              Nazzereno “Nat” Romano was born in 1898 in the town of L’Aquila, Italy,                                                                       In 1944, Romano’s Pizzeria
              in the province of Abruzzo. In 1927, Nat came to America and lived in                                                                         sold “Tomato Pies” and
              South Philly with his wife, Pep, and their two children, Ceil and Pete. He                                                                    moved to Tinicum, operating

                                        In 1950, Nat created a secret                                       Nat’s customers asked what his new sandwich was

                                                     Pete Romano Senior had worked, as a young man, with Nat
                                                     and took up the family business in 1960. He preserved the
                                                     secret family recipe for the Stromboli, and gradually expand-

                                                            Today Romano’s Pizzeria has become a
                                                            household name all along the eastern
                                                            seaboard. The Romano family continues
                                                            to make “stromboli” exactly the way
                                                            Nazzereno did way back in 1950.
                                    Birthplace of the World’s First Stromboli
                               The Original Romano’s Stromboli, was created by Nazzereno
                               “Nat” Romano in Essington, PA. Nat was born in 1898 in
                               the town of Aquila, Italy in the province of Brucasse.

                               In 1927, Nat came to America and started making pizza
                               shells to support his family throuh the depression.

                               In 1944 Nat moved to Essington where he created
                               the world’s 1st Stromboli in 1950.



 The Romano Stromboli is filled with
 various cheeses, typically mozzarella,
 Italian meats such as salami, capicola
 or vegetables.

 The proprietary dough is a family
 secret, that is topped with various
 pizza toppings and is then rolled into
 a log and baked.
