[Lab Equipment & Safety]
(1) What’s Our Purpose Today?
• Identify the types of lab tools chemists use.
• Understand the function of each lab tool.
• Become familiar with our different lab
  rooms.
• Become familiar with safety-equipment
  locations.
  (2) BIG Questions for Today:
1. What are some ways to measure the
   amount of a substance?
2. What type of equipment could you use to
   mix or separate substances?
3. Which chemistry tools are similar to some
   familiar kitchen tools?
(3) What Are We Going To Do?
• Go to Lab 113 (directly next door).
• Work in Pairs (Groups of 2).

• Draw a Picture of the Lab Room (on a separate
  sheet of paper).

• Use Your Worksheet:
  – Write on a separate sheet of paper.
  – Write the name of the tool.
  – Draw a picture of the tool.
  – Write the function of the tool (in your own words).

• Visit the “other” lab room (Lab 110).
     (4) Behavior Reminders:
1. Silent in the hallways.
2. Follow teacher, do not wander.
3. Stay at entrance way of lab + Wait for
   Directions.
4. Listen to Rozema.
5.  Any minor horseplay, joking around, etc.
will be automatic SRC referrals. (Please do
not make me do this, it sucks!)

You do NOT have to write
 any of this down. BUT,
     pay attention!

    (3) Which tools could we use to
             mix things?
• Erlenmeyer Flask

• Stirring Rod

• Beaker

• Test Tube
    (4) Which tools could we use to
        remove/separate things?
• Tongs

• Maybe Stirring Rod
    (5) Which tools were similar to
            kitchen-tools?
• Measuring Cups  Graduated Cylinder
• Food Scales  Balance
• Tongs  Tongs
• Stove  Hot Plate
• Grill  Bunsen Burner
• Mixing Spoons  Stirring Rod
• Mixing Bowls  Erlenmeyer Flask
• Sink  Wash Bottle
     Name That Piece:
1. Identify the function of the piece I
   hold up...
                   OR
2. Identify the equipment I define…
