,It is pleasant to see that the development of the valve industry has been
bringing in benefits to all aspects. And it is appreciated to choose a proper
one to make good use of it. Generally speaking, there are some properties
that should be kept in mind while selecting the required valve. So, what are
the major properties when people manufacture or select the valve?Firstly,
the seal performance should be taken into account which refers to the ability
to prevent the leakage. It is important. Otherwise, the leakage would lead
the machine to fail to work, even lead to some industrial accidents.
Especially, there are three points that need much more attention. They are
the attachment between the opening and closing device and the two seal
surfaces of the valve seat, the space between the valve stem and stuffing
and the joint between the valve body and the valve cover. The previous one
would influence the ability of cutting off the medium and the latter two ones
would cause the industrial pollution or some worse consequences. No matter
what, the seal performance rises to be important when evaluating and selecting
the valve. And as we all know that the valve is used to control the medium,
the effects caused by the medium need our attention. When the medium comes
across the valve, the resistance would occur. Then, the medium would consume
the energy more or less to overcome the resistance. As a result, a better
valve should take this factor into consideration to reduce the resistance
as much as possible. Then, the force which is also needed to open or close
the valve should be driven attention to. The force is expected to endure the
pressure caused by the sealing surfaces and the resistance caused valve stem
and the stuffing and other attachments. And it should be mentioned that the
force is changeable when opening and closing the device. To reduce the moment
would be a good choice. And the speed to open and close the valve should be
designed according to the specific specifications.Besides, there are some
other properties which are significant to the performance of the valve. The
sensitivity and reliability refer to the abilities related to the reflection
of the changeable medium. They are especially important to the, reducing
valve, control valve and security valve. In words, there are many aspects
related to the designing, manufacturing and selecting of the various valve.
Moreover, the service life is also important from the economic consideration.
Above all, do choose a good and proper valve would do great favors.,,Fleck
started with a simple idea in the mid '50s and now controls one-quarter of
the residential water softener valve market and is even more prevalent in
commercial applications.,Control valves manage water flow and initiate
regeneration of the resin bed. They are the heart of the water softening
machine and cost the most to replace if they fail. Fleck valves are made of
glass-fiber-reinforced Noryl plastic or lead-free brass. Tests by the company
have shown that they can last 10,000 regeneration cycles. In actual use, this
works out to over 25 years of water softeningThe reliable Fleck 5600, 2510,

second tank of softened water is used.,The Fleck 9000 twin demand control

delivering controlled up-flow backwash, down-flow brining, slow rinse, rapid
rinse, timed brine refill and down-flow service.,With a continuous flow rate

meter reads water usage electronically and during a power loss, NOVRAM
provides valve status and memory backup. The Simple Electronics (SXT) control
provides easy, step-by-step programming and an LED displays the time of day
and soft water remaining.,Compared with manual valve, the control valve is
quite different. Especially when it is installed, it should be often
maintained in order to operate normally and prolong the usage life. Here the
article will introduce you some suggestions to prolong the service life of
the control valve:Firstly, operate widespread. The control valve should be
operated within the maximum opening at the beginning, such as 80%. Thereby,
the erosion caused by air or impact will happen on the head of the valve case.
