Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma. Adam and Nancy Ann Eventually produced ten offspring: Mary, Barnett
(Barnabass), Elizabeth, Nancy, William, Sarah, Anna, Adam, Chesley, and John. Adam spent the remainder of
his life in Grainger County, living into his eighties, dying sometime between 1852 and 1854. (Probably in 1853
for Adam's will was written on February 4, 1852 and probated January 12, 1854.) His wife, Nancy Ann, living
with her daughter, Sarah, lived into her nineties. Adam was a Miller by trade and his ninth child, Chesley, later
acquired the reputation of being an excellent Millwright. The following paragraph appeared in Dr. E. C. Idol's
book, 'Descendants of Adam and Nancy Rice Idol'. 'The Thornhill, TN post office was establidhed March 17,
1836....in 1898, the office was moved about two miles east of Thorn Hill and called IDOL, named for Dr. Willis
Idol. (Dr. Idol was the grandson of the elder Adam Idol). In 1932, the post office was moved back to its earlier

    34. Jacob Pedersen Mueller, born 1705; died 1745. He was the son of 68. Ulrich Mueller.

Notes for Jacob Pedersen Mueller:
The Meuler or Mueller family was a Quaker family from Zweibrucken, Germany. Jacob, Christian, Philip, and
Martin MUELLER immigrated to PA with their father Ulrich MUELLER. The family stopped in York Co., PA
for a season. Two of the brothers settled permanently in PA. One moved to MD and Jacob moved to
Shenandoah Co., VA. Jacob came thru Packhorse Ford, just east of Shepardstown, which is now WV. He
married Barbara. It is not known when or where they married. In about 1752, which was shortly after moving to
Shenandoah Co., VA, Jacob received a grant from Lord Fairfax. Such a transaction was referred to as receiving a
grant, but except as a reward for military service, the land was generally purchased. At that time, Lord Fairfax
owned a great deal of what is now VA and, perhaps WV. This grant was for 400 acres on the Narrow Passage
River near the border of Frederick and Augusta Counties, VA. In 1927, Dr. J. L. Miller, (Mueller having become
Miller over the years) had in his possession the original land grant document from Lord Fairfax. In addition to
this grant, Jacob purchased from Joseph Helm 400 acres for 100 pounds and five shillings. During the next four
years Jacob purchased another 400 acres and received another grant for 740 acres from Lord Fairfax. Thus he
became owner of 1,540 acres of land. Evidently he was a farsighted man, as he took the land and laid part of it
into lots for the town of Muellerstadt. In 1772 the name of the town was changed to Woodstock, VA. Jacob
leased his lots for from 20 shillings to 20 pounds. The lease holder was required to erect a building with either a
stone or brick chimney to retain the lease. Jacob, Sr. and Barbara were parents of eight children: Ulrich, Jacob,
Jr., Barbara, Susannah, Christian, Mary, Martin, and Elizabeth.
Most of this information was obtained from a document on the Miller family by Dr. J. L. Miller and published in
the "History of Early Virginia".
These notes were written by Sue Lessenberry.

Child of Jacob Pedersen Mueller is:
17 i. Susannah Mueller (Miller), born Abt. 1757 in PA; died Abt. 1800 in Greenbriar, WV; married Peter
Wolfensbarger July 26, 1777 in Shenandoah, VA.

     36. John Barnett Idol, born May 01, 1735 in Germany; died February 01, 1786 in Wallburg, NC. He was

     37. Elizabeth Meier, born in Bucks Co., PA; died 1798 in Wallburg, NC. She was the daughter of 74.
Conrad Meier.

Notes for John Barnett Idol:
Early history of The idols of Tennessee; Compiled by E. C. Idol Sr.
Johann Bernhart Eitel (Sometimes spelled Eytel) was born in Germany in 1735. At the age of 17 he migrated to
America, arriving in Pennsylvania, Sept. 23 1752, along with 105 other immigrants, aboard the ship "St.
Andrew", whose captain was James Abercrombie.
Like many of the immigrants of that period, young Johann was a redemptioner. Redemptioners were immigrants
who were unable to pay money for their voyage to America and received free passage on condition that they agree
to be sold, on arrival, to settlers for whom they worked as servants until their passage money had been paid off.
Then they were freed, given a suit of clothes, sometimes money and land, and became settlers in their own right.
Johann was indentured to a family in Doylestomn, Bucks Co., PA.
His servitude completed, Johann settled in Bucks Co., PA and in 1760 married Elizabeth Meier, daughter of
Conrad Meier of Winkle, Switzerland. During the first ten years of their marriage, they remained in PA, where 5
of their 8 children were born. Then in 1770, receiving a land grant from King George III, Johann moved his
family to the Abbotts Creek section in the colony of North Carolina, a site not many miles from the present town
of Kernersville, NC. Here he and his family farmed and kept a tavern for travelers. Three more children were
born after the move to NC and, during the early part of his tenure there, he changed his name to John Barnett Idol,
calling himself Barnett.

