The Cover Page for the Scholarship Notebook goes on the
very front of the binder – otherwise there are not enough
pages available inside. There is a sample on the counter in
the Counseling Office next to the sign up notebook. Sorry
for the confusion!

The Coast Guard has two year round part time student positions
available. Students must be attending school and working during the
same quarter/semester in order to be eligible for the positions.
Information sheets are available in the Counseling Office.

  If you have received notification from the Colleges that you have
 applied to and/or Scholarships or have accepted a financial package
  from a college, please bring a copy to Dannette in the Counseling
      Office so we can include the information at Awards Night.
    REMEMBER YOU NEED TO REQUEST TO HAVE YOUR OFFICIAL
TRANSCRIPT sent to the College that you are applying to. WE CANNOT
  SEND an official transcript if you have fines that are due. You can
  request a transcript by filling out a form in the Guidance Office or
       email Dannette Hull at dhull@northmasonschools.org.

Scholarship recipient(s) must be accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning
and be attending in the year the scholarship is awarded. Minimum GPA of 3.2.

ED AMICK SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 9, 2012
Amount: $300                                      Criteria Sheet & Official Transcript
Criteria: Senior wrestler graduating from NMHS who has satisfactorily completed the
past wrestling season, including meeting the attendance requirement for a letter, and who
has a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 out of a possible 4.0. A wrestling season prior to the
past season may be substituted in the event that injury, illness or family emergency made
it impossible for the applicant to complete their senior season. Must have been accepted
to an accredited college or vocational institute.

EVERGREEN GARDEN CLUB
Amount: $500                                    Scholarship Notebook & Application
Deadline: March 9, 2012
Criteria: Preference will be given to students whose long-term goals include classes in

GRAPEVIEW COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
Amount: One or more up to $3,000                    Scholarship Notebook & Application
Deadline: March 9, 2012
The Grapeview Community Association will award one or more scholarships of up to
$3,000 for the 2012-2013 academic year. Applicants must have attended Grapeview
School for a minimum of one year and be graduating from the North Mason or Shelton
School Districts. The award may be used at any state or private university, college,
technical school or trade school in the United States that is accredited. Award criteria
includes academic achievement, financial need, involvement in school and community
activities, service, and evidence of work in high school that shows preparation for further
education and the student’s career plan. The senior portfolio or scholarship notebook will
be used to find evidence for these criteria. This scholarship is also coordinated with the
North Mason Dollars for Scholars program.

***JK’S TREASURE
Amount: 2 awards @ $500                                  Criteria Sheet & Essay
Criteria: For students who are involved in community service, leadership, are in good
academic standing, are planning on attending a four-year college or university,
community college or vocational school, and have financial need. Qualifying students
should have a great sense of respect for different cultures.
Essay topic: THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN MY LIFE – there is no word or
page limit.
KIWANIS CLUB OF NORTH MASON (3) and TOM KELLY (Kiwanis)
MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1)
Amount: Minimum of $500 to all recipients, but $$ amount and number of awards
may be more; Tom Kelly Award is $500
Deadline: March 9, 2012                          Scholarship Notebook & Essay
                                                 Criteria Sheet
Criteria: Financial need for one award; General scholarship (GPA, SAT, ACT scores,
etc.) for one award,; School activities and community service for one award – and
especially this for the Tom Kelly Award; all applicants must have ALL parts of their
application complete (especially the criteria sheet). If an application is incomplete, it will
not be considered.
Essay topic: Imagine you are an employer in Mason County. Write a persuasive memo to
all your employees about why they should be involved in community service (about 100
words in length).

LAKELAND MEN’S INVITATIONAL
Amount: $1,000                                 Scholarship Notebook and Application
Deadline: March 9, 2012
Criteria: Financial need, leader, well rounded student, academics, school activities, and
community service.

LAKELAND WOMEN’S INVITATIONAL

Criteria: Scholarship can be used for Technical School, Community College or
University. The Committee will look at notebooks and interview if needed. We take into
consideration any and all Community service, school activities and would like a
paragraph how your future plans relate to or impact local business.

NORTH MASON EAGLES
Amount: 2 @ $500                                             Notebook & Essay
Deadline: March 9, 2012
Criteria: Academics, activities, school and community achievements, character, financial
need, SAT and/or ACT scores. Preference will be given to students of Eagle members.
Essay, hand written, 200 word maximum entitled “How will help from the North Mason
Eagles help me?”