With the destroy of the case and the increase of flow rate, the opening of
the valve should be reduced step by step, until the whole case is completely
used and the root of the case and the sealing face are destroyed. At the same
time, when working widespread, the gap for throttling is big and thus the
erosion is quite weak. To some degree, it can prolong the operation
time.Secondly, narrow the diameter. Through narrowing the diameter of the
valve, it can increase the work opening. There are two ways to realize the
purpose: (a). people can change another valve with a smaller diameter. For
example, the DN32 can be changed into the DN25. (b). there is no need to change
the valve body but people can replace a small valve seat. In general, both
of them can prolong the operation time of the.Thirdly, Change the flow
direction. When the flow direction of open-type is in line with the opening
direction, the erosion will occur on the sealing face and thus the root of
the case and the sealing face of the valve seat will suffer from destroying
very soon. While, if the flow direction of close-type is in line with the
closing direction, the erosion will occur after the throttle and under the
sealing face of the valve seat. Thereby, it can prolong the service time
through protecting the sealing face and the case root. It is suggested when
the valve, used as open-type, faces the serious erosion, people can change
the flow direction, which can prolong the usage time.Fourthly, Replace
special material. In order to prevent cavitation and impact, it is a better
way to adopt cavitation-resistant and impact-proofed special material to make
the throttling element. There are some materials that can be selected, such
as 6YC-1, A4 steel, stellite, hard metal and so on. If people want to increase
its erosion-resistance, people can choose some material with the physical
and mechanical properties, such as rubber, ceramics, hastelloy and so on.Last
but not least, change the structure of the control valve. Changing the
structure of valve or selecting the valve with longer usage time can realize
the purpose. For example, people can select multilevel dropping valve,
anti-cavitation valve or erosion-proof valve.,,(6033, 'Early life and
education Reubens was born Paul Rubenfeld in Peekskill New York and grew up
in Sarasota Florida where his parents Judy and Milton owned a lamp store
Reubens spent a significant amount of his childhood in Oneonta New York His
mother was a teacher and his father an automobile salesperson who had flown
for Britain s Royal Air Force and for the U S Army Air Forces in World War
II later becoming one of the founding pilots of the Israeli Air Force during
the 1948 war of independence Paul has two younger siblings Luke born 1958
who is a dog trainer and Abby born 1953 who has been described by The Tennessean
as an attorney mother lesbian and board member of the American Civil Liberties
Union of Tennessee She is also an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University
Law School and former chair of the Individual Rights and Responsibilities
section of the American Bar Association and of the National Lesbian and Gay
Law Association As a child Reubens would frequent the Ringling Bros and Barnum
amp Bailey Circus whose headquarters was in Sarasota during the winter The
circus atmosphere sparked Reubens interest in entertainment and influenced
his later work Reubens also loved to watch reruns of I Love Lucy which made
him want to make people laugh At age five Reubens asked his father to build
him a stage where he and his siblings would put up plays Reubens attended
Sarasota High School where he was named president of the National Thespian
Society He also got in Northwestern University s summer program for gifted
high school students and joined the local Asolo Theater and Players of
Sarasota Theater appearing in a variety of plays After graduating he attended
Boston University and started auditioning for acting schools He was turned
down by several schools including Juilliard and twice by Carnegie Mellon
before being accepted at the California Institute of the Arts and moving to
California where he started working in restaurant kitchens and as a Fuller
Brush salesman In the 1970s Reubens performed at local comedy clubs and made
four guest appearances on The Gong Show as part of a boy girl act he had
developed with Charlotte McGinnis called The Hilarious Betty and Eddie He
soon joined the Los Angeles based improvisational comedy team The Groundlings
and remained a member for six years working with Bob McClurg John Paragon
Susan Barnes and Phil Hartman Hartman and Reubens became friends often writing
and working on material together In 1980 he had a small part as a waiter in
The Blues Brothers Pee wee Herman Main article Pee wee Herman Reubens giving
an interview in character at the 1988 Academy Awards The character of Pee
wee Herman first originated during a 1978 improvisation exercise with The
Groundlings where Reubens came up with the idea of a man who wanted to be
a comic but was so inept at telling jokes that it was obvious to the audience
that he would never make it Fellow Groundling Phil Hartman would afterwards
help Reubens develop the character while another Groundling John Paragon
