Dear Ms Oliver,

Request for Information

Thank you for your correspondence dated 19th November 2009 regarding causes
of UK casualties in Afghanistan, which is considered to be a request for
information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. I am responding
on behalf of the information holders.

You asked:

    1. Can you provide a breakdown of the diseases and 'other' causes
of casualties for UK Military personnel in Afghanistan for 2006,
     2007, 2008 and 2009.

     2. Can you provide a breakdown of the diseases and 'other' causes
of fatalities for UK Military personnel in Afghanistan for 2006,
     2007, 2008 and 2009

in the public domain through the Ministry of Defence and Defence Analytical and
Statistics Agency websites. The websites likely to be of most interest to you are:

Information on the number of UK Service personnel who have sustained
amputations as a result of their deployment on operations will be published
routinely as an official statistic from January 2010 through the MOD internet site.

If you are unhappy with this response or any part of our handling of your FOI
requests then you may apply for an internal review by contacting the Director of
Information Exploitation, 6th Floor, MOD Main Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB (e-
mail: xxxxxxx@xxx.xx). Please note that any request for an internal review must
be made within two calendar months of the date on which the attempt to reach
informal resolution has come to an end.

If you are still unhappy following an internal review, you may take your complaint
to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section 50 of the
Freedom of Information Act. Please note that the Information Commissioner will
not normally investigate your case until the MOD internal review process has
been completed. Further details of the role and powers of the Information
Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website,
http://www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely,
