                                                                                                This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee
                                                                                                RC/5, Radiocommunications—Infrastructure, and is the result of a consensus among the
                                                                                                representatives on the Joint Committee that it be produced as an Australian Standard. This Standard
                                                                                                is now the responsibility of CT/2, Broadcasting and Related Services. This Standard is Part 1 of a
                                                                                                series on consumer television interfaces which, when complete, will comprise the following:
                                                                                                Part 1: PAL RF (this Standard)
                                                                                                Part 2: Analogue baseband
                                                                                                Part 3: Digital interfaces
                                                                                                This Standard addresses the parameters and requirements for interfacing of ancillary
                                                                                                equipment (such as video cassette recorders, video cameras, subscription TV set-top units

                                                                                                and electronic games) with television receivers, to ensure compatibility and acceptable
                                                                                                operational performance.
                                                                                                The objective of this Standard is to provide specifications to enable designers,
                                                                                                manufacturers, installers, testers and maintainers of equipment and systems to meet those
                                                                                                parameters and requirements.
                                                                                                The term ‘normative’ has been used in this Standard to define the application of the
                                                                                                appendices to which it applies. A ‘normative’ appendix is an integral part of a Standard.
                                                                                                In January 1997, the IEC began numbering its publications from 60000 by adding 60000 to
                                                                                                the number of each publication. This coordinates IEC numbering with ISO numbering.
                                                                                                During the transition period, an IEC document may be identified by its new or its old
                                                                                                number (e.g. IEC 60050 or IEC 50).
                                                                                                Statements expressed in mandatory terms in notes to tables are deemed to be requirements
                                                                                                of this Standard.

                                                                                               This Standard defines parameters of the interfaces and supporting leads to be used between

                                                                                               Australian PAL B broadcasting standards.
                                                                                                 NOTE: The Australian PAL broadcasting standards are detailed in the Australian Broadcasting
                                                                                                 Authority Technical Planning Guidelines, August 1995.
                                                                                               This Standard gives the RF requirements for signals between devices, allowing consumers
                                                                                               to interconnect various pieces of equipment while maintaining satisfactory performance
                                                                                               overall.
                                                                                               The content is presented in two parts. The ‘output’ specifications cover the equipment
                                                                                               containing the modulation or sending side of the interface, while the ‘input’ specifications
                                                                                               cover the reception or display side of the interface (see Figure 1). The transmission
                                                                                               specifications also contain information related to the interconnection of multiple items of
                                                                                               sending equipment feeding a single receiver.