would help write the show Despite having been compared to other famous
characters such as Herg s Tintin and Collodi s Pinocchio Reubens says that
there is no specific source for Pee wee but rather a collection of ideas Pee
wee s voice originated in 1970 when Reubens appeared in a production of Life
With Father where he was cast as one of the most obnoxious characters in the
play for which Reubens adopted a cartoon like way of speaking that would become
Pee wee s Pee wee s name is a mixture of a one inch Pee Wee brand harmonica
Reubens had as a child while Herman was the surname of an energetic boy Reubens
knew from his youth The first small grey suit Pee wee ever wore had been
handmade for director and founder of the Groundlings Gary Austin who passed
it on to Reubens while someone handed him the little kid bow tie before a
show The Pee wee Herman Show Main article The Pee wee Herman Show Reubens
auditioned for Saturday Night Live for the season but Gilbert Gottfried who
was a close friend of the show s producer and had the same acting style as
Reubens got the place Reubens was so angry and bitter that he decided he would
borrow money and start his own show in Los Angeles using the character he
had been developing during the last few years Pee wee Herman With the help
of other Groundlings like John Paragon Phil Hartman and Lynne Marie Stewart
Pee wee acquired a small group of followers and Reubens took his show to The
Roxy Theatre where The Pee wee Herman Show ran for five sellout months doing
midnight shows for adults and weekly matinees for children moving into the
mainstream when HBO aired The Pee wee Herman Show in 1981 as part of their
series On Location Reubens also appeared as Pee wee in the 1980 film Cheech
amp Chong s Next Movie Reubens act had mainly positive reactions and quickly
acquired a group of fans despite being described as bizarre and Reubens being
described as the weirdest comedian around Pee wee was both corny and hip
retrograde and avant garde When Pee wee s fame started growing Reubens started
to move away from the spotlight keeping his name under wraps and making all
his public appearance and interviews in character while billing Pee wee as
playing himself Reubens was trying to get the public to think that that was
a real person Later on he would even prefer his parents be known only as Honey
Herman and Herman Herman In the early and mid 1980s Reubens made several guest
appearances on Late Night with David Letterman as Pee wee Herman which gave
Pee wee an even bigger following During the mid 1980s Reubens traveled the
United States with a whole new The Pee wee Herman Show playing notably at
the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis Caroline s in New York City and in 1984
in front of a full Carnegie Hall Pee wee s Big Adventure Main article Pee
wee s Big Adventure The success of The Pee wee Herman Show prompted Warner
Bros to hire Reubens to write a script for a full length Pee wee Herman film
Reubens original idea was to do a remake of Pollyanna which Reubens claims
is his favorite film Half way through writing the script Reubens noticed
everyone at Warner Bros had a bike with them which inspired Reubens to start
on a new script with Phil Hartman When Reubens and the producers of Pee wee
s Big Adventure saw Tim Burton s work on Vincent and Frankenweenie they decided
Burton would be an excellent director for their film The film tells the story
of Pee wee Herman embarking on nation wide adventure in search of his stolen
bicycle and it went on to gross 40 940 662 domestically recouping five times
of its 7 million budget making it a financial success At the time of release
in 1985 the film received mixed reviews but Pee wee s Big Adventure developed
into a cult film Pee wee s Playhouse Main article Pee wee s Playhouse After
seeing the success of Pee Wee s Big Adventure the CBS network approached
Reubens with an ill received cartoon series proposal In 1986 CBS agreed to
sign Reubens to act produce and direct his live action children s program
Pee wee s Playhouse with a budget of 325 000 per episode the same price as
a prime time sitcom and no creative interference from CBS although CBS did
request a few minor changes throughout the years After casting actors like
Laurence Fishburne and S Epatha Merkerson production began in New York City
Cowboy Curtis Laurence Fishburne and Pee wee on the 1990 episode Camping Out
Playhouse was designed as an educational yet entertaining and artistic show
for children and despite being greatly influenced by 1950s shows Reubens
watched as a child like The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show The Mickey Mouse Club
Captain Kangaroo and Howdy Doody it quickly acquired a dual audience of kids
and grownups Reubens always trying to make of Pee wee a positive role model
was after making a significantly moral show one that would teach children
the ethics of reciprocity Reubens believed that children liked the Playhouse
because it was fast paced colorful and never talked them down while parents
liked the Playhouse because it reminded them of the past In 1987 Reubens
provided the voice of REX the main robot in the George Lucas produced
Disneyland attraction Star Tours and reprised the role of Pee wee Herman in
