     d)    Calculate strain produced in a material, if the length of wire is 4m and
           extension is 2mm.
     e)    Give two examples to show that liquid has surface tension.
      f)   Define force of viscosity.
     g)    State Boyle’s law.
     h)    State the factors on which quantity of heat absorbed depend upon.
      i)   Define Convection. Give an example.
      j)   What is Refraction?

        ii)A stone tied to the end of a 30cm long string is whirled in a              (3)
        horizontal circle. If the centripetal acceleration is 12m/s2, find its
        angular velocity.

        What should be the angle of banking?
     b) i)The acceleration due to gravity at the moon’s surface is 1.67m/s2. If       (3)
        the radius of moon is 1.74 x 106m, calculate mass of the moon.
        ii)What is stream line flow & turbulent flow? State the significance of       (3)
        Reynold’s number.
     c) Explain determination of viscosity of a given liquid by stoke’s method,       (6)
        with a neat diagram.

     a) i)Define Young’s modulus of elasticity. Obtain an expression for it.           (3)
        ii)What is the length of a steel wire of 0.5mm radius if its length            (3)
        increases by 1mm, when stretched by a mass of 4kg. Youngs modulus
        for steel is 2 x 1011 N/m2.
     b) i)What is adhesive and cohesive force? Why some liquids rise & others         (3)
        fall in a capillary tube, when dipped in a liquid?
        ii)Find the surface tension of mercury, if mercury is depressed by            (3)
        8.2mm in a capillary tube of diameter 2.25mm. Angle of contact is
        140 & density of mercury = 13.6 x 103 kg/m3.                                ….2/-

      c) i)State Newton’s law of viscosity. Write an expression & explain the            (3)
         ii)Define Elastic limit & factor of safety.                                     (3)

     a) i)Differentiate between heat and temperature. State their SI units.               (3)
        ii)A gas at 13c is heated at constant pressure till its volume is                (3)
        doubled. What is its final temperature?
     b) Define conduction. Explain conduction of heat along a metal rod. What            (6)
        is steady state and variable state?
     c) A glass sheet of area 1m2 has thickness of 2mm. Its opposite faces are           (6)
        at temperatures 25c and 10c respectively. If coefficient of thermal
        conductivity of glass is 2 x 10-4 kcal/mC s, find the quantity of heat
        conducted in one second.

     a) i)The angle of incidence for a light ray traveling from air to glass is 35       (4)
        and the corresponding angle of refraction is 22. Calculate refractive
        index of glass.
        ii) Define Latent heat of fusion.                                                (2)
     b) i)Explain total internal reflection. Draw a ray diagram.                         (4)
        ii)State inverse square law of illumination.                                     (2)
     c) i)State Gay-Lussac’s law.                                                        (2)
        ii)Calculate the mass of ice which will cool down 5kg of water at 373k           (4)
        to 273k. Specific heat of water = 4200 J/kg/k & Latent heat of ice =
        336000 J/kg.