                                                              8
Barnett sided with the colonists during the Revolutionary War, his oldest son, Jacob Idol, saw active service in
the Colonial Army.
Through additional grants and shrewd purchases, Barnett Idol became one of the larger land-holders in his area.
Upon his death in 1786, he left well over a hundred acres of land to each of his eight children. He is buried in the
Bethany Reformed Church Cemetery near Wallburg, NC. His widow lived until 1798 and, upon her death, was
buried beside her husband.

John Jr., an infant. They settled in Earl Township, Lebanon Co., Pennsylvania. About 1736 the family moved
about 10 miles to the northwest into Heidelberg Township, Lebanon Co. He was naturalized April 11, 1744, and
he immediately applied for 350 acres. The survey shows 671 acres. John died on this land intestate prior to July
6, 1761. His estate was settled September 28, 1761. He was baptized October 19, 1721 in Mattstall, Alsace.
John and Margaretha moved a few miles away to Langensoullzbach (LDS 717, 247) where these records were
found: On September 8, 1727, Soultzbach. Buried Maria Ursula, little daughter age 3 years 10 days. On June 1,
1727, Soultzbach, Joannes Wolffsberger (farmer) and his wife Margaretha Enszminger, a little son baptized and
named Jacob Frederick.
An investigation by Lawrence Jones was made in April 1992 in Lebanon Co. and no record of the burial of John,
Sr. was found. There are those that believe that John, Sr. is buried on the south side of Margaretha, but no
evidence of this was found. Since John, Sr. died after 1761 and Margaretha was buried in 1777, this is doubtful.
The Wolfersbergers, Schaeffers, Troutmanns and Millers were the pillars of the German Reformed Church in
Schaefferstown. Some of the Wolfersbergers that were members of that church prior to 1800 were John and wife

Much of the history of the Wolfersberger family is found in the "History of the County of Lebanon, PA" by

Researcher Lawrence Jones (former President of the Wolfensberger Family Association) shows her mother was
Margaretha Hoerth.
Another Researcher shows that Phillip Ensminger or Entzminger was married twice, and that Elizabetha Quirin
was the mother of Anna Ensminger.

of Switzerland, Alsace, and Pennsylvania. There is a copy filed with the Family History Library, 35 north West
Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. The first two paragraphs of Mr. Bell's publication are as follows: "The surname,
of Swiss origin, has been spelled many ways, perhaps fifty. An unusual spelling is Oufensberger. In Switzerland
it is WOLFENSBERGER, in Pennsylvania WOLFERSBERGER. One branch in Ohio changed the surname to
SPARGER.
The name originated in the village of Wolfensberg, about 25 km east of Zurich. In 1233 there is record of
Baldebert von WOLFENSBERG. The name WOLFENSBERGER first appears in 1446. There were many
families of this name in Switzerland in early days. In German the middle name is the call name. John George was
George, Anna Margaret was Margaret.

Notes for Hans Zu Wolfsberg:
This material has been copied from the Wolfensberger Family Association material online.
"The WOLFENSBERGER family had its beginning in the area of Bauma, Switzerland. The first family member
of record was Knight Baldebert of Wolfsberg. Wolfsberg was a settlement on the mountain southeast of what is
now Bauma, Switzerland. Knight Baldebert had his home in a castle there. The castle was known as the
Wolfsberg Castle. The castle has been long gone and only the site where it stood remains. Knight Baldebert
evidently occupied this castle from 1233 to 1259. He was from Rapperswil and a subject of Griefenberg, a
possession of the Counts of Rapperswil, who held feudal tenure from St. Gallen. Knight Baldebert and probably
others of his family endowed the monaster at Ruti. The family coat of arms was held in this monaster and many
of the family now lie buried there. Knight Baldebert probably received his knighthood from leading a group on a
crusade to the Holy Land. Our own Dr. Wolf WOLFENSBERGER of Syracruse University has much more on
the political and social life in Switzerland and the surrounding areas in those days."

Hans Wolfensberger, the weaver, was admitted to citizenship in the City of Zurich, 22 June 1446.