a cameo appearances in the film Back to the Beach and TV show Sesame Street
the latter of which made a cameo in Playhouse Right after the success of Pee
wee s Big Adventure Reubens began working with Paramount Pictures on a sequel
entitled Big Top Pee wee Reubens and George McGrath s script was directed
by Grease s director Randal Kleiser The film was not as successful as its
predecessor receiving mild reviews and doing half as well in the box office
earning only 15 million Reubens attended 1988 Academy Awards with Top co star
Valeria Golino which stirred rumours that the two were dating The following
year Reubens exchanged vows at a mock wedding presided by Imelda Marcos in
Shangri La Doris Duke s mansion in Honolulu Hawaii with Duke s adopted daughter
Chandi Heffner Pee wee s Playhouse aired from September 13 1986 until November
10 1990 Reubens had originally agreed to do two more seasons after the third
and when CBS asked Reubens about the possibility of a sixth season he declined
wanting to take a couple of sabbatical years Reubens had been suffering from
burnout from playing Pee wee full time and for the last few years had been
warning reporters that Pee wee was temporary and that he had other ideas he
would like to work on Both parties mutually agreed to end the show after five
seasons which included 45 episodes and a Christmas Special Playhouse garnered
22 Emmy Awards most of them in the Creative Arts Emmy Award category Pee wee
s legacy Reubens had not always thought of his character as one for children
but sometime during the mid 1980s he started forming Pee wee into the best
role model he possibly could making of his show a morally positive show that
cared about issues like racial diversity Reubens was also careful on what
should be associated to Pee wee Being a heavy smoker he went to great lengths
never to be photographed with a cigarette in his mouth he even refused to
endorse candy bars and other kinds of junk food while trying to come out with
his own sugar free cereal Ralston Purina Pee wee Chow cereal a project that
died after a blind test Reubens in 1985 receiving Harvard Lampoon s Elmer
Award for lifetime achievement in comedy With his positive attitude and
quirkiness Pee wee became an instant cult figure earning a star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame by 1989 and successfully building a Pee wee franchise
with toys clothes and other items generating more than 25 million at its peak
in 1988 Reubens also published a book as Pee wee in 1989 called Travels with
Pee Wee CBS aired reruns of the Playhouse until July 1991 when Reubens was
arrested pulling out from their schedule the last two remaining reruns Fox
Family Channel briefly aired reruns of the Playhouse in 1998 In early July
2006 Cartoon Network began running a teaser promo during its Adult Swim lineup
A later press release and many other promos confirmed that the show s 45
original episodes would nightly air from Monday to Thursday starting on that
date Playhouse attracted 1 5 million viewers nightly In 2007 TV Guide named
the Playhouse one of its top 10 cult classics of all time Several children
s television personas cite Pee wee Herman as inspiration including Blue s
Clues s Steve Burns and SpongeBob SquarePants s Stephen Hillenburg In November
2004 all 45 episodes of the Playhouse plus six episodes that had never before
been released in home video were released on DVD split between two box set
collection Reubens planned to re release the DVDs with audio commentary by
the following year but this has yet to materialize Pee wee s small glen plaid
suits seemed ridiculous during the 1980s but since the late 1990s they have
made him a style icon with fashion houses and designers like Christopher
Bailey Ennio Capasa Miuccia Prada Viktor amp Rolf and Thom Browne creating
cut tight suits with high armholes and short trousers that have been compared
to Pee wee s In early 2007 Nike released a collection of Nike SB sneakers
called Fallen Heroes The collection was loosely inspired by Milli Vanilli
MC Hammer Vanilla Ice and Pee wee Herman Pee wee s sneakers use a grey and
white color scheme with red detail and an illustration on the insole of a
man in suit sitting alone in a theatre with his hand on his lap suggesting
Reubens 1991 theatre arrest Reubens has mentioned he has plans for a museum
which would contain many of the Playhouse sets and props he still owns 1991
arrest and retreat from public eye In July 1991 while visiting relatives
Reubens was arrested in Sarasota Florida for masturbating publicly in an adult
theater while watching a triple bill of Catalina Five O Tiger Shark Nurse
Nancy and Turn up the Heat Detectives would periodically visit pornographic
theatres and observe detective ese for spying on members of the audience
arresting those engaged in indecent exposure After having arrested other men
a detective who had been observing Reubens stopped him while he was on his
way out While detectives looked at his driver s license Reubens told them
I m Pee wee Herman and then offered to do a children s benefit for the sheriff
s office to take care of this The next day after a local reporter recognized
Reubens name Reubens attorney made the same offer to the Sarasota Herald
