New 6-row units offer speed with accuracy, simplicity

RACINE, Wis. (Feb. 14, 2007) – Two new six-row units have joined the Case IH Early
Riser® 1200 Series planter line, providing industry-leading planting accuracy for cotton,
vegetable and traditional row-crop growers.
Growers benefit from the ability to accurately place valuable seed in a timely
fashion, says Alan Forbes, Case IH product marketing manager for planters. “Hitting
weather windows and planting accurately isn’t a ‘pick one’ proposition. That’s why Early
Riser planters are engineered for both speed and accuracy,” Forbes says. “These
planters help growers achieve higher quality and better yielding plant stands due to fast,
uniform seedling emergence and uniform seed spacing.”
The new Early Riser 1200 six-row mounted units are designed in row widths to fit
the needs of cotton and specialty crops for intermediate-sized row-crop farmers. The
wide configuration, with 36-, 38- and 40-inch row spacings, delivers accurate seed
placement to match up with row tillage and cotton picker sizes. The narrow, 30-inch row
configuration handles planting requirements for many specialty as well as traditional

More detailed specifications
The superior performance of the Early Riser 1200 derives from two proven
technologies – the Case IH Early Riser® row unit and the Advanced Seed Meter™ (ASM)
system. “These two components work together,” Forbes says, “and that's what makes
this Early Riser a leap forward in productivity.”
Narrow offset double disk openers on the row unit reduce residue hair-pinning in
the furrow, improve seed-to-soil contact and eliminate the need for coulters in many
conditions. The units feature pull-type, equalizing depth gauge wheels for better depth
control, especially in rough terrain.
“The Early Riser’s unique double-disk closing system delivers moist soil over the
seed from both sides,” Forbes says. “Then chevron tread press wheels apply a precise
amount of packing pressure to achieve optimum seed-to-soil contact and faster, more
uniform emergence.”

Advanced Seed Meter advantages
The Case IH ASM design helps growers get the most from their seed purchases.
“The seed is placed on target,” Forbes says. “And the ASM system provides the best
seed singulation and population accuracy, even at faster speeds.”
The ASM system simplifies seed size selection. With corn, for example, one seed
disc and one vacuum setting are recommended for all seed sizes and shapes. Vacuum
tweaks and meter calibrations are now a thing of the past. “The ASM has no favorite
seed size,” Forbes notes. “Large or small, flat or round, the Early Riser 1200 Series
plants with the same accuracy. No adjustments are needed when changing seed sizes.”
Placement accuracy, even at higher speeds, is based on an 11.8-inch seed disc
that rotates more slowly while carrying a larger number of seeds. Slower rotation results
in a more controlled release and delivery.
Superior seed singulation is achieved due to a patented three-spool seed
singulation design that eliminates doubles and ensures one seed per cell.
