This assignment assesses Outcome 1.

Scenario

The aim of this unit is to give learners an opportunity to experience the process of carrying out a design
project. It will enable them to appreciate that design involves synthesizing parameters that will affect the
design solution.

To achieve the assessment criteria for pass (P1) you must demonstrate the ability to:

• establish customer requirements
• determine the major design parameters
• obtain design information from appropriate sources and prepare a design specification
• ensure that the design specification meets requirements.

This can be achieved by completing the given tasks and submitting your solutions in a neat well
presented manner with comments/explanations where appropriate. All sketches and diagrams
should be clearly annotated.

                                              Tasks
Task1: Prepare a design specification ( Hand Sketch with 5-15 times than the original in A1
format paper Solid demo, Ball Bearing engines) and report the following.

1.1 performance of engine, aircraft; cross and production parameters
1.2 market analysis of the individuals engine and aircraft
1.3 Design process; standards and legislation
1.4 Design Matrix analysis, brainstorming, mind mapping, force decision making
1.5 Cost effectively of the engine and aircraft
1.6 Drawing charts, graphs with the data collection of individual engine and aircraft

Task2: final design with CBT AutoCAD in A1 format Paper

2.1 Students should know

2.1.1 Accessing and using appropriate software.

       Plant layout
       Design features
       Matrix analysis
       Standard components
       Graphical diagram of engine & A/C performance



Task3: Finally evaluation of costs, compatibility & function of the individual engines and
Aircraft.

Completing the above tasks, to the required standard, will allow you to achieve the P1 criteria;
guidance on accessing the higher grades is given on the next page.