Tribune in exchange for withholding the story This was not Reubens'),,To learn
how to live a long life, we should take a look at the major causes of death
and then try to avoid or negate those causes. Here are the major causes of
death and what we can do about it:1.Heart DiseaseAlmost one third of all deaths
are from heart disease, often from a fatal heart attack. We can't move to
Japan and eat fish and rice for a long life.Well, maybe some of us can, but
that is not a solutions for most of us.We can't move to Italy and live on
a healthy Mediterranean Sea diet either, at least not most of us. But we can
look at what folks eat to live longer.During the Korean War, the advance of
heart disease was evident. While WW II servicemen had clean arteries, Korean
War servicemen (I was one of them) had partially occluded arteries. However,
those who were prisoners of war, had their arteries nice and open again.
Starving on a fish, vegetable and rice diet is good for the heart. But before
we talk about diet, let's look at heredity.I have heart disease, had a heart
attack and I've had heart surgery twice. I have the aortic valve of a very
kind pig. Yet, I'm 76 years old and still kicking. When I was a boy, my Uncle
Ben died at age 50 of a heart attack at his desk. His children suffered from
heart disease. My older brother, a very healthy eater, has had bypass surgery,
but he had it at a much older age than I did.My sister died from heart disease
but at an older age.We should look at our family history and see if heart
disease is a major cause of death. We should look at that history at a young
age.Once you know that heart disease is prevalent in your family, you should
inform your doctor of this fact so that you can take action to diminish the
threat to your life.If heart disease is prevalent in your family, you should
be monitored for heart function. You should change your life style to prevent
heart disease. That means exercise, eating more fish than meat, eating fruits
and vegetables and nuts and grains.I suggest that you go to the American Heart
Association site to learn more about heart disease. Change your diet, stop
using tobacco, lower your alcohol content and engage in daily
exercise.Changing your eating and exercise patterns can reverse heart
disease. Remember those Korean War prisoners of war.Your doctor can describe
effective drugs to lower cholesterol levels generated by your own
body.2.Cancer:Cancer is another cause of death. Many families have a history
of cancer. We have some families like that where we live. Cancer can bring
death rapidly in young people, people in their thirties, even younger. As with
heart disease, if your family has a cancer history, then your doctor needs
to know this.Cancer must be detected by medical scanning. Except for skin
cancers, most cancers are not obvious until it is too late. As a person should
know the signs of heart disease, we all should know the signs of cancer.I
go to a dermatologist every few months. He sometimes takes a biopsy of my
skin and usually finds a basal cell carcinoma. He sees pre-cancer indications
and uses his can of liquid nitrogen to burn them away.Over the years, I have
had many surgeries to remove basal cells. So have a number of my friends in
this area. The main skin cancer threat is melanoma, a deadly form of cancer
that can be sniffed out by some dogs.Colon cancer can be detected by screening.
So can prostate cancer tendencies. As you get older, you need more
screening.Go to the American Cancer Society site to learn more about cancer
detection, avoidance and treatment.3.StrokeI remember the death snore of my
grandmother after she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. She died the next day.My
father had multiple strokes in his mid-eighties and he died of a stroke at
age eighty-eight.So I do have a family history here and my oldest son who
is a neurosurgeon keeps his eye on me.Here is the governments information
on Stroke Prevention (stroke/prevention.htm):Stroke PreventionAll people
can take steps to lower their risk for stroke, whether they have had a stroke
or not. Things you can do to lower the risk of stroke include steps to prevent
and control high blood pressure, heart disease, and other chronic
conditions.Prevent and control high blood pressure:,High blood pressure is
easily checked. It can be controlled with lifestyle changes and with medicines
when needed. You can work with your doctor to treat high blood pressure and
bring it down. Lifestyle actions such as healthy diet, regular physical
activity, not smoking, and healthy weight will also help you to keep normal
blood pressure levels. All adults should have their blood pressure checked
on a regular basis. See our high blood pressure fact sheet.Prevent and control
diabetes:,People with diabetes have a higher risk of stroke, but they can
also work to reduce their risk. Further, recent studies suggest that all
people can take steps to reduce their risk for diabetes. These include weight
loss and regular physical activity. For more information about diabetes, see
CDC's diabetes program Web site.No tobacco:,Smoking can affect a number of
things that relate to risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke.