NORTH MASON YOUTH SOCCER
Amount: $500                                             Scholarship Notebook & Essay
Deadline: March 9, 2012
Criteria: You must have played 2 years of high school soccer. Also, you must have
played in any Youth program in Washington State. Please provide an essay on what
playing soccer has meant to you.

***TED SMITH MEMORIAL
Amount: $850                                Notebook & Application
Deadline: March 9, 2012
Criteria: Any senior wrestler graduating from North Mason High School
who satisfactorily completed the past wrestling season. In the event that
there isn’t a senior wrestler who meets the eligibility requirement, the
scholarship will be available to any other graduating senior at North Mason
High School .

TONI M. SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: $1,000 – renewable for 4 years               Criteria Sheet, Essay
                                                      Letter of Recommendation
Criteria: For students attending a post graduate institute/program that focuses on an
ACADEMIC course of study. Student must demonstrate concern for others and is honest,
shows promise that academic achievement is more important than accumulated grade
point average, shows financial need. A personal essay on “Service” is required. (No more
than 100 words.)

TONI M. SMITH CTE SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: $2,000 – renewable for 2 periods            Criteria Sheet & Application
Criteria: For students who wish to pursue a post graduate course of study that is focused
on the “Vocational/Technical” careers. Student must demonstrate concern for others and
is honest, shows promise that vocational or technical achievement is more important than
accumulated grade point average, shows financial need.

TONY HANNAN MEMORIAL
Amount: $250                                   Scholarship Notebook, Criteria Sheet
Deadline: March 9, 2012
Criteria: Preference is given to seniors who plan to enroll in a vocational program at a
technical or community college; however, all students are welcome to apply.

VFW POST 1694 BILL DEMIERO MEMORIAL
Amount: 2 @ $1,000                                                   Application
Deadline: April 13, 2012
Parent needs to be a veteran, need proof of parents’ service, transcript, and provide an
outline of college plans. Applications are available in the Counseling Office.

FEBRUARY DEADLINES
OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL
Deadline: February 10, 2012             Amounts: $500 - $2,500
The Optimist Club of Mason County is encouraging area students to contemplate the
phrase ”How my Positive Outlook Benefits my Community” as part of the Optimist
International Essay Contest for 2012. Entry forms are in the Guidance Office.

NURSING HOME AWARENESS AND PREVENTION SCHOLARSHIP
Application Window: January 15 – February 15, 2012          Amount: $5,000
For US students pursuing a degree that will help combat nursing home abuse. The
scholarship will cover non-tuition related expenses such as rent, childcare, textbooks,
utilities and groceries fro the 2012-203 academic year. Full scholarship details at:

BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: February 15, 2012                     Amount: $1,000

GREAT WEST DIVISION, INC. CANCER SURVIVOR SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAM
Deadline: February 24, 2012              $2,500 - $10,000
Applicants must be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21, scheduled to graduate
from high school and/or continuing college in th upcoming school year, must be a U.S.
resident, must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applications available in the counseling
office.

MARK E. REED SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: February 29, 2012                 Amount: $3,000
Information sheets are available in the Counseling Office. Applications are available on
the Green Diamond website, www.greendiamond.com under Charitable Giving. The
application is in Microsoft Word format. Applicants must print, sign, and mail their
applications to be received in Shelton by 2/29/12 by 4:00 p.m. in order to be considered.

BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: February 29, 2012            Amount: $2,000 - $25,000
The following are encouraged to apply: High school seniors and current
undergraduates, those who plan to enroll full time at a four-year college or university in
2012-2013, Those who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering,
technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry.

CASCADE WARBIRDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: February 29, 2012
Applicants must be 16, 17, or 18 by July 27, 2012
Private Pilot Ground School with Introductory Flights – Cascade Warbirds has teamed
with Galvin Flight Service at Boeing Field, Seattle, WA and with Avian Flight Center at the
Bremerton airport to provide the scholarship recipient with tuition, books and supplies,
and two introductory instructional flights.
EAA AirVenture Aviation Camp in Oshkosh, Wisconsin – Cascade Warbirds has
teamed with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to
provide the tuition for the EAA’s Advanced Air Academy. This camp provides an
atmosphere for mature students to become totally immersed in the world of flight.

