Communication report by APIC Sierra is unique in that it provides e-mail
Harriette Carr communication to its members, which many chapters do
not have. The area that encompasses the Sierra APIC
chapter had a very large number of rural hospitals.
Harriette encouraged members to reach out and respond
to the e-mail questions that are posted by ICPs from
these rural hospitals as sometimes the e-mails are the
only assistance they receive in answering these
questions/issues. CDPH is looking at utilizing a system
close to ours due to its success, Harriette discussed
criteria to forward questions/issues: Must be of general
nature to everyone, nothing political, nothing vendor
oriented (vendor information will be send to the board
for approval before sending out), product recalls/failures,
and no job openings.
Next meeting The next meeting will be March 19, 2010 at the Sutter Info only Closed

patients that have Positive MRSA screens.
Terry Nelson noted that if your policy for MRSA
screening has been approved through medical
staff committees and you are following your
policy for screening (including isolation, etc.)
then CDPH will most likely have no problems
with your process.
2. Pre-operative skin preps: Remember that if you
do not follow manufacturer’s recommendations
for application of the skin prep (i.e. wiping off
before product dries), you are liable for the
adverse outcomes to the patient rather than the
manufacturer. AORN standards recommend
that the Timeout procedure includes time for
drying of the skin prep with documentation.
3. There was a Technicare recall in the past, many
members were not aware of this recall.
Harriette will send out information on the recall.
Meeting adjourned at 0945 and followed by Education Program at 1015 Respectfully submitted by Shonna Avant, Recording Secretary, APIC Sierra Chapter 044
