What are Facebook Fan Pages?
Why Facebook fan pages? The answer is simple Facebook has the highest traffic
of any site on the Internet. It has surpassed Google in traffic and there are more
people who spend more time on Facebook than anywhere else. Your
grandmother is probably on Facebook. It’s been said that people growing up
today , will tend to think of Facebook as the entire Internet as they have used
This creates a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Internet marketers. Now is the
time to build your presence on this new Internet. By building up a large base of
fan pages and fans you're staking your claim to possible years of future traffic and
revenues. We have all seen sites on Google that are ranking on the first page for
highly valuable search terms, that got these rankings by being one of the first
sites on the topic. We have that opportunity now with Facebook fan pages, very
few marketers are taking advantage of using fan pages and there are tons of
topics that have rabid fans that are just waiting to get together on your page.
We will teach you to monetize these pages in a variety of different ways. From
beginner to more advanced, it will all be covered. You'll finish this training with
all the tools you need to start your first fan page and have your first sales right
away. This is one of the great features of Facebook fan pages. You get
immediate traffic, and immediate sales and immediate profits. Many of us have
used different marketing methods including SEO article marketing, videos etc.
It all takes time and you often don't know if you will have good results for weeks
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 5
or even months after you start the project. With a Facebook fan page you know
immediately if your idea will be a winner. And we will teach you how to find
winners right away.
This method uses Facebook ads to drive traffic to your fan pages. When
someone likes your page you then have the opportunity to market to that person
over and over as long as they don't unlike your page. We will teach you how to
use the ad system to get super cheap fans 1/2 to 1 cent each. This is an awesome
value and it is almost impossible not to make money when you're getting targeted
traffic this cheap. If you are worried about paying for Facebook ads you should
remember that there is no free traffic, every method to drive traffic to a
webpage or an offer involves some type of payment for traffic or tons of work.
And time is money.
We will teach you the testing system that we use every day that can take as little
as $2-$3 to test per fan page. It takes only a few moments to build a fan page, so
you can easily test and build 10 to 15 fan pages in a weekend. That is how you
find winners, testing, testing and more testing. The great thing about
this method is the testing is fast and easy and you know if you have that winner
right away, not six months down the line when you finally get some SEO traffic
from Google on your website and realize that niche or idea that seemed so good
3-6 months ago is not profitable at all.
Facebook has tons of traffic that can flood to your page so fast it will make you
dizzy. Because of the constant traffic you can make sales right away and can
have great interaction with real people. Using this method and building fan
pages for profit is not only going to make you money is actually quite fun, like a
game. There are so many methods in Internet marketing where you never really
see or interact with your customers. Fan pages are different; it is not uncommon
for us to make a post and have that post have hundreds of likes and comments
within a few minutes. Now that's interaction! Those interactions are going to
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 6
make you consistent profits over time. You build a highly interactive fan page
with loyal followers who will jump at your offers and pump profits into your
We will teach you in this course everything we know about making profitable fan
pages. You will learn from some of our mistakes and save yourself a lot of the
hassle that we went through when we started out. I truly believe this fan page
system is the absolute best Internet marketing method for new marketers, or
even experienced ones. The great thing about this method as a new marketer is
you will absolutely have customers to hone your skills on. That is what it's all
about in this business, getting interaction, making connections and leading the
customer to a conversion. You will learn all of those skills much faster having
thousands of real people to market to on a daily basis.
I'm getting excited talking about it and thinking of shutting off this course to go
build some new fan pages. Instead I will continue on and we will go right into
the meat of the material and get you up and running as fast as possible.
We will also have a video supplement to this course that will make everything
visual and should really help you understand some of the details of putting all
this together. Again we are very excited so let's get started.

Chapter 2: How to Pick a Niche
Selecting a niche for your Facebook fan page is the foundation to building a
successful page. This is where your creativity and imagination come into play.
We'll give you some basic guidelines and methods to selecting a niche. The fun
thing is it is completely up to you and your interest and experience to find
something that not only has rabid fans, but is interesting to you and something
that you can see yourself working with for months or years to come.
The first thing I think about what I am looking for a topic for Facebook fan page
is I think of the simple business principles: supply and demand. I want to
find a topic that has more demand than supply; it is as simple as that. There are
a couple of different ways to go about this, we can look for current trends, things
that are getting really popular that don't yet have a huge presence on Facebook or
we can look for things that are older but still popular with many people, this is
more of the nostalgia route. The great thing about Facebook is we will be able to
do both and target any kind of new trend that comes up as well as mine the past
for things that may have been popular 20 years ago and still have a loyal
following but are found nowhere on Facebook to get together and discuss.
The reason we start at supply and demand is that Facebook rewards its
advertisers who have a high CTR (click through rate). The way to get a high CTR
is to have an advertisement about a topic that people are hungry to talk about.
Facebook is a social medium and is unlike Google where people are searching for
a topic. People on Facebook are usually there because they are bored and killing
time and are more than willing to click on buttons join pages and bounce around
your advertisements and offers. So we want to make their Facebook fan pages
on topics that are fun and recreational. I have had absolutely no success using
this method to build commercial business type fan pages. That is not what this
course is about, with Facebook we want to find fun topics that people are really
interested in and then sell them offers related to that topic.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 8
It is really very simple.
A few examples of good areas to look for a niche are things like movies, television
shows, celebrities, sports teams etc. Really anything that you can think of that is
fun and people would enjoy talking or reading about as they kill time on
Facebook. With Facebook's advertising system you can target exact interests,
exact locations, exact age groups and with this powerful targeting find exactly the
people who would be interested in your topic. That is how you build Facebook
fan pages with thousands of fans that you can market to for a lifetime at a very
cheap cost. You are able to achieve a high CTR click through rate by simply
showing your ad to people who are very interested and hungry to talk about a
topic where the person really wants to interact with the topic (demand) but isn't
already involved with that topic on Facebook (supply). Some topics have such
high demand that there are multiple successful fan pages on that same topic.
THIS HAPPENS OVER AND OVER
We have both experienced this, having successful pages on very popular topics,
the great thing about this angle is that because the topic is so popular you tend to
get viral traffic from friends of your fans who see them posting and talking about
the topic. Some examples of high demand topics that come to mind recently
from our pages are reality TV shows and recent murder trials. These are
examples of high demand pages but also have tons of other pages on Facebook
and we were still able to be successful. In fact, by researching other pages on
these topics we sometimes find they are not monetizing the fan page at all. In
this course you will learn our strategies for making your pages more interactive
and more fun than the other pages users may be involved with. With our
techniques they will spend more time at your page and ultimately more money in
commission for you.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 9
I've also had success with fan pages that had a very small demand that have
almost zero supply. These are topics like obscure authors or TV shows that may
only have 5 to 10,000 people out of the millions on Facebook that are interested
in these topics, however because there is nothing on Facebook about this topic at
all when they see our ad they are hungry to click through interact with the page
and ultimately make purchases and complete offers earning us commissions.
