EASTER AT THE LODGE
On Easter Sunday, April 8th, The Lodge hosted a party and Easter Egg Hunt for Elk's children and grandchildren. Counting the parents,
grandparents and children, there were about 150 in attendance. The children enjoyed an Easter egg hunt, set up by age categories. The young ones
were delighted with their treasures of candies and money. There were tables where the children could color and decorate Easter cookies. And, of
course, there was the "Cake Walk" where the kids could win cupcakes and other Easter delights. Other than the sweet stuff, the Lodge provided
hotdogs and sodas to the children and parents.
The Lodge Easter Bunnies took flowers to four local Rest homes. These patients always smile and enjoy this annual event.
Mike Robinson, with the help of his wife Marilyn and many of the Auxiliary of the Elks members, chaired the event. Thanks to Mike and his crew
for a great afternoon!

elKs cheRish childRen!
By
Linda Lewandowski
Executive Director, Arizona Elks Major Projects, Inc.
From the very beginning Elks have been about charity. We care about Veterans, we care about those in need, but most of all we care about
children.
Elks’ donations have helped improve the lives of hundreds of kids and will help even more in the future as researchers make strides in finding
cures for juvenile diseases and averting the ravages of premature birth. Think of the memories kids take with them when they leave the Youth
Camp. Elks make a huge difference in so many ways!
Each year Arizona Elks, through AEMP, pledge $250,000 to the Steele Children’s Research Center. To date, Arizona Elks have contributed
more than $5M to provide researchers with seed money to secure research grants, underwrite renovation of the Elks Clinic for Children and
Young Adults, and fully fund the Endowed Chair for Neonatology. That in itself is remarkable, but the Arizona Elks also continue to fund the
Arizona Elks Youth Camp providing healthy kids with opportunities to learn teamwork and family values in a healthy environment.
We Elks have accomplished a great deal, but there is far more to do. Your help is again needed. This year’s Cherish a Child letter will
reach your mail box very soon. I am hopeful that when you consider writing a check you are able to picture the smiling faces of kids who are
experiencing their first camping trip or the tiny baby who is now well enough to go home to an adoring family. Thank you.

The April Auxiliary meeting was held in the Lodge Room on April 3rd. The membership unanimously approved
four events to raise money for our charities. They include a Luau themed river cruise on the Colorado King
Sternwheeler on May 5th, a bus trip to the Children’s Research Center in Tucson on November17th, a Christmas
dance on December 22nd, and a fashion show on Jan.12th,2013. We welcomed a new member, Lynn McFadden, at
our meeting. Congratulations Lynn!
The 50/50 drawing held by our Cherish the Child Chairman, Anne-Heather Welch, was won by Carol Hightower.
The drawings by our Social Director, Traci Tafoya, were won by Allyne Woolery and Nola Danan. The membership
drawings by inner guard, Sylvia Wyland were won by Darlene Freeman and Peggy Bean. Traci presented plants
to June Sloan and Marianne Lawrence in appreciation for all the work that was done for Monday night spaghetti
dinners.
We had a visit by our new Exalted Ruler, Glenn Harris, PER. He said he and his officers were looking forward to
a great year with our Auxiliary and our projects. We also welcomed Mike Robinson, PER, who asked for our help
at the Easter Party for the children. A BIG thank you to Marilyn Robinson and her workers that supported Mike in
this project.
The budget committee, headed by Diane Whitney, will propose the new budget at our May meeting on Tuesday the 1st. The membership
approved a $4,000.00 gift for scholarships to the Lodge, presented to Pat Riley, PER, to round out the need for funds for deserving students. A
dinner will be held at a future date.
The By-Laws committee, headed by Lil Meadows, will present the proposed by-law changes at our May meeting. I ask that ALL members
attend this meeting to have an opportunity to be involved in the budget and Finance and By-laws proposals.
Remember…Our Auxiliary is only as strong as member participation. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to make this a stellar year!
