What should be the angle of banking? b) i)The acceleration due to gravity at the moon’s surface is 1.67m/s2. (3) ii)What is the length of a steel wire of 0.5mm radius if its length (3) increases by 1mm, when stretched by a mass of 4kg. Youngs modulus for steel is 2 x 1011 N/m2. b) i)What is adhesive and cohesive force? Why some liquids rise & others (3) fall in a capillary tube, when dipped in a liquid? ii)Find the surface tension of mercury, if mercury is depressed by (3) 8.2mm in a capillary tube of diameter 2.25mm. State their SI units. (3) ii)A gas at 13c is heated at constant pressure till its volume is (3) doubled. What is its final temperature? b) Define conduction. Explain conduction of heat along a metal rod. What (6) is steady state and variable state? c) A glass sheet of area 1m2 has thickness of 2mm. Its opposite faces are (6) at temperatures 25c and 10c respectively. If coefficient of thermal conductivity of glass is 2 x 10-4 kcal/mC s, find the quantity of heat conducted in one second. Q.No.6. Answer any two of the following: 2 x 6 = 12 a) i)The angle of incidence for a light ray traveling from air to glass is 35 (4) and the corresponding angle of refraction is 22. Calculate refractive index of glass. ii) Define Latent heat of fusion. (2) b) i)Explain total internal reflection. Draw a ray diagram. (4) ii)State inverse square law of illumination. (2) c) i)State Gay-Lussac’s law. (2) ii)Calculate the mass of ice which will cool down 5kg of water at 373k (4) to 273k. Specific heat of water = 4200 J/kg/k & Latent heat of ice = 336000 J/kg. ***********
