The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards
quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year.

        WMO Arts & Science College was established in 1995 by Wayanad Muslim
Orphanage, a charitable society which started functioning in 1967. The college aims at
the uplift of the educational level of all citizens of the society irrespective of caste, creed,
religion and sex in general and the backward minorities, orphans and destitute in
particular.
        Following are the major goals and objectives of the Institution:-
       Development of personality of students irrespective of caste, creed, colour and
        religion
       Uplift the backward minorities, Orphans and destitute
       Provide opportunity for linkage with society
       Provide academic and peaceful atmosphere conducive to higher learning


        We function with an obvious vision and mission to accomplish the above goals
and objectives of the college.


Vision:-
        Strive for academic excellence, creativity and social commitment to the citizens
especially the backward minorities, orphans and destitute, upholding the ethical and
religious value.


Mission:-
        Establish academic and peaceful atmosphere conducive to intellectual inquiry and
personality development with a holistic perspective.

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:

        The college is run and managed by the Wayanad Muslim Orphanage, a charitable
society registered under Societies Registration Act. The institution situates at a backward
rural and hilly area, aims mainly at the development of personality of all the students in
general and minorities, orphans and destitute in particular.


   To realize these goals following activities were conducted during the academic year:
       Award Day
   Cash awards to the toppers and rank holders in the university examinations were
distributed in a function on 14-08-2006. Sri M P Virendra Kumar M P was the chief
guest
       Students’ Union Activities
        The activities of the college students’ union were inaugurated on 28-11-2006 by
Sri MK Muneer, the former Minister for Public Works, Govt. of Kerala. The activities of
the fine arts were also inaugurated on the same day by the cine artist Sri. Nishad. The
students presented various cultural activities on 28th & 29th November 2006.
       College Day
        The College Day was celebrated on 07-02-2007. Mr. Ali Askar Pasha, ADM
Wayanad was the chief guest.
       Rain My Life Campaign
        The NSS units conducted the district level inauguration of Rain My Life
Campaign on 20-06-2006.
       District Level And University Level Training Camps
        One day District Level Training Camp of Lahari Virudha Vedi was conducted by
NSS Units on 19-07-2006. Mr. M A Muhammad Jamal inaugurated the camp.
        A three day University level residential camp on “Leadership Training and

Personality Development” was conducted on        .   Mr. P A Jayaprakash, GM, District
Industries Department inaugurated the camp. 63 NSS volunteer from various colleges
under Calicut University attended the camp
      Ms. Nanditha Memorial Lecture
       The Dept. Of English in association with Nanditha Endowment Committee
conducted a District Level Quiz Competition. Ms. Ayisha Thabassum, Principal, WMO
English School, Bathery delivered the lecture on 23-01-2007.
    Seminars and talks
      The Dept of English organized following talks:
                     “ Literature and Contemporary Issues” by Ms. Ayisha Thabassum

      The Dept. of Arabic organized a lecture on 28th November 2007 by Dr. E K
       Ahammed, Head of the Dept. of Arabic, MES College, Mampad on the topic
       “Trends and Movements in Arabic Literature”.
      The Dept. of Commerce conducted a talk on 16-01-2007 by Mr. Saji, G M
       Geogith on “Capital Market Issues”
      The Dept of Physics organized following talks:
                     “ Fullerins” by Dr. Devadas, MG College, Iritty on 01-01-2007
                     “Astronomy” by Mr. Elias on 11-01-2007
      The Dept. of Mathematics organized following talks:
                     “The Application of Vedic Mathematics” by Mr. Sabu Sebstain,
                       Nirmalagiri College, Koothuparamba on 24-01-2007
                     “Complex Analysis” by Mr. Latheesh Kumar A R. St. Mary’s

      Legal Awareness classes


       In association with District Legal Services Authority, the college conducted legal
awareness classes for 2nd year degree students on 17th July 2006. Mr. Justice C C
Zakariya, Judge Family Court, Kapetta inaugurated the classes.

   3. Innovations in Curricular Design and transaction:
       The college follows the curriculum designed by the Boards of studies, faculty and
academic council in various disciplines of the affiliating University. The college has no
complete freedom in designing and transaction of curriculum. The following members of

4. Inter-disciplinary Program Started:
       As per the norms of the affiliating university, the college has no option to start
inter-disciplinary programs.
5. Examination Reforms Implemented:
       Annual and semester examinations are conducted according to the norms
prescribed by the university. Besides, the college conducts quarterly and half yearly
examinations and class tests.

