POE Update: Purchase District

Purchase District POE is appreciative of the hard work of the service coordinators and the providers in meeting
indicators 1 and 8c. We were released from our CAP in April.

Purchase District POE continues to collaborate with all early childhood councils in our district as well as Paducah
Independent Head Start and Murray Early Head Start and Head Start programs. In May, Murray Early Head Start
and Purchase District POE will be collaborating in child find by providing screens of children birth to three.

We had some great opportunities in April for some wonderful child find activities. Marshall County Schools
hosted a transition program for families in Marshall County. We set up a booth and gave transition information as
well as First Steps information. Purchase District POE also was able to display a First Steps booth for a local
early childhood institute hosted by West KY Association for Early Childhood Education (WKAECE). This
institute was a great success with over 130 people attending from the Purchase and Pennyroyal districts.

Family Voice:

There are many ways for families to become involved with planning and developing Early Intervention services in
Kentucky. One way is to be a Parent Representative on the District Early Intervention Council (DEIC). This group

                                                                                                               1
meets in your community to discuss and take action on issues affecting young children with developmental delays.
The DEICs encourage local interagency coordination, identify early childhood issues and help plan district service
delivery systems for families of eligible infants and toddlers from birth to age 3. The DEICs often organize
trainings or host guest speakers to bring current information about topics of interest to those who have, or work
with, children with and without developmental delays. Contact your local Regional Technical Assistant, RTA to
find out when your local DEIC meets. Encourage parents you work with to attend a DEIC meeting!

Do you have a success story you would like to share?
Never underestimate the power of your story. A well-told story has the potential to touch hearts and minds. While
impersonally delivered facts can easily be forgotten or dismissed, a story lingers and mingles with all the other
stories that shape our shared human experience. What you r families share will likely encourage other families in
similar situations. Family stories can also help professionals receive the encouragement and motivation they need
to continue in their work and to find new, creative ways to make a difference in a child’s life. We would love to
hear from you. Please email your story to Emily Keely at eaheat0@uky.edu

Business Associate Agreements

The State Lead Agency was notified yesterday that all early intervention providers will need to file a signed

Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The DPH Business Associate Agreement will be posted
