• My relationship with you is not for sale!
          5. Our Salvation
• What is your soul’s salvation worth to you?
• Would you sell it for wealth? Prestige?
    Power? Physical health? Stubbornness?
• Nothing is worth the price of your soul!
• Mark 8:36-38
    • “For what does it profit a man to gain the
whole world and forfeit his life? For what
can a man give in return for his life? For
whoever is ashamed of me and of my words…”