You WILL have many failures as you are testing fan pages. These failures come
because you have either too much supply and not enough demand or the
opposite. Sometimes it is a matter of just mediocre supply and mediocre
demand and something that you thought people were passionate about but are
not. These are the pages that you have to put to rest early before spending too
much time and money. We will teach you exactly how to do this.
There are a few sites you can use to find trending topics that may be interesting
for your fan pages, Google trends is one of the major sites that I use let's take a
Ok, let's take a look at the trends for today and see what we can come up with for
some ideas that we can use for a page. First of all the top trend is Powerball
numbers, I don't see how we could use this for a Facebook page. The second
most popular topic of the day is the PGA championship; this could definitely be
something we could investigate as this meets the criteria of having tons of
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 10
demand. We could go further and check out popular golfers and possibly build a
fan page around that. The one thing that I would be concerned about with the
PGA championship is that it is mainly a man's sport. Something we have
both found in building our pages is that all things being equal it is
better to target women's topics as they are much more social on
Facebook than men in general. This is not a hard and fast rule just
something to keep in mind.
The next two items are again both about the lottery with the fifth most popular
trend of the day being the Statue of Liberty. That is not something I would think
of as a fan page but then again there may be an opportunity, I am sure there are
history buffs out there that are very interested in the Statue of Liberty and we
would have opportunities to sell them memorabilia and T -shirts etc. revolving
around the Statue of Liberty. We may want to put that into the back of our mind
as an idea for a fan page. Remember it only takes a few moments to put together
a page and two or three dollars to test so don't be afraid to try some crazy ideas.
Some of my most successful pages were based on things that I initially thought
were silly and would not work. If we haven't said it enough.... TEST!!!
The sixth most popular trend of the day is Steve Smith, a wide receiver for the
Philadelphia Eagles and has been traded, this is one of the top sports stories of
the day. There is certainly an opportunity to do a fan page for sports stars and
Steve Smith is hot so you could easily build a page -Steve Smith Fans- targeting
people that like Philadelphia Eagles that live in Philadelphia or New York Giants
fans which is the team that he was traded from. You could easily monetize this
page by selling physical products like jerseys and memorabilia as well as running
opinion polls about the Steve Smith trade. Maybe you bash the trade and use the
strong emotion that these fans have, to run an opinion poll to promote CPA
offers. We will teach you all that as we go.
Next on the list is Rebecca Black- Friday, Rebecca Black is a good example of a
high demand high supply topic. This is the girl from the silly video that went viral
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 11
and is quite popular all over the Internet right now, I'm not really sure what’s
going on with her now but people seem to be interested. You could definitely test
a Rebecca Black fan page and once again monetize it with T-shirts, CDs, and
opinion polls about Rebecca Black etc. So there is another idea to test.
The next thing on the list is George Lopez it was just announced that his TV show
was canceled yesterday and this is something else that could be a great fan page.
I am guessing George Lopez has many loyal followers who will be passionate to
talk about their favorite talk show host being canceled. This would be a great
time to test a George Lopez fan page with the idea of monetizing it as we talked
about earlier DVDs, CDs T-shirt's opinion polls etc.
One thing that I don't think that would work that I see further down the list is
something like the Blackberry 9900. Believe me when I tell you I have tested
these kinds of things over and over and have yet to make one of them successful.
My thinking was I would build a fan page about a product and then sell that
product, simple right. Well save yourself some time and learn from my
experience that when people are on Facebook socializing and having fun they are
not really that interested in shopping mode, being hit with what is obviously an
advertisement disguised as a fan page. I'm sure there are some exceptions and
maybe this Blackberry 9900 is so popular it is interesting enough that people
would want to join a page and talk about it. My experience says this idea is a
failure, so test it if you like but be warned.
Another trend further down on this list I thought I would is the topic "Queen".
The problem with something like this is that it is not specific. Are they talking
about the band Queen or are they talking about the Queen of England or maybe
something else? This is a problem because when you go to do your precise
targeting on your Facebook ads that you need to have a successful page with a
high click through rate something vague that could have many meanings makes it
more difficult to get the right targeting. For example if you made a page on the
topic queen the band you will be advertising to people that like the Queen of
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 12
England or maybe drag queens or who knows what. So keep in mind when
you're selecting your topics that the description of the topic or title of the topic
itself is not something that has many dual meanings and popularity's.
Next on the list I saw the topic "Bolton Wanderers". I have no idea what that is
so let's look it up. Okay the Bolton wanderers are a UK Premier league soccer
team. This is definitely a topic that could make a good fan page. You have to
keep in mind that your page would be UK centric and therefore your offers and
products would have to be something that you could sell to folks in the UK.
Personally I have stuck with USA-based fan pages but I understand that there is a
great opportunity in international pages on Facebook. Personally I have not
done them yet because I feel I have not run out of ideas in the USA and I probably
understand the market better being is that is my home. This is not to say you
should not test fan pages in foreign markets as there are many opportunities for
even cheaper traffic international.
So just looking over this list we have the following ideas that we could test for a
fan page. PGA championship fans, Statue of Liberty fans, Steve Smith fans,
Rebecca Black fans, George Lopez fans, and also the for the UK; Bolton
Wanderers fans. From these ideas there are also sub ideas such as popular
golfers on the PGA championship. For the Statue of Liberty you could think about
different parks and national monuments that may have a fan base. With Steve
Smith you could find other Philadelphia Eagles or New York Giants that may be
popular that we could build a fan page around. Thinking about Rebecca Black,
check around the Internet for other popular viral singers or YouTube stars and
make fan pages around that. These topics are not the only fan pages you can
create, they are here to get your imagination and creativity flowing and come up
with topics similar to these and test, test, test.
Have we told you to TEST pages yet?
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 13
Going over Google trends is just one way to find ideas for fan pages. Facebook
fan page topics are all around you, think of some of your favorite TV shows,
movies, sports teams, authors, hobbies etc. Another thing I do is ask around to
friends and family members of different ages and demographics. I've gotten some
really great fan page ideas for my mom, things that she likes that were popular for
people in her age group that I would've never thought of or found through web
research. I know Browie got one of his most successful fan page ideas from his
wife and he sat on it for 2 days because he thought it wouldn’t work. Good thing
he decided to test it out. When you find an idea from someone you have an easy
way to target people on Facebook, for example I just plugged in my mom's age
and of course that she was female and her idea and Boom instant targeted
This brings up another important idea about targeting fan pages and
demographics. We have found that younger folks tend to 'like' more
things on Facebook. They are more conditioned to click the like button and
sometimes have lists and lists of things that they like. The problem with this is
when someone has a 100 different likes or topics on their Facebook account; they
are most likely not passionate about most of these. We have found that older
folks are much less likely to click “like” on every passing fad or celebrity, they are
older and the things that they are truly interested in is more established. So when
someone who is 45 says that they like the Statue of Liberty or George Lopez we
can be sure to a much larger degree that this is something that they are pretty
passionate about and will be much more likely to click on our ad.
