Youth Opportunity Fund Revenue Application 07/08
What’s it about?
The Government is giving money to local authorities to develop youth
banks so that young people aged between 13-19 (up to 25 for those young
people with a learning disability) can make decisions about how money is
spent on activities in their area. Barnet has been given £199,556 to spend
by March 2008. Only young people can decide how this money gets
The YOF fund is for new activities or projects for young people in
Barnet, it may mean that you need some equipment or specialists tutors to
support the project and this would be considered as part of your proposal,
but large capital spend cannot be considered. Proposals should consider
how the activity or project will engage and reach a wide group of young
people. Activities funded must take place by March 31st 2008 and reports
submitted to demonstrate how many young people the funding will

How can I apply for the money?
There are no set limits to the amount you can ask for but it has to
realistically match the cost of what you are asking to do with it and how
many young people will be able to access it. Young people only are
allowed to apply, but adults can help. You must have an organisation that
is willing to put their name to the application in order for you to get the
money, as they will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the

Guidelines for payments:
The Youth Bank Panel meets at the end of every month to look at the
applications and give groups a chance to present their ideas. Once the
Youth Bank Panel has met to decide the applications, a letter confirming
the money and the conditions will be sent on behalf of the Youth Bank
from Barnet Youth and Connexions Service
