Job Title: Bike It Officer, Torbay
Salary: Grade F: £20,370 - £22,800 per annum
(dependent on relevant skills and experience)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Fixed Term: 12 month contract

To promote walking and cycling, principally to 9-13 year olds at selected
primary and secondary schools, to support ‘school champions’ in
schools, to harness local authority and public health resources available for
walking and cycling and to make links between schools and the wider
walking and cycling community.
Place in organisational structure:
The postholder will be one of a national team of officers and will report to
the Regional Supervisor, Bike It, South West. There will be close liaison
with local authority and public health staff and their delivery partners,
Sustrans regional staff and the Sustrans Schools, Children and Young
People team, based in Bristol.

1. To measure baseline pupil walking and cycling activity for home to
school and other walking and cycling journeys and carry out follow
up surveys at selected schools each year.
2. To promote walking and cycling activities, working alongside the
local authority / Primary Care Trust and local authority services (such
as cycle training, pedestrian training and school travel plans).
3. To provide stories and information for Sustrans press office (who will
liaise with other media partners), and other Sustrans publications.
4. To compile progress reports and presentations for project
5. To provide advice, information and other support for ‘school
champions’ – who include teachers, parents, governors, pupils and

organisation's health and safety management system including any
project or department specific requirements.
11. To carry out other duties as required.
The postholder will be one of a team of Bike It Officers based in the South
West and will work at the nominated office base, although there may be
opportunities to work from home at times. Occasional overnight stays
away from home, weekend and late working may be required.
Employment will be conditional on clearance by the appropriate CRB