So in summary, we can use Google trends and our imagination to come up with
tons of popular topics for Facebook fan pages. We ca n talk to friends and family
as well as use our own experience to come up with ideas for fan page topics. We
want to focus our topics on fun things, recreational things, things that are social
that would be interesting for Facebook user to like and join and interact with the
page. We don't want to do commercial or product type pages as people are just
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 14
not that passionate about these things as they are not social. Facebook is social
and we need to keep that in mind at every step of the process.
With all these things in mind you may want to try the following exercise. Open
up a blank document on your computer or grab a notepad and just off the top of
your head write out 15 or 20 ideas for fan pages based on the things we've talked
about here in this chapter. This is exactly the process I use, with ideas for new
fan pages. When you have your list of ideas it is time to start testing. We will
show you how to quickly build out your pages with enough content to run a quick
test separate the losers from the winners and then maximize and push the
winning campaigns while cutting the losers right away. So take a break and write
out 15 or 20 ideas and then join us in the next chapter we'll start talking about the
nuts and bolts of testing our fan pages on Facebook.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 15
Chapter 3: Using Facebook Ads & GIMP
The next thing we need to do is set up a Facebook advertising account and start
testing some fan pages. At this point many people have asked the question
should I use my real name Facebook account to do these fan pages. Our advice is
an unequivocal, yes. The reason is very simple; it is against the terms and
conditions of Facebook to open up separate accounts to use for advertising. We
feel it is a really bad idea to open up a separate account to manage your fan pages
and advertise. You are looking to build a long-term business and you do not
want to build a business on a shaky foundation of a phony name that could be
shut down by Facebook for violation of terms of service. It is not impossible with
this method to get to hundreds of thousands of fans that are really quite valuable.
It would be absolutely silly to risk all that by using a separate account.
The reason folks have suggested that they use a separate account is that t hey
don't want their real-life friends and family to see what they are doing. This is
completely understandable and we will show you when you're setting up your
pages the step you have to undertake to make sure that your new fan pages are
not displayed on your wall and also to make sure you did not invite all your
friends and family to join your page if you would rather keep things private. If
you set this up in this way there is no way that anyone you know that is a real-life
friend or family would know about your fan page business unless you wanted to.
The other reason folks have considered using a fake Facebook name and
advertising account is that they are scared that Facebook will ban them for having
either too many pages or violating advertising terms and conditions etc. In our
research into Facebook's operating we have found the following. Facebook is not
concerned with how many pages any one person has; it is certainly in their best
interest to provide the best experience for their customers. If you are following
our methods and supplying a page that is in demand you are making Facebook a
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 16
better place for the customers and for Facebook. We will show you in the
monetizing section how to make sure that your promotions and offers are not met
with a barrage of complaints and spam blocks so you will stay on the good side of
the Facebook advertising policy.
Facebook is most of all concerned about their user experience and the way that
you get your account banned and lose your pages is by having many people
complain about them as Spam. If you are doing things the way that we show you
in this program you will not be spamming your Facebook fans but providing
them with good quality content mixed in with occasional offers and promotions.
Facebook has no problem with this, they are a business and I am sure they
understand that no one is going to spend money with their advertising
department if it is not for some kind of commercial purpose. So again our advice
in regards to setting up your Facebook advertising account is most certainly use
your own name and billing details.
So, once you have your Facebook advertising account set up it’s time to start
testing some fan pages. The first thing you want to do is look over that list that
you completed at the end of the first chapter and start building your fan pages.
The way I do this is first of all I look over my list and create a folder on my
desktop with the name of each idea. You may want to put these all into one big
folder and name it fan page ideas or whatever. Your organization is up to you
but I find it easier to go out and get all my pictures in one quick step.
So you have your list of ideas you have folders made for each idea on your
desktop it is now time to build some fan pages in order for you to test them with
Facebook ads. If you're on Facebook and looking at your news feed if you look
over to the left-hand column you will see several tabs, apps, pages. Click on the
tab that says pages and you will bring up another screen with a button that says
create page on the top right. Click on create page and you are ready to go.
It is very important when you're setting up your page to be sure to select the
option for brands or products. Under that subheading be sure to select the
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 17
option website. (More on this in Video 2). It is here that you will enter the
new name of your fan page; I tried to keep the name of my page under 25
characters. If you go over 25 characters the title of your ad which is the same as
your fan page will not show up all the way and be cut off. Be very careful in your
title, Facebook will not allow you to change it once you have 100 likes.
The Title of your Fan Page will be the Title of your AD
It is also important to note that what I am doing any kind of fan page that
involves a movie TV celebrity etc. I'd be sure to use the word fans at the end of
the page name. For example George Lopez fans; we don't want anyone to think
we are impersonating George Lopez. We want to make it clear that our page is
set up for people who are fans of George Lopez. I suppose it doesn't hurt to put a
disclaimer on our page telling fans that we are simply fans ourselves and the art
we are no way representing George Lopez the person.
It is now time to find some content to put on our page. We have those files that
we set up with the names of all our fan page ideas so at this point I would go to
Google typing George Lopez and then click on images and save six or eight
pictures of George Lopez or his show or whatever is related to the page. I would
save them in that folder so I have them handy for posting on the page and making
my ads. All you need to start your fan pages is to have a main picture. Then I
would go to my wall and post three or four pictures so that it fills up displays
across the front of the top and page that acts as the banner for the page. When
this part is done I would also go to YouTube and find a few videos perhaps to cut
and paste from the share link to show on our fan page.
I would also make one initial post myself on the fan page saying something like
welcome to the George Lopez fan page; I started this page to get together with all
the other people on Facebook who are fans of this great performer. Just wanted
to say that I am just a fan and in no way associated with George Lopez, just
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 18
wanted to get together with the other fans like me. You have let people know
who you are and why you made the page and that you are not George Lopez.
Now is the time for Facebook ads. Click on - PROMOTE MY PAGE
1. The first thing we see is the destination. Because we are advertising for
Facebook page the name George Lopez fans is already filled in for us. If we were
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 19
advertising to a website outside of Facebook this is where the URL to that website
would normally go. Below that we see that we are using a Facebook ad and not a
2. Next up is the destination tab it is currently set for default meaning whatever
we set on our page in our preferences as the default landing page for our site that
is where the ad traffic will land. This is fine for now. But once we find our
winning campaigns we will set up a custom landing page in order to start
monetizing our site right away. That will be shown later in this book.
3. Next up is the title of our ad in this case it will simply say George Lopez fans.
When advertising a Facebook page the title to your advertisement is always the
title to the page. This is why we mentioned earlier that we wanted to have our
page title be less than 25 characters. We should also keep this in mind when
deciding the name of our fan page; we want something that works as an ad title
also. Another small tip with your fan page / ad title is to incorporate a "?" mark.
