degree in Mathematics with strong problem solving, documentation, and research skills. Outstanding
strength in systems, applications and end-user support. Proven ability to function in both specialized and
diversified environments.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
BANK OF NEW YORK MELLON, New York, NY 1995 - July 2009
Systems Programmer
Provided support for ISPF on MVS mainframes, which included coding in REXX, CLIST, and COBOL/ DB2
interfacing with ISPF services to facilitate application programming development. Installed and supported
MVS program products including FILEAID, INSYNC, JCLPREP, QUICKREF/MVS and DYNASTEP.
Maintained several web and client Lotus Notes applications, coding in Notes Formula Language, Notes
Script and Javascript. Maintained softcopy documentation in both PDF and BookManager formats on both
MVS and USS directories. Provided extensive problem solving support to application and systems
programmers. Upgraded and tailored ISPF/TSO under various releases of Z/OS.
Improved application and system programmer throughput by creating and maintaining various ISPF
dialogs, installing, upgrading, tailoring and supporting MVS program product tools and
troubleshooting/researching/solving problems and documenting their solutions in a timely manner.
Improved turnaround time from weeks to days for hundreds of programmers by collaborating in the
design and maintaining an in-house DB2-based request system which possessed both web and
mainframe user interfaces.
Maintained the integrity of the production system by supporting and modifying a homegrown mainframe
transmittal system which utilized Assembler, CLIST, COBOL and ISPF dialog services.
PHILIP MORRIS INTERNATIONAL, New York, NY 1975 - 1995
Manager of Software, Principal Technical Analyst 1979 - 1995
Supported IBM mainframes running VM and VSE on the systems, application, and end-user levels. Installed
new program products and upgraded/fixed existing products under VM, VSE, DEC/RSTS; e.g., Sterling
Software and Goal Systems product suites. Managed a small group of System Programmers.
Introduced new features and maintained support by orchestrating several significant software upgrades:
VM/HPO to VM/ESA; VM/PROFS to OFFICE VISION/VM; DOS/VSE TO VSE/SP 2.1.
Increased throughput and maintained support by assisting in the following hardware and communication
upgrades: DEC PDP 11/70 to IBM 4331; IBM 4331 to 4341; IBM 4341 to 4381; IBM 4381 to 3083 and
3081; IBM 4381 to 9221; IBM 3370 to 3380 DASD; IBM 3420 to 3480 tape drives, IBM 3380 single
density DASD to triple density; BTAM to VTAM; 3174 coax-attached terminals to token-ring attached
PCs.
Reduced licensing costs and manpower by merging two data centers - one involving a 3081 running
VSE/SP in Rye Brook to a 3090 running MVS in Richmond (received President’s Award) and another
involving a 9221 running VM in Rye Brook to one running VM in Richmond.

DIBOL/11 and IBM/COBOL.
Set the foundation for the expansion of the Data Processing Department by designing, coding,
implementing and maintaining a complete international financial consolidation package that ran on a
DEC PDP/8 and subsequently converted it to run on a PDP/11.
Automated accounts receivable and cash receipts by coding and maintaining numerous COBOL
programs on IBM 360/370.
Computerized accounting functions such as online order entry, financial consolidation, budgets, accounts
receivable and general ledger by supervising a small group of programmers.
