                                      The holiday season has arrived and if it seems like September was only yesterday
                                      you are not alone! The holidays are an opportunity to take a break from the hustle
                                      and bustle of busy school schedules and reflect upon challenges and celebrate
                                      successes over the past year and plan for the upcoming year. The School Milk
                                      Program would like to sincerely thank Milk Coordinators for all the hard work you’ve
                                      done this fall to ensure the success of the School Milk Program. To show our
                                      appreciation, we have enclosed a copy of the 35 anniversary edition 2012 Milk
                                      Dairy Farmers of Manitoba would like to wish each and every one of you a joyful and
                                      festive holiday season.

Crafty with cartons                   Milk Spirit Week registration is just around the corner and we’d like to highlight the fun
                                      your school can have while celebrating. Each year, Dairy Farmers of Manitoba
                                      rewards schools (both elementary and JR/SR High) for participating in the School
                                      Milk Program. Milk Spirit Week is a 5 day celebration held at your schools
                                      convenience sometime between February and June. All schools are given access to
                                      our activities and ideas resource filled with exciting activities to plan Milk Spirit Week.
                                      The first 200 schools to apply with three milk related Spirit Week events will receive a
                                      kit of special Spirit Week rewards. Continue reading to find out how Milk Spirit Week
                                      is a Moo-velous idea to complement your school’s Milk Program.

                                      At the end of every school year, we ask coordinators for their feedback on the School
                                      Milk Program. Last year, we asked you to share your challenges and your successes
                                      with the program. What we continue to learn is that a phenomenal network of School
                                      Milk Coordinators, school staff, parent volunteers, community businesses and student
                                      helpers contribute to the continued success of the School Milk Program. Here is what

                                                         Milk Mobiles

                                                         Use any size of empty milk carton to make cars, trucks, trains and other
                                                         wheeled vehicles. Wash and dry milk cartons. For 250 mL milk cartons
                                                         remove the top (4 flaps folded into a peak) leaving the bottom of the milk
                                                         carton and 4 sides. For a larger milk carton, remove one long side and 2 of
                                                         the top flaps. Fold the remaining 2 top flaps down and tape them to make a

Luminaries can be used to decorate sidewalk
paths or front door steps and can even be used
as table centre pieces (place a cookie sheet or
cake pan under luminary to collect melting ice
and decorate the pan with evergreen branches

luminary and let it glow all night, until the candle
burns out!