Not smoking is one of the best things a person can do to lower their risk
of stroke. Quitting smoking will also help to lower a person's risk of stroke.
The risk of stroke decreases a few years after quitting smoking. Your doctor
can suggest programs to help you quit smoking. For more information about
tobacco use and quitting, see CDC's tobacco intervention and prevention
source Web site.Treat atrial fibrillation:,Atrial fibrillation is an
irregular beating of the heart. It can cause clots that can lead to stroke.
A doctor can prescribe medicines to help reduce the chance of clots. See our
fact sheet on this condition.Prevent and control high blood cholesterol:,High
blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease, which can increase
the risk for stroke. Preventing and treating high blood cholesterol includes
eating a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol and higher in fiber, keeping
a healthy weight, and getting regular exercise. A lipoprotein profile can
be done to measure several kinds of cholesterol as well as triglycerides
(another kind of fat found in the blood). All adults should have their
cholesterol levels checked once every five years, and more often if it is
found to be high. If it is high, your doctor may prescribe medicines to help
lower it. See our cholesterol fact sheet.Moderate alcohol use:,Excessive
alcohol use can increase the risk of high blood pressure. People who drink
should do so in moderation. More information on alcohol can be found at CDC's
alcohol and public health Web site.Maintain a healthy weight:,Healthy weight
status in adults is usually assessed by using weight and height to compute
a number called the "body mass index" (BMI). BMI is used because it relates
to the amount of body fat for most people. An adult who has a BMI of 30 or
higher is considered obese. Overweight is a BMI between 25 and 29.9. Normal
weight is a BMI of 18 to 24.9. Proper diet and regular physical activity can
help to maintain a healthy weight. You can compute your BMI at CDC's nutrition
and physical activity program Web site.Regular Physical Activity:,The
Surgeon General recommends that adults should engage in moderate level
physical activities for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week. For
more information, see CDC's nutrition and physical activity program Web
site.Diet and nutrition:,Along with healthy weight and regular physical
activity, an overall healthy diet can help to lower blood pressure and
cholesterol levels. This includes eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables,
lowering or cutting out salt or sodium, and eating less saturated fat and
cholesterol to lower the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease which
can lead to stroke. For more information, see CDC's nutrition and physical
activity program Web site.Genetic Risk Factors,Stroke can run in families.
Genes play a role in stroke risk factors such as high blood pressure, heart
disease, diabetes, and vascular conditions. It is also possible that an
increased risk for stroke within a family is due to factors such as a common
sedentary lifestyle or poor eating habits, rather than hereditary
factors."You can see that if you are watching out for stroke you are helping
your heart too.4.Respiratory DiseaseMy grandfather who died at age
ninety-seven when I was in Korea told me to always take a walk first thing
in the morning and to fill my lungs with fresh air. He had been a coal miner
but the black lung disease did not kill him.Exposure to dangerous chemicals
can be detrimental to your respiratory health.I have been exposed to many
dangerous chemical in my work career. Fortunately I was monitored and given
training to prevent exposure. However, some of my friends and coworkers have
suffered, even died from exposure to heat, asbestos and beryllium oxide. Many
workers in I my industry have suffered from silica exposure. Silica is very
fine sand. Some have suffered and eventually died from breathing excessively
hot air while repairing industrial kilns and furnaces. There is no excuse
for the later. Kilns should be cooled before workers are allowed to enter
them despite that loss of revenue. The most dangerous chemical to most of us
is tobacco. Second-hand smoke is suspect but the main culprit is plain old
smoking. So don't smoke! Our air is polluted. Even in Idaho, we get the smoke
from farmers burning weeds and from forest fire in our state and neighboring
states. We just don't have as much industrial pollution in most of the
state.Pollutants can cause cancer.Asthma is a major health risk. It requires
medical monitoring. Some consider Sleep Apnea a respiratory disease. It is
very hereditary; just ask my kids and grandkids. This is a horrible ailment
and I learned that I had it some years ago while watching a television program.
