Brisbane offers many exciting activities and things to do especially during the festive and sporting seasons. From January right through to December there are a host of events that take place such as the Brisbane International Tennis Tournament that kicks off in January at the Queensland State Tennis Centre in Tennyson which is run over ten days. Then there are the Australia Day Brisbane celebrations that take place in January annually which hosts informal and formal celebrations on the foreshore and in the parks.

Brisbane offers many exciting activities and things to do especially during the festive and
sporting seasons. From January right through to December there are a host of events that
take place such as the Brisbane International Tennis Tournament that kicks off in January at
the Queensland State Tennis Centre in Tennyson which is run over ten days. Then there are
the Australia Day Brisbane celebrations that take place in January annually which hosts
informal and formal celebrations on the foreshore and in the parks. Not to be missed is the
St Patrick’s Day parade which is held annually in March as the Irish know how to make t
most of this day where everyone joins in and drinks Guinness beer and dresses up in green.

From May through to June Brisbane’s racing club hosts the winter racing carnival, where the
horse racing in held at both Doomben Racecourse and Eagle Farm and many of the Brisbane
hotels are located nearby these prestige events where you can see all the high end
fashionistas strutting around and enjoying the fantastic weather. Annually in mid May there
is the Paniyiri Greek festival which showcases Greek dancing, culture, fireworks, food, music
and singing and a host of Greek entertainment. This festival is held at Musgrave Park and at
the Greek club of which is both close to many of the hotels in Brisbane. A huge event for
runners, is the full Brisbane 42Km marathon which is held annually in August and draws
participants from far and wide. Included is a half marathon of 21Km, a beginners 2 Km and
plenty events for the children to enjoy. Then in mid August there is the EKKA Brisbane show
which is similar to the Royal Melbourne show and the Sydney Easter show where is there a
host of exhibitions, fun, music, show bags, animals and plenty of food. Annually every
August the Brisbane boat show takes place over four days and showcases leisure and
recreational boats as well as marine accessories. During the month of September the River
Festival and River Fire is held whereby fireworks are choreographed in conjunction with
musical celebrations which lasts for three weeks.

This festival in particular highlights the significance and importance to the Brisbane River
which is the lifeblood of Brisbane city and these celebrations take place around South Bank
parklands area. The festival is opened with a light show and lasers which lights up the river
and the city. This festival is spectacular and many people pack up picnic baskets and head
down to Kangaroo Point, Highgate Hill or the Botanical Gardens that offer fantastic views of
the fireworks displays. These spectacular displays can be seen from many of the hotel
balconies as well.