4. The body of our ad comes next. This is the text that will show up to the right
side of our ad and that people will read. We like to keep this very simple, you
will notice on many Facebook ads advertisers fill it with text trying to sell their
product or service right in the ad. By having a short and quick text we are setting
ourselves apart from all the other ads on Facebook and making it very clear and
simple what we want our prospects to do. In this case: Click "Like" if you Love
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 20
Note: at this point it is a good time to talk about something that is pretty
important with how the advertising system works compared to a normal
Facebook ad you are directing to an outside website.
In the case of a Facebook fan page ad it is considered a click if the person viewing
the ad clicks 'like' at the bottom, they will end up liking your page. This is a good
result for us because now that they like our page everything that we post on our
wall about George Lopez including our offers and promotions will appear in that
fans newsfeed on their Facebook page. Many people will click through to our
page right away to interact about the subject but some will only click like,
indicating that they like that topic and want to get the posts added to their
newsfeed. Either way it is a success for us and an added fan to our page.
5. Next up is our picture. I have found that the best picture to use for a fan page
is the most popular and recognizable person associated with that topic. We find a
close-up, smiling face picture of that person, we then highlight it with a red
border. The red border is used to help bring people's eyes to your advertisement
if you look on Facebook you will see that everything color wise is blue and white.
Human beings are trained to notice differences in patterns. By using this red it
creates a difference in patterns and naturally attracts the eye of potential fans. It
is very simple to do this, we will show you that later in a gimp tutorial.
6. Now we'll get into the targeting, the first thing up is where we want our ad to
display. In this case we will use the entire United States. There are many pages
however that you may want target by state or even locally.
7. The next tab Facebook ad screen is demographics.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 21
This is where we can select be each of our prospects that will see our ad as well as
if we want both male and female. In this case we selected an exact match each of
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 22
between 46 and 48 both male and female. The reason we did this is because
George Lopez had over 3 million people that listed him as an interest. This is
generally way too much to use for an ad. (More on this in Video 3). So what
we did is that we narrowed down the grouping so that we got the total amount of
people we were targeting down to around 50,000.
8. Next up we have precise interest. Obviously in this case we're going to go with
the precise interest of George Lopez. Once we enter this interest the total amount
of people that we will be advertising to will pop up on the right, in this case it was
over 3 million. That is way too many and it leads me to believe that this test may
not work out. We want something that has tons of demand which this does
however in this case theremay be way too much supply. There are already 3
million people that have listed George Lopez as a like so it appears that he has a
pretty big presence on Facebook already. We will not give up yet but this is a red
flag to us that we may have something that doesn't meet our criteria and has too
much supply already.
Note: We Have Had successful Pages That Already Had a Large
Following and other Pages already.
9. In the connections tab we want to check only people who are not fans of
George Lopez fans. This simply means that we do will not be targeting to a
prospect once they like our page the first time. This saves us on advertising to
the same people over and over once we have already added them as a fan.
10. The next tab is advanced to demographics in this tab we can select be
interested in and relationship status of our prospects. In this particular example
this doesn't really come into play and I often don't use this tab much for fan
pages. But it is something you can play with. This section could be VERY useful
with the right fan page.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 23
11. Education and work is the next tab that comes up; there many times you will
use this tab in targeting your Facebook fans. Because we will be offering things
for sale it is sometimes to our advantage to target college grads, thinking that the
college grad will have a better income and more money to spend on discretionary
fan items and other offers. It also helps us to break down a demographic if it is
to big, in this case with 3 million fans we could have used college graduate to get
that down to a more manageable number for our system.
12. Campaign and budget. This is the tab where you will name your campaign
and set the daily budget for your test. Normally I will set a budget for three
dollars. In this case I used five dollars because our bid was higher than normal.
It is very important to keep your initial budget very low using this method. The
reason for this is that we will use it using to pay for impressions or CPM method
for paying for ad. We want to set our budget very low in order that the Facebook
ad system has an opportunity to evaluate the popularity of our ad and re-prices
according to a higher click through rate. As you can see in this example the pay
for impressions is priced at $1.59.We never want to pay this much for very long,
by setting our budget very low for the day our impressions will trickle out and we
will be able to lower our costs because the Facebook system will have time to
adjust our bid price based on our higher click through rate. If we do not get this
higher click through rate immediately we have not lost much and will pause our
ad and consider this campaign a failure and move on to the next.
13. Pricing; this is the tab where we set the price that we are willing to bid on our
campaign. This George Lopez campaign is really a strange example because the
max bid is extremely high I am not really sure why that is. Normally your max bid
will be somewhere in the seventy cents to one dollar range. All you need to do is
look at the suggested bid and add five cents to it and that is your bid. It is very
simple and you never need to adjust as the Facebook system will adjust this for
you. As your ad starts to show and you get a high click through rate this will
rapidly draw to the point where on your winning campaigns you are paying
somewhere between $.05-$.10 per thousand impressions as opposed to the $1.59
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 24
and it shows here. Again there will never be a need to adjust this once the
campaign started running; we are never going to spend more than a few dollars
on the campaign unless we see a high click through rate and at a low price per
click. Our ultimate goal is 2 fans for a penny. This is very doable and buying fans
at this price assures you of your best chance of making a profitable page.
We said ULTIMATE GOAL, $0.005 per fan is not necessary
In order to get fans at this price you will need to have a high click through rate,
that is the reason for testing many pages we will only keep the ones that give us
this high click through rate and cheap fans.
Note: in order to make Facebook ads, be sure to check out the tutorial video if
you are unfamiliar with how to do basic photo image manipulation.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 25
Chapter 4: Testing Phase
Now with our ad up and running in test phase it is important to keep an eye on
the advertisements running in Facebook and be sure to stop the ones that are not
immediately showing a high click through rate. Normally when I am doing fan
pages I am looking for a click through rate above 1% and closer to 2%.
Note: When we mention a CTR of 1-2% we mean 1.0 to 2.0. Not .01 to
.02. That can be confusing at first and we want to make sure you
don’t waste your ad money.
