Introduction
Thank you for your interest in working with WaterAid.
This is a really exciting time in our development and if you join us you will be helping
to deliver our ambitious plans for the future as we enter the third year of our Global
Strategy.
The importance of water and sanitation to overcoming poverty is clear and the
challenge huge with almost 800 million people in the world still without access to clean
water and 2.5 billion lacking sanitation facilities. To address this we have set ourselves
an ambitious Global Strategy with goals to grow significantly in influence and scale. By
2015 we aim to provide services to over 25 million people (via partners) in 30 countries
across Africa, Asia, the Pacific region and Central and South America. We’re also
aiming to reach over 100 million via our influencing work. In order to do this our global
income will need to double, over the 6 year strategy, to £100m per year
Key to our success will be our ability to maximise on the talents of a diverse global
workforce. We employ almost 750 people globally, and have been recognised in the
Third Sector Excellence awards, Sunday Times Top 100 employers list and as an
Investor in People.
Achieving our strategy depends on courageous, empowering, accountable
leadership and our ability to recruit, develop and retain talented people. To be
effective as a growing organisation we need excellent team work supported by clear,
consistent people management practices. We need to underpin this with an
organisational environment that facilitates high performance and maximises
effectiveness. These aims are reflected in our Global People Strategy which gives
us an ambitious framework for delivery.
The People and Organisational Development Team (The People Team) plays a
critical role in helping WaterAid realise its goals. We lead on the development and
implementation of strategies that ensure that WaterAid people are aligned and
engaged with our aims and objectives, and that they have the skills and
opportunities to maximise the impact they can make. We work with managers across
the organisation to support great people management and to create a high
performing environment. Our remit includes strategic internal communications,
facilities management and support to the governance arrangements of WaterAid as
an international federation.
To enhance this we are in the process of more clearly aligning our support to
specific business areas as a way of really unlocking high performance. The UK
People Team provides support to UK based staff and managers and the People
Business Partners within the team will engage with managers and staff to deliver
performance though excellent people management. Due to maternity leave we are
looking for an innovative and resourceful person who is passionate about the

contribution good people management can make in enabling us to get water and
sanitation to the world’s poorest people, to help us embed the role of Business