I had a terrible time in college as did my third son. I would fall asleep
in lectures and when I tried to study. In graduate school when I was older,
it was awful and I don't know how I got through it.Sleep apnea kills your
short term memory so it is good I was an engineer/scientist where I could
calculate my way through college instead of memorize my way through. When I
was tested for sleep apnea, my blood oxygen dropped to near-zero. Instead
of waiting for a later test to fit a CPAP unit, I was given one in the hospital.
I slept for two and one-half hours and woke up at 5:30 a.m. and left the
hospital.I could never remember sleeping that long.I didn't need any sleep
the next couple of days. Finally, I called my oldest son and told him that
I was up all night studying quantum mechanics and Russian. He told me to stay
in bed for at least five hours until my system adjusted to having oxygen while
sleeping.Sleep apnea can lead to heart disease and stroke. Get
help!5.Accident InjuriesMany folks are killed in accidents on the highway,
in the home and in the workplace. Do the best you can do is follow the rules
of safety. Highway deaths are often caused by drunk drivers. Also, the use
of cell phones and radio transmitters while driving can cause
accidents.Ladders and electrical circuits are waiting to catch you unawares.
Gravity and high-voltage are there to snag you day and night, even on
Christmas. Be careful. At work, follow the rules.Children love to get into
trouble. Are those dangerous chemical locked up?6.DiabetesTo learn about
diabetes, go to: home.jspThis is a disease I dread. I know that as you get
older and heavier you become more at risk. I see it in my old friends and
relatives, it is close to home. There are two types of diabetes (form our source
above):"Type 1 diabetes,is usually diagnosed in children and young adults,
and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body
does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar
(glucose), starches and other food into energy needed for daily life."Type
2 diabetes,is the most common form of diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, either
the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin.
Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. When
you eat food, the body breaks down all of the sugars and starches into glucose,
which is the basic fuel for the cells in the body. Insulin takes the sugar
from the blood into the cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead
of going into cells, it can cause two problems:* Right away, your cells may
be starved for energy.* Over time, high blood glucose levels may hurt your
eyes, kidneysnerves or heart.'Finding out you have diabetes is scary. But
don't panic. Type 2 diabetes is serious, but people with diabetes can live
long, healthy, happy lives."While diabetes occurs in people of all ages and
races, some groups have a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes than
others. Type 2 diabetes is more common in African Americans, Latinos, Native
Americans, and Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders, as well as the aged
population."Diabetes can cause other problems. Go to the reference to learn
more and see your doctor if you need help in this area. Eat right and avoid
obesity.7.Influenza and PneumoniaWhen the flu bug goes around, we all are
exposed to it. During the great world-wide flu epidemic of 1918, even hermits
in the pine barrens of New Jersey were found dead. So, get your flu shots
to lessen the risk. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. It is sort of a guessing
game with the scientist as to which strain to protect you from. Sometimes,
they guess wrong. But you still may get some protection even then.We old folks
get pneumonia in the hospital, often after surgery. Then some of us die. But
youngsters can die too. Ask your doctor if you need a pneumonia
shot.8.Alzheimer's DiseaseThis horrible disease can not be stopped. It is
a killer of the aged. It can come on rapidly. It brings tremendous sorrows
to many families. My neighbor's wife thought he was her mean brother. It broke
the kind old man's heart.Medical treatments for this disease can treat some
of the symptoms. For a very informative tutorial on Alzheimer's Disease go

factsMillions of Americans have kidney disease (CKD) and another millions
more are at increased risk. Early detection can help prevent the progression
of kidney disease to kidney failure. Heart disease is the major cause of death
for all people with CKD.Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the best estimate
of kidney function.Hypertension causes CKD and CKD causes hypertension.High
risk groups include those with diabetes, hypertension and family history of
kidney disease. African Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, Native
Americans and Seniors are at increased risk.Three simple tests can detect
CKD: blood pressure, urine albumin and serum creatinine.10. Systemic
InfectionHIV/AIDS is such a disease. There are many others and a major cause
of death throughout the world. Vaccines and treatments are needed throughout
the world and many organizations are helping to provide for that need.