If you start out a campaign and immediately see even after a dollar or two spent
that your click through rate is significantly lower than that say .35 or less we can
go ahead and pause the campaign and consider that fan page idea a bust. It may
be possible in the future once you become more experienced as a Facebook fan
page marketer to make a profit with these higher cost fans. We highly
recommend though that as a beginner you are very careful to pause any
campaigns that are not getting you the super cheap fans that you need to
guarantee a successful fan page.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Facebook ad system is self adjusting. So in the
beginning of an ad campaign your CPM cost will be higher. As your ad starts to
slowly run Facebook is able to evaluate your Click Through Rate. It will
automatically lower your price. So at first even with a good CTR your first period
of fans will cost more. That’s why you always set your daily budget low so
that the ad starts very slowly and Facebook has time to adjust your cost
downwards. Once your CPM starts to get low, you can raise your budget and
build faster. If instead of the $3.00 - $5.00 test budget we recommend you set it
for $50.00 then they would flood your campaign with impressions at the higher
non adjusted CPM price. This is very important so be sure you understand how
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 26
this works. On your first couple ads watch the CPM go down as the CTR rate goes
Now at this point you may be wondering why you don't adjust the images and
play with the demographic and try to get your low performing fan page campaign
working better. We are looking for this really high click through rate based on our
rabid interest of the fans and not something minor like the image. Images will
make a difference to a small degree but it will not turn a .3 campaign into a 2%
click through rate in most cases. You are much better off spending your time
creating new pages and coming up with new ideas than you are trying to take a
loser into a winner. I can say this with great confidence as I have tried it many
times and I've always been better off scrapping the idea and looking for a winning
idea instead of trying to force it on a loser.
Think: Quantity First to Find Success
You will absolutely become very frustrated and possibly fail at this method if you
do not take this advice and continue to chase losing ideas. It is part of the
process that you will come across many failed campaigns, you'll run into losing
streaks where you spend the whole day and every campaign is a failure. Don't
give up though you also have days where you test five or six campaigns and they
are all bust-out winners with super high click through rates, lots of fans a nd
plenty of sales. That is what we are looking for, and it is well worth going
through a few losers and putting up 10 campaigns to only have three good ones.
The good ones will pay for the losers many times over.
The fact that we are testing many campaigns means that we don't want to spend
tons of time designing fancy fan pages. Only to let them run for a dollar or two
and turn off the ad and kill off the page. The idea is to test several pages while
keeping a close eye on the ad spend and click through rate. We will then pause
the ads and decide which way we are going to go on the fan page. On the fan
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 27
pages that we find that are winners that have a higher click through rate we will
pause those all so in order to build the pages out with custom landing pages so
that when the fans come to the page we can monetize that traffic in some kind of
There will sometimes be some pages that are kind of in between something that
has say .7 or .8 click through rate. These pages we may want to change our
image around or look at a different age group or something like this in order to
try to get our click through rate up to the levels that will make it very profitable.
It is not worth killing off these campaigns yet but the same time we don't want to
spend a lot of time making custom landing pages or to spend too much on
advertising only to find out the CTR drops lower and we end up paying a high
price per fan.
We are testing several ideas to find the cheapest clicks and fans. Once
we see which fan page ideas from our original list is going to work we will pause
all the campaigns and take the few that do work and set them up so that when
fans come to the page for the first time we will have some way to monetize that
traffic. It is very important to not skip this step; we do not want to be spending a
lot of our budget in Facebook ads without getting most of that back up front as we
build the pages.
The general idea is that we want to build the pages and make enough
on the front end as we build the pages to pay for our advertising costs.
So for example if it costs us $30 to build the page of say 3,000 fans the goal
would be to collect most or all of that back right away. It is not unheard of on
really popular fast-moving pages to make significantly more than your
advertising costs right away. However we have found that if you can at least
break even or make a little on your first build of the page that means that all the
advertising you can do for the life of that page is costing you nothing a nd you are
really profiting at this point.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 28
Chapter 5: Finding Winners
At this point in the process we will assume you found a few winning campaigns.
We are getting a good click through rate on our ads and fans are starting to come
to our page. We have paused our ad in order to set up a custom landing page in
Facebook so that when that fan comes to our page we are able to make some
money off of that visit.
See Video Tutorial and html code samples provided in the main
The first thing we need to do is to set up a custom landing page. This will simply
be a page that the fan comes to so that instead of just arriving to the wall the fan
will come to a page of our choosing, Facebook calls this a tab. When the person
comes to our page they will be directed to this tab if the person is already a fan of
our page they will see one version of the page. If the person visiting the page is
not yet a fan meaning that they had not liked the page yet they will see a custom
image that we set up that is specifically designed to encourage them to click the
like button and become a fan of our page. Once they click the like button and
become a fan they will move on to the monetization page which will be one of a
few different things that we can set up.
Setting up the landing page is done through a program at that is available
through Facebook that is absolutely free called static HTML. It is very easy to
use with some simple HTML coding that we will give you along with the gimp
training that we will provide y ou should have no problem setting up a basic
simple landing page. The method that you choose for monetization will depend
upon what type of fan page you have and how advanced you are in your
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 29
In the next chapter we will start an in-depth overview of the different
monetization methods available for the fan pages but first we want to talk a little
bit about how to manage the page to keep your fans engaged and liking your page
over the long-term.
Managing your fan page is very important because of the way
Facebook displays content on a user's newsfeed. Our goal as a fan page
administrator is for our fan page to get the most impressions on the most
newsfeeds whenever we make a post. The way that we do this is by keeping our
fans engaged with the page by doing things like asking questions about the topic,
posting pictures, posting videos. We can also run polls that Facebook provides.
The reason that we want to do all these things is simply that everyone tends to
interact with Facebook differently. Some folks may click through pictures while
others click on videos, or maybe they respond to trivia questions or quotes .
Our goal in running our fan page is to get as many of our fans as we can to
interact with our page whether it is through a like or a comment or just a click
through to look at our pictures. The engagement between our page and the fans is
how Facebook determines whether or not our fan page posts show up on that
individual fans newsfeed. Facebook wants to show its users things that they think
they want to see. So if someone is constantly interacting; commenting and liking
things on your fan page then when it comes time for you to put an offer on your
fan page it will be sure to show up in their newsfeed and you will get the
impressions and sales.
Some good ways to manage your fan page that I have found are as I mentioned
above posting pictures and maybe asking a question about the picture. Say for
example you have a movie or TV fan page you may find an image of a shot from
scene from one of the movie or one of the TV episodes and post a picture and ask
a question about what's going on in this picture.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 30
You may also post a quote or trivia question about your fan page. You can easily
find this through Google and this is something that gets people interacting with
the page. We have mentioned before that Facebook is a social media platform.
You want to get people interacting with your page.
Another thing I often do with my fan pages is I will copy and paste a comment or
question from another fan that didn't get much response and I will repost it to the
fan page wall. The posts from the administrator or page itself show up and
everyone will see that post, while the post from fans on the wall will not show up
in everyone's feed. So if one of your fans posts something interesting on the wall
the only people that would see it are people that visited the wall, whereas if you
post something as the admin of the page it will show up on everyone's newsfeed.
I also think doing this kind of helps to create a sense of community because the
person that originally posted the question or comment now sees that you care
that they get a good answer. Think of it as if you are hosting a party at your house
and you see someone standing over in the corner not having a good time. It’s your
duty as host to go over and engage them in the party and get them having fun and
interacting. It is absolutely the same way with a fan page, you are essentially
hosting a virtual party and it is your duty as host to make sure people are having
fun and interacting with your page.