7. Initiative towards faculty development program:
         Two members of teaching faculty are pursuing their research study under FIP.
Mr. Hamzakutty is doing research leading to PhD in Electronics at the Cochin University
of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and Mr. P Abdul Rasheed is doing PhD in Arabic
at University of Calicut. Besides, four teachers are undergoing part-time research study
leading to PhD.

16. Internal Resources Generated:
       Internal resources are generated mainly by the Management committee and the
Parent Teacher Association.
       The Management committee contributed Rs.1927696.00 for the construction of
Administrative Block and Rs. 19900.00 for library books.
       The Parent Teacher Association is contributing for the salary of guest faculty.
Self financing courses such as BA English, MA Arabic, MSc Physics and MSc
Mathematics are being conducted utilizing the funds collected from the students.

    Assistance/ recognition: Nil
18. Community services:
       Community Services are undertaken mainly by the units of National Service
Scheme. (NSS). The 10-day Special Camping programme held at Govt. Vocational High
er Secondary School, Munderi, Kalpetta, was a great success with the help of local
community of the area. The volunteers conducted a general survey in the concerned
municipal ward and supplied seeds of vegetables to the public. Besides, the volunteers
cleaned and removed the plastic waste from the area with the support of public and the
authorities of Kalpetta Municipality.
       The NSS Bhavan constructed by the volunteers with support of the people was
handed over to the beneficiary in a public meeting held on 12-06-2006.
19. Teachers and officers newly recruited:
       Due to the ban of the State Government in filling the vacant posts, new
recruitments are not done during this year. However, the Management is taking necessary
steps for filling the vacancies by appointing guest lecturers and no vacancy of Non
Teaching staff is arisen this year. The total number of guest teachers appointed during the
year is 23.

21. Improvements in the library services:
       183 new volumes of books and 14 journals have been added to the stock of the
library during the year.
22. New books/journals subscribed and their value:
       The library has equipped with 7158 volumes of books. A total of 183 books were
purchased during this year. 26 journals are being subscribed in the library. The value of
new books is Rs. 19900.00
23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and action taken
   On student feedback:
A student assessment on teachers was conducted by IQAC in all final year classes during
the last week of March using a form for feed back. The Principal discussed results of the
feed back with each faculty and advised them to take corrective measures accordingly.
24. Unit cost of education:
       Including Salary Component              : Rs. 8525.00
       Excluding Salary Component              : Rs. 783.00
25. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and
   Examination results, issue certificates:
       The office has been computerized and the process of administration, admission
and billing are done through the computerized system. The results of examination are
published and certificates are issued by the affiliating University and the college
facilitates these processes with computer facility.
26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities:
       The construction of a class room and the administrative block was completed
during the year.
27. Technology Upgrading
       All the department labs were upgraded supplying additional instruments.
28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students:
       The college has well equipped computer lab with LAN facility. Teachers and
students are using this facility for their academic purpose. The internet facility attached to
the library is utilized by the staff and students with a nominal cost. Orientation on
searching, borrowing and returning of library books is given to the fresh students at the
beginning of academic year.
29. Financial aid to students:
       The students are supported with financial aid from student’s Aid Fund and the
college facilitates to get scholarships from other Governmental and Non-governmental
agencies like UGC, Coffee Board and Voluntary Organizations.
30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association:
       The Alumni Association conducted a class on “Soft Skills” for final year Degree
students.
31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association:
       The PTA distributed cash awards to the toppers and rank holders in the University
examinations conducted in March/April 2006 in the function, “Award Day-2006” held on
14/08/2006. Mr. MP Veerendra Kumar, Member of Parliament was the chief guest. The
PTA contributes remuneration to the guest faculty who are not getting salary from the
Government. The PTA also works for the maintenance of peaceful atmosphere in the
college.
32. Health services:
       The fitness centre attached to the Dept. of Physical Education has equipments
with six stations and students are making use of it for maintaining physical fitness.
33. Performance in sports activities:
       The College Chess Team participated in the Inter collegiate Chess Tournament
held at Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur and got second position. Mr. Jaleel M, Mr.
Mohamed Ali, Mr. Majeed, Mr. Nisam and Mohammed Jamshad were the team
members.
       Mr. Rajith Kumar represented the Kerala State “Throw Ball” team and attended in
the senior nationals held at Rajasthan.
       Ms. Nikhila TA represented Calicut University Table Tennis team.
       Mr. Mohammed Jamshad represented Kerala State Junior Foot Ball team.
       The College Football team won the Wayanad district Inter collegiate foot ball
tournament for “Mariyan’s trophy” held at St. Mary’s College, Sulthan Bathery. The
Cricket team of the college won the Wayanad district inter collegiate cricket tournament
for “Cards Cup” held at St. Mary’s College, Sulthan Bathery. The Foot ball team won the
Wayanad district “B Division” foot ball league tournament.
       12 players represented Wayanad district foot ball team (03 in senior category and
09 in under 21 category). Two students represented Wayanad district cricket team. One
student represented Wayanad District Volley ball team. Two students represented
Wayanad district Throw Ball team and one student represented Wayanad district Soft
Ball team.
       Ms. Rijila Nath of III BSc Mathematics turned out to be the Individual Champion
in the All India Invitational Karate Championship 2006.
34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons:
       Four sports persons were given fee concession for B.com course and two sports
persons were given free accommodation.
35. Student achievements and awards:

      Mr. Ashik Jamal and Daniel Thomas got first prize in the district level Quiz
       competition conducted by District Legal Services Authority, Wayanad
      Ms. Nimisha and Mr. Shyju were placed first in the Quiz competition conducted
       by SBT, Kalpetta
      Ms. Subna got first place in the Mono Act competition at B Zone Arts festival,
       University of Calicut
      Mr. Shyju, Mr. Prasanth and Mr. Jomish represented the College in the State level
       Quiz competition held at Ernakulam.
      Mr. Shamsudheen and Vinod Samjar attended the Business Quiz held at Don
       Bosco College, Bathery and won second prize.
      Mr. Shamsudheen got first place in the district level Essay competition conducted
       by St. Catherine H.S.S Payyanpally.
      Mr. Ashik Jamal and Mr. Jinesh KS won prizes in the Technical Quiz competition
       conducted at N.S.S Engineering College, Palakkad
      Rohit Kiran and Bithun T of II BSc Mathematics won third position in the State
       level Statistics Quiz held      at Sree Kerala Varma College,           Thrissur.


36. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling unit:
       Mr. Mohammed Ziyad M K, Lecturer in Statistics is in charge of the career
guidance and counseling cell. The cell gives timely information and counseling to the
students.
37. Placement services provided to students:
       Students were provided with opportunities to attend interviews and placements at
WIPRO, INFOSIS, and NEST etc.
      05 students from the Department of Electronics and 03 students from the
       Department of Mathematics got placement at various firms like Hindusthan
       Petroleum, HCL, Satyam Computers etc.
38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff:
       Members of the Administrative Staff attended a course in computer training
conducted by the Department of Computer Science.
39. Healthy practices of the institution:
       1. Meetings: -
       The college council, staff club and departments convene meetings frequently to
review the teaching schedule, conduct of examinations and over all development of
students, staff and the college.
       2. Committees:-
       The college Management Committee convenes frequent meetings to discuss and
decide positive steps in the development of the college. Besides, various committees are
formed under the chairmanship of the Principal to ensure smooth functioning of the
activities of the college and to monitor the over all development of the stake holders of
the college, viz Discipline committee, Anti-ragging committee, Director Board of
Cooperative Society etc.
       3. Self-financing courses: -
       The college offers self financing courses at PG and UG level.

       4. IGNOU Study Centre:-
       The college provides facility to conduct study programmes of IGNOU under the
Distance Education Stream.
       5. Distance Education Centre
               The School of Distance Education, University of Calicut has selected the
college as the district centre for distance education.
       6. Student’s Union:-
       The college students’ union is a democratically elected body which helps the
students knows their civic responsibilities and democratic values. It also provides
opportunities for the development of character and leadership qualities.
        7. National Service Scheme:-
        There are two units of National Service Scheme at the college. The units provide
ample opportunities to the students to develop their personality, skills and leadership
qualities. They arrange various programmes relating to communal harmony, social
linkage and nation building, and awareness programmes related to health and hygiene,
legal literacy etc.

attended national seminars and published 10 articles in national and 01 article in
International Journals.
       Dr. TA Abdul Majeed and Dr. K Jamaludeen published books(01 each)
       The Department of Commerce published a magazine called “Business Mirror”
       Mr. Siby Joseph, Department of Electronics presented a paper on “Embedded
        Systems” at Government College, Mananthavady