Bacteria, virus and fungus are agents. Parasites too are a problem.Staff
infections are prevalent in hospitals. Stay home if possible.11. SuicideToo
many young people die of this cause. It is a higher risk in my state of Idaho.
Too often, a person commits suicide with no apparent reason. The family is
stunned and devastated. Some veterans are suicidal. (I did not see this in
Korea but we had one guy in our company shoot himself in the foot with an
M-1 hoping that would send him home. It sent him to the hospital and then
to a court martial. The company commander was furious.)My friend's dad killed
himself during the depression. His dad was pilfering money from the coal
company where he was accountant. It devastated his family, my father who was
his best friend, and me.If you suffer from depression, get help. The National

to watch our blood pressure but even teens can have high blood pressure. Get
tested! It doesn't hurt and any nurse can do it. You probably can get a test
by machine at your pharmacy. If you get such a reading and it is high, have
your doctor check it out. The machines are not all that accurate form my
experience.14. HomicideMove to the suburbs, make that the country. We live
in a dangerous age. Stay out of those dark alleys. In Idaho, drinking or drugs
or both are factors in homicide. I suggest that you stay out of places where
drugs are present and alcohol alone is served.15. Other CausesThey say that
there are other causes of death. I can think of the major wars and the minor
wars. I can think of that killer, Osama bin Laden. The Taliban killed thousands
before our invasion. There are so many terrorist organization to help that
killing machine along. And then we have the weather, earthquakes, volcanoes,
tidal waves, and all that.Duck your head!God bless you to a great old age.Good

an interview in character at the 1988 Academy Awards The character of Pee
wee Herman first originated during a 1978 improvisation exercise with The
Groundlings where Reubens came up with the idea of a man who wanted to be
a comic but was so inept at telling jokes that it was obvious to the audience
that he would never make it Fellow Groundling Phil Hartman would afterwards
help Reubens develop the character while another Groundling John Paragon
would help write the show Despite having been compared to other famous
characters such as Herg s Tintin and Collodi s Pinocchio Reubens says that
there is no specific source for Pee wee but rather a collection of ideas Pee
wee s voice originated in 1970 when Reubens appeared in a production of Life

play for which Reubens adopted a cartoon like way of speaking that would become

Pee wee acquired a small group of followers and Reubens took his show to The

amp Chong s Next Movie Reubens act had mainly positive reactions and quickly
acquired a group of fans despite being described as bizarre and Reubens being
described as the weirdest comedian around Pee wee was both corny and hip
retrograde and avant garde When Pee wee s fame started growing Reubens started
to move away from the spotlight keeping his name under wraps and making all
his public appearance and interviews in character while billing Pee wee as
playing himself Reubens was trying to get the public to think that that was
a real person Later on he would even prefer his parents be known only as Honey
Herman and Herman Herman In the early and mid 1980s Reubens made several guest
appearances on Late Night with David Letterman as Pee wee Herman which gave
Pee wee an even bigger following During the mid 1980s Reubens traveled the

Reubens original idea was to do a remake of Pollyanna which Reubens claims

everyone at Warner Bros had a bike with them which inspired Reubens to start
on a new script with Phil Hartman When Reubens and the producers of Pee wee
s Big Adventure saw Tim Burton s work on Vincent and Frankenweenie they decided