I've also done things like have a fan of the month where someone answered a
trivia question and because they were the first to answer you could take their
avatar and make it your page avatar for the day.
We see fans of the week with A LOT of fan pages now
You could also post interesting videos; this is especially easy when you're doing a
fan page on a movie or TV show. I also keep my eyes open for important news
articles about the topic from good trusted news sources and posts links to those
news articles. Always asking for opinions or questions as you post them,
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 31
remember you want to get people interacting with the content in order to get your
page shown on the newsfeed.
It is really a numbers game, your goal is to make sure that when you are selling
something you get the most impressions of that offer, the way you make sure that
your fan page gets those impressions is by having a good interaction with your
fans so that Facebook thinks that they always want to see whatever it is you have
No Problems with Facebook with Interaction like This
You are able to keep an eye on this because after a day or two, Facebook will show
you how many impressions your post received. If the number of impressions you
get for a post is less than the number of fans you have then you know that your
fan page is getting a bit stale and you need to spend some time boosting it up with
interesting content to get people interacting with it again. On the other hand if
you just post an offer and your offer gets tons of impressions sometimes double
the amount of fans you know that you're on the right track and that Facebook is
showing your add to all of your fans and more. This screenshot is fr om a fan
page that has around 30,000 fans. People see your post multiple times.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 32
Another thing to remember is that it takes a bit of time for your posts to get some
traction and for Facebook to determine how popular it is. The reason I mention
this is I think it's important not to make too many posts right after each other, I
like to stick to one or two posts per day per fan page and that is it. This way the
posts that I make are able to get some likes and comments and get shown on
peoples fan page wall. There are exceptions to this but we will talk about that
later in the monetizing chapter.
In the next chapter on monetizing we will talk about the different ways that we
can set up to make money off of our fans when they first land on our page. That
will be on the static HTML landing page that we set up.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 33
Chapter 6: Monetizing Pages
In this chapter we will talk about different ways to monetize your fan page. We
will give you a brief overview of the different methods and then break it down in
individual chapters on the beginning intermediate and advanced methods for
monetizing your fan page. The most basic way to monetize your fan page is very
simply through the use of the Amazon affiliate program to sell products related to
your fan page topic.
Amazon is a great way to monetize your fan page for a number of reasons. First of
all Amazon is the most trusted retailer on the Internet and people are used to
buying things through Amazon. This gives them a high level of trust which really
aids in your conversions. Amazon is the biggest retailer on the Internet because
they have set up their site to be optimized for conversions. By sending your
customers to their site you are getting into their conversion system that they have
set up with their shipping methods where you have to have up to $25 to get free
shipping, plus their other systems where they show you different things that you
may want as you check out, it really helps to build the value of your tickets when
you send the customer to Amazon.
The other main way to make money through your fan pages through the use of
CPA offers. This is a bit more advanced and will involve you joining a CPA
network. A CPA offers an offer where a prospect fills in their e-mail address and
a series of offers and in an effort to possibly get some kind of freebie. I'm sure
you've seen these all over the Internet such as get a free iPad or a $1000 Wal-
Mart gift card. These offers work very well on Facebook because you are not
actually selling anything you only need for the prospect to fill in their e-mail
address. We will talk more about that in it in the intermediate chapter on
monetization, there are some things to look out for and some CPA offers can be a
annoying to customers because they feel like they are getting a bait & switch and
never getting the prize if they are promised. So you have to be very careful and
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 34
promote these offers in a prudent manner so you do not get complaints from
fans and ultimately your pages get banned.
The advanced method of monetizing your fan page would be to build a mailing
list through a service such as Aweber and then mail those fans different offers
related to the fan page as well as possibly CPA offers. This would involve you
getting set up with a mailing service as well as a good bit of work setting up the e-
mail responder series. However this is a really good long-term approach so that
if something ever happened to your fan pages you still have that list of customers
You will be setting up your fan pages to make money off of them for the long
term. You are not just setting this up as a one-shot campaign. The campaign
has a few stages , your front end stage which is the part of the campaign where
you are paying for ads and running traffic to your page. During this run if your
campaign goal is to at least break even or cut down costs then the idea is to make
most of our profit through the backend.
The backend of your campaign is all of the offers that you present to your fans
after you have stopped using your ads and you have built your fan page. Having
an effective and profitable backend will soar your business into the high profit
mode. Think about it this way if you break even on your front end and have a fan
page of say 5000 fans everything that you ever sell them for the rest of the life of
the page is all profit. I like to call this "Infinite ROI". That is our goal, to have
many fan pages that we have already paid for the advertising costs off our front
end and we continue to run offers to for the long-term.
This is how successful businesses is in any field. Their most valuable assets are
their customer list. So our goal of monetization is to build a huge customer base
that is happy to do business with us and engage with the page and will gladly click
through our offers and make purchases.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 35
Chapter 7: Amazon
The easiest and fastest way to start monetizing your fan pages through the use of
the Amazon affiliate program. You could start out on your front end by simply
having a few items for sale related to your fan page niche. So when the fan came
to your page and click like they would land on a tab that presented them with
Amazon affiliate products related to the niche.
The Amazon affiliate program is one of the biggest programs on the Internet and
for good reason, it converts very well. The Amazon system is set up with tiered
commission program meaning that the more you sell the higher your commission
rate. It actually starts out at a pretty low 4% of your sale on most items.
However it is not too hard to get set up to 7% by selling a few hundred items.
The thing I like about the Amazon program is the fact that your customer can buy
anything on the Amazon site and if they came to Amazon through your link you
get a commission for anything they buy for up to 24 hours. Just think about
that, people use Amazon every day, Facebook is the most traveled site on the
Internet, so many times you will be getting a commission for things that you are
not even trying to sell. I would say at least half of all my Amazon commissions
are for things that I did not offer to my fans.
For example say you are doing a fan page about a television show and you post
the DVD set of one of the television shows series seasons. You ask a question to
your fan something along the lines of. Season four was a great season what was
your favorite episode?
Your fans who are interested in the show may not remember exactly what
episodes were shown during season four so they will click through to Amazon to
take a look at the DVD. Maybe they decide to go ahead and buy it or maybe they
don't buy anything now but then they purchase from Amazon within the next 24
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 36
hours, you still get a commission because you have placed your cookie by having
them click on your link. Of course many times because you have targeted fans
that are interested in the subject you are linking to they go ahead and buy right
away. Once you build up a nice portfolio of fan pages and start posting Amazon
items on a regular basis you will find yourself getting commissions every single
day. It is very steady and very fan friendly as no one has ever complained to me
about an Amazon link on their page.
Some things to remember when posting Amazon links to your wall; you want to
have things that are related to your fan page and don't want to just post random
items that are not related in any way to whatever it is your fan page is about.
