									     WATER RESERVOIR MONITORING AND PUMP
               SYSTEM USING GSM

                                                ABSTRACT



        In most of the villages, the reservoirs will be present at a place far way from that village. The
person who takes care of the reservoir, water supply to the village at particular timings has to go
there at that time, switch on the motor and allow the water supply to the village. He has to do this
regularly irrespective of the environmental conditions.




        To avoid all these and make the process completely an automated product, this project has
been designed. If a system is developed for automation of pump for filling the container, no
operator is required for supervising the system. This project uses wireless concept, GSM to
implement this application.




         The person need not go to the reservoir actually. He can start the water supply whenever
he wishes to. All that is required to do is fix the controlling unit to the reservoir. The GSM modem
will be interfaced with the controlling unit.




        A modem provides the communication interface. It transports device protocols
transparently over the network through a serial interface. A GSM modem is a wireless modem that
works with a GSM wireless network. A wireless modem behaves like a dial-up modem. The main
difference between them is that a dial-up modem sends and receives data through a fixed telephone
line while a wireless modem sends and receives data through radio waves.




         The water level in the reservoir can be regularly monitored by using magnetic sensors fixed
outside the reservoir tank. The microcontroller continuously checks the output from the magnetic
sensors and decides the water level of the reservoir. Whenever the person wants to provide water
supply to his village, he will send a predefined message from his mobile to the modem.




         The modem receives the message from the mobile and sends the same to the
microcontroller. The microcontroller checks the water level, starts the motor to pump the water and
in return sends a message to the modem about the water level. Thus, the user receives this message
from the modem.

         This project uses regulated 5V, 500mA power supply. 7805 three terminal voltage regulator is used for
voltage regulation. Bridge type full wave rectifier is used to rectify the ac out put of secondary of 230/12V step
down transformer.