ELKS VOCATIONAL GRANT AWARD
Deadline: February 29, 2012
The grant may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies at a State Community
College or Technical School. It may not be used at a four-year college or university.

MARCH DEADLINES

ROBERT J. HANDY (PEMCO FOUNDATION, INC) SCHOLARSHIPS
Deadline: March 1, 2012                Amount: $900 a year, up to 4 years
The PEMCO Foundation, Inc. grants sixteen Robert J. Handy Scholarships.
WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL RETIREES’ ASSOCIATION (WSSR)
Deadline: March 1, 2012                  Amount: $1,500
The WSSR grants eight scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each for one year only.

requesting a username (or login), which is wssr, and a password, which is scholarship
(all lowercase).



ACS SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Deadline: March 1, 2012                  $5,000
The American Chemical Society awards renewable scholarships to underrepresented
minority students who want to enter the field of chemistry or chemistry-related fields.
Awards are given to qualified applicants based on academic standing, financial need,
career objective, leadership skills, and involvement in school activities and community

EWING C. KELLY SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 12, 2012               Amount: $2,500
Applicants will be judged on citizenship, academic achievement and financial need.
Applications are available in the Counseling Office.

HOOD CANAL SALMON ENHANCEMENT GROUP
Deadline: March 15, 2012                     Amount: $2,500
Scholarships and internships are offered to high school students of the Hood Canal
region who are interested in pursuing careers in the natural sciences. Available for
graduating seniors (juniors with a strong application are welcome to apply), students
who will be attending a 2 or 4 year college or university after high school graduation,
students who intend to pursue a degree in the natural sciences and in good academic
standing. Applications available in the Counseling Office.


OLYMPIA MASTER BUILDERS
Deadline: March 16, 2012                 Amount: $1,500 and $2,500
Scholarships that are awarded are intended to assist students in pursuing a higher
education leading to careers in construction or related industries. Applications are
available in the Counseling Office.

WASHINGTON STATE ASSOCIATION FOR JUSTICE
Deadline: March 16, 2012                   Amount: $2,000
American Justice Essay Scholarship fosters awareness and a strong understanding of
our civil justice system.
Presidents’ Scholarship is awarded to high achievers who are committed to helping
those in need, and who have been victims of injury or who have overcome a disability or
handicap. Guidelines are available in the Guidance Office or online at:

HOOD CANAL MASONIC COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 31, 2012
Scholarships available to high school seniors or students currently enrolled in an
accredited college, university or trade school. To be eligible you must: be a resident of
Kitsap or Mason County, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, attend an accredited college,
university, or trade school, meet the March 31st application deadline. Applications are
available in the Counseling Office or in WORD format by emailing
cheriannpruitt@msn.com.

BREMERTON VALLEY OF THE SCOTTISH RITE OF FREEMASONRY
Deadline: March 31, 2012                Amount: $1,000
The scholarship recipient(s) must be accepted at an accredited institution of higher
learning and attendance must begin in the year in which the scholarship awarded.
Applications are available in Guidance Office.


US BANK
Deadline: March 31, 2012            Amount: $1,000
The Internet Scholarship Program is exclusively for full-time high school seniors.

IMAGINE TOMORROW
Opens March 1 – closes April 2, 2012
Imagine Tomorrow rewards high school students for innovative ideas and research to
address the world’s energy concerns. Each student team can choose to answer one of

AMERICAN LEGION – LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: April 15, 2012          Amounts Vary
Child/Children, or legally adopted child/children, of active duty United States military
and Guard, and Reserve personnel who were federalized and died on active duty on or

***PENINSULA EDUCATION GRANT
Deadline: April 27, 2012                  $500 - $3,000
Applicants must be individual members of Peninsula Credit Union (with their own

WASHINGTON WINE INDUSTRY FOUNDATION

The Washington Wine Industry Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of

ABBOT AND FENNER BUSINESS CONSULTANTS SCHOLARSHIP
Dealine: June 15, 2012             $1,000
The A&F Scholarships are available to high school juniors and seniors as well as all
students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution. To apply for
this scholarship you will need to write an essay on one of two topics. Applicants must
have enrolled in at least 360 hours of career and technical course work and have
maintained a 3.0 GPA in their career and technical classes throughout their high school