That is why I like to stick with things like TV shows, movies, authors anything
that would have a good presence of things to sell on Amazon. There are also tons
of T-shirts and things like that on Amazon that you can sell that are related to
your topic. Hobby fan sites are also excellent for Amazon sales, say you are
doing a fan site on electric trains, there will be many different books and train
models available to pitch to your fans the same can be said of just about any
hobby so you are only limited to your imagination.
You'll also find that if you are doing it right with the Amazon program your fans
will actually do most of the selling for you. Let's go back to the example of the TV
show you post the DVD set for season four and before you know it people are
commenting and liking the posts and talking about what a great show that was ,
or what a great season that was. Often times someone who already owns the
product and is a member of the fan page will chime in and say you know what a
great product it is in this helps you to sell to the other fans. This is what's called
in marketing, social proof and it is super powerful on
Facebook especially when you're doing very targeted Amazon product pitches.
There are some downfalls to the Amazon program. As mentioned earlier the
commissions can be quite low in the beginning and only 4% and this sometimes
turns people off. For me the most annoying part of the Amazon program is how
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 37
long it takes them to pay you. They are on the net 60 payment scheme. So for
example at the beginning of August my payment from Amazon was for my May
commissions, this is less of a problem once you get up and running however at
the beginning it can be frustrating so keep that in mind.
Amazon is but one of many physical product affiliate programs on the Internet.
You can check into Commission Junction, Share-A-Sale, LinkShare and the
Google affiliate program. There are just tons of things you can find to sell to your
fans that are physical products.
In addition to selling physical products there are some well-known services that
you can provide to your fans and get a commission for. Netflix has an affiliate
program that you can sign up for; it is actually in the Google affiliate network. I
believe however that you are not allowed to directly link your Netflix affiliate link
to your fan page. I've had some decent success just setting up the offer on my
blog, and then linking my blog posts to the fan page wall and offering my fans the
chance to sign up for Netflix for their free trial offer.
I'm also aware that the RealPlayer has a premium service that also has an affiliate
program and we have had some good success with this program. This is similar
in that it has a free trial program that if you get a sign-up from your fans for the
premium content service you are paid a nice commission.
I am sure there are many other ideas and affiliate programs out there. As I
mentioned before the limitations are only your imagination and creativity. That
is one of the great things about the fan page method is that once you have the
fans you are able to test and experiment with many different offers and affiliate
programs. You already pay for the traffic so it isn't costing you anything if
something doesn't work out.
In the next chapter we will talk about some more intermediate methods of
monetization for your fan page
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 38
Chapter 8: CPA & Polls
In this chapter we talk about a more intermediate strategy of monetizing your fan
page. CPA offers or cost per acquisition offers are designed by outside advertisers
to gain customer data such as e-mails. You are in essence just generating leads
for another advertising agency.
You've probably seen these around the Internet, things like $1000 Wal-Mart gift
card and win a free iPad. The way these work is that prospect fills out their e -
mail on the first page, it is at this point that you get your commission. The
commission is usually something like a $1.20 - $1.50 in that range. It is
important to note that once the prospect fills out their e-mail address they are
taken through a path of many offers and hoops that they need to jump through to
get the advertised prize. For this reason you have to be very careful when
advertising CPA offers on Facebook. You do not want to get your fans upset and
start marking your post as SPAM.
When I promote CPA offers on my Facebook fan pages I do it in a very low-key
way, and not too aggressive so that my fans don't get upset and I don't feel the
wrath of Facebook. I think one of the best ways to accomplish this is through
using an opinion poll. For example during the Casey Anthony murder trial I
would set up a new opinion poll every few days based on what was happening
around the trial. This also works for television series, what was your favorite part
of the show? Which character is hotter? Which character would you rather be
stranded on a desert island with? They're all kinds of creative ways to set up a
poll that will be interesting to your fans.
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 39
I use the program WordPress easy polls and will show you how to set this up
in a video. It is free and very simple. You also need to be set up with a CPA
network. This is an affiliate network where you will go to find your CPA offers
they have long list of offers and this is what you would use on the back end of
So the way it works is you set up a poll on your own domain, related to the fan
page topic. You then share the link to the poll on your fan page wall and suggest
that your fans click below to vote. I am not too aggressive in my suggestion to go
vote and never mention anything about an e-mail submit offer on the backend or
any kind of prizes. The reason I do this is I want there to be a separation
between any possible bad experience the fan may have with the CPA offer and our
_________________________Fan Page Commissions_________________________ 40
fan page. Most fans have no problem with CPA offers and do not complain, in
fact many actually complete with a full process and art able to get the prize. One
tip that I have for CPA offers is that I tried to find things that are more realistic
and not as unbelievable such as $1000 Wal-Mart gift card. I have had much
more success with something that is like a free dinner or a $100 gift card. It just
seems more credible to me. The Free iPad offers work but again that's getting up
there in the unbelievable category. Make sure you test to find what works with
I think it's important to remember that you'd want to distance yourself a bit from
the CPA offers in case someone complains. The last thing you want to do is all
this work and time investment to build up these fan pages only to have them
banned because too many people are complaining about y our CPA offers. I
would absolutely never ever direct link to CPA offer to my fan page
wall and tell my fans to go fill it out and win whatever prize. With the
poll method the fans are interacting with something on topic about the fan page
and then choosing on their own decision whether or not to fill in the CPA offer.
You have not suggested anything and therefore you distance yourself from any
bad experience they may have, again it is not always a bad experience and I've
had several people write me back and thanked me for giving them the free
subway or whatever.
It is just important to note though that some of these offers can be toxic to some
people and you need to keep this in mind did not get yourself in trouble as
Facebook above all else wants their users to have a good experience.
Another way to use CPA offers is through the coupon drive. I've had some
success with different fan page coupon promotions. Using a few different coupon
newsletter offers. In this case I would just put a banner link to the coupon offer
on my own domain. Then link that page to the fan page wall and mention
something about showing our sponsor the support for the show by signing up for
the coupon newsletter. The coupon offers in general are much less aggressive in

my experiences and people tend not to complain as they do generally get their
coupons. I am very careful to watch the comments and make sure that no one is
having any problems getting their coupons.
Another type of CPA offer that you might find to use on your fan page is the CPA
quiz. These are things like “Which true blood character are you?” or “Which
Family Guy character are you?” These quiz offers are set up by the marketing
companies and the prospect goes through a series of questions about the topic
and at the end has to submit their information typically their cell phone number
in order to get the results of the quiz. In our experience these tend to convert
very well but because the prospect doesn't get the answer without submitting
their information they do sometimes tend to get upset and complain about these
offers. So this is something you should use with discretion.
Overall I think this CPA polls are a great way to monetize your fan pages and also
kind of fun. There is always something going on surrounding most topics and if
you can find something that is somewhat controversial or that holds the fans
interest they will be glad to go to a poll and vote. This is a good way to monetize
things that don't have too much available to sell in the way of physical products.
This is an intermediate step that will help you maximize your return on
investment for your fan pages. However I am 100% convinced that using CPA
offers is not at all necessary to make your fan page business a success. You could
easily make a nice profit using only Amazon and other physical products, which
are far less risky in terms of getting complaints from fans and a possible ban from
It is ultimately up to you, whether you want to take the additional risk of using
CPA offers. I use them and have had no problems and very few complainers, but
I am very careful to distance myself from the offer. You don't want to be pushing
these too hard.

A quick note about complaints; it is inevitable that at some point someone
may complain about one of your promotions or CPA offers. They may post
something in the comments like “this is a scam” or something like that. It is very
rare but when you're dealing with a high volume there will be a few people that
are just jerks. I have no tolerance for this on my fan pages, and if someone makes
a negative comment towards one of my promotions I simply remove posts and
ban user. Remember you pay for these fan pages and the goal is to make money.
I will not let someone spoil it for me and everyone else by poisoning the
atmosphere on the fan page. This goes beyond just complaining about offers, if
you see someone that is abusive to other fans, or just generally a problem, feel no
remorse about banning quickly. It goes back to the idea about being a good host,
and if someone is annoying you they are likely annoying the rest of your fan base
as well. Ban them quickly and move on.

Chapter 9: Mailing List
What I consider to be an advanced monetizing strategy for your fan pages is
building a mailing list. The goal here is to take your fans off of Facebook and put
them onto your own personal mailing list. You then have the opportunity to mail
to that customer over and over with different CPA offers or affiliate products.
There are many ways you can do this and manage a mailing list.
The first opportunity to monetize your fans through a mailing list is with the sign
up process. In order for this method to work you need a e-mail service such as
Aweber, they provide you with the setup and mail to your customers and you are
able to set up an automatic series of e-mails so that when anyone ever signed up
to your list they may get your series of e-mails automatically.
The way I work this is simple, I offer my fans to sign up f or an e-mail newsletter
related to the topic at hand. For example an Alley McBeal newsletter, the
prospect that is very interested in the Alley McBeal show will sign up for the
newsletter. This is the first opportunity I have to monetize this fan because as
they go through the sign-up process they will sign up confirm their e-mail and
then end up at a thank you page saying either e-mail has been confirmed.
Aweber makes it possible for you to do custom links on where your thank you
page will go. What I do is send the fan to a CPA offer such as a free dinner or
hundred dollar gift certificate for some restaurant. So when I am advertising my
e-mail sign up, I mention today's special promotion. The fan signs up, goes
through the sign-up process and ends up at today's special CPA promotion. I
have had good conversions and almost 0 complaints using this method. This is a
good way to monetize your front end when people are signing up for your fan
page in the beginning.

You then have the person's e-mail address on the double opt in and you're able to
mail them your series of e-mail newsletters. In these e-mail newsletters I will put
links to either Amazon products or Netflix related offers. I have even
experimented with building an offer wall, which is simp ly a long list of different
offers; an opportunity for that fan may be interested. It makes sense to build an
offer wall for your larger e-mail lists. For example using the Alley McBeal page I
could build offer wall that had links to not only freebie offers but Netflix, Amazon
perhaps some T-shirt link anything related to Alley McBeal. I could then link this
offer wall in my e-mails.
There are tons of ways to monetize an e-mail list and lots of information available
on the Internet to learn this method of marketing. I personally recommend
building up your fan pages a bit and concentrating on that end of your business
first before you get caught up in setting up e-mailing lists and writing out long
series of e-mail follow-up. The reason I say this is because it is a bit more time
consuming and there is an investment involved with the Aweber as well as the
time it takes to set up your e-mail series.
I like to make sure I have a large responsive list of fans before I go to the extra
time and trouble of setting up the e-mail list. You can always go back and post
links to the e-mail sign up on your wall after you've built your fan base. However
once you get the hang of it, you may want to have your e-mail sign up right on
your first landing page so that when people first come to your fan site they see the
e-mail sign up and you have a chance to monetize them through the CPA offer.
Another idea to get the most emails in your Aweber account is to have the user
"like" your fan page and the next page they see is your opt-in form. Using the
iframe HTML tab you can use this method with ease.
Some other notes about e-mail; services such as Aweber are very valuable to you
as an Internet marketer, you want to be very careful about what you mail and

how you set things up so that you do not get many spam complaints. The first
thing you should do is use double opt in on your e-mails, that way someone can’t
say that they were not signed up for your list when they get your promotional e -
mails. The other thing I would do is stick with the automatic e-mail series only. I
have tried doing the large broadcast of CPA offers to all of my fans that weren't
really that related to their topic, and got quite a few complaints. It is best to stick
to a very white hat long-term method and mail a daily/weekly quality newsletter
with one or two links and a low spam score.
The way I go about setting up these newsletters is very simple I just go to
Wikipedia or other information sites on the Internet and gather information from
them and cut and paste together an e-mail. Fans seem to love this and I get lots
of great feedback, you can also post the link to the fan page wall in the e-mail and
maybe a question to get them interacting with the page. These ideas just
scratched the surface of e-mail marketing.

Chapter 10: Long-term Strategy
This Facebook fan page method is a long-term Internet business building
strategy. You'll have the most success if you think of it this way and not a short
hit-and-run type money grab. If you are showing your fans a good time on your
fan pages, you can market them aggressively, but not too hard that you get
complaints. There is no reason why you cannot build up a large portfolio of fan
There may also come a day when having a Facebook fan page is even
more valuable than it is today. At some point Facebook may restrict the
number of pages you can have or change their advertising guidelines in some
way, so my idea is to take advantage of this opportunity while it lasts. Pages are
very easy to build and test and there is no reason you couldn't have hundreds of
pages with hundreds of thousands of fans to market to for years to come.
Another idea that Browie has done but I have not done personally is building a
website off-line and connecting it to a fan page. Say for example the Ally McBeal
fan site, you could then connect your Facebook fan page to the fan site and link it
on your site from your fan page. You would also be building up an asset with
your website they could possibly be in the future sold on a site like Flippa.
At some point there may become an aftermarket for fan pages. I do not know of
such a market that exists now but in the future who knows what your fan page
could be worth. If you are building them following this method you're getting
your fan pages forever and getting some of your money back as you build the
pages on the front end. Since most of your commissions on the backend will be
profit, these fan pages could be a valuable asset for you for years to come.

As of now there is not a way to change admins on a fan page. If you try and sell
the fans the buyer would have to trust that you will not post any of your personal
offers to gain commission off of the fans that you sold to them. Maybe you end
up getting plenty of SEO traffic with your new website that the seller is only
interested in the website. There are a bunch of possible scenarios that come into
play when trying to sell what you have created.

That is one of the biggest points in being successful with this method. I was not
interested in the Casey Anthony trial until the entrepreneur inside of me saw an
opportunity. From that point on I needed to stay up to date with the news of the
trial so I could interact with my fans and create those polls.
