The two AP Italian workshops, one at Eastchester High School and
one at Fordham University, were successful. By now, all our colleagues
are well prepared to take their journey in implementing the new course.
ITA OFFICERS: This gives me the opportunity to thank Dr. Alfio Russo, Director of the
Lucrezia Lindia, President Education Office at the Consulate, for helping us with the proposals in
Rosa Riccio Pietanza, Vice President obtaining the necessary funds from NIAF, the Minister of Foreign
Maria Colella, Treasurer Affairs, and the Embassy of Italy. Our participation was also visible at
Elizabeth Caparotta, Secretary the NYCAFLT-NYCAFLT/UFT Annual Professional Conference in
NYC, where Elizabeth Caparotta, winner of the AATI Scholarship,
Executive Board Members: presented her learning experiences at the University for Foreigners in
Concetta Giuliano Perugia.
Rosalie Romano As you already know, in October, I attended the AATI/NIAF
Francesco Lindia Conference in Washington, DC, where I presented the AP workshop

together with Bruna Boyle from Rhode Island, and Ida Wilder from
Edward Jackson Rochester. It gave us the opportunity to share our views with colleagues
from other states. Also, the Baltimore ACTF Conference that took place
in November, was extremely successful. I was amazed by all the
pedagogical workshops that Dr. Luigi De Santis from the Italian
ITA Spring Program Embassy, was able to organize. It must have been one of the most
attended Convention and part of this success goes to Vincenzo

Festa di Carnevale AATI Teachers.
March 10th Due to the large number of people planning to attend the February
ITA Workshop 10th, La Festa di Carnevale, the event has been moved from the
March 30th-April 2nd Consulate General of Italy, to the Scuola Italiana Guglielmo Marconi. It
Northeast Conference will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.. Vice consul, Daniel Bosio was of

High School Poetry Contest The Northeast Conference will take place at the Marriott Marquis
Saturday, June 10th Hotel in NYC. I met with Dr. Alfio Russo, Dr. Renata Sperandio, Dr.
Awards Ceremony Bernardo Paradiso, Dr. Angelo Gimondo, and others to plan the
conference. We are predicting a large participation. Therefore, please
hold the dates of March 30th to April 2nd, and do not forget that l’unione
fa la forza! Lets all be there and show that the Italian language is strong
Honorary Board Members: on the East coast. This year I was asked to serve on the Local Committee
for the evaluation of conference sessions as it gives me the opportunity to

On January 4 , New York State Senator Joseph Robach
introduced bill No. S6230 in the state senate that would
direct the commissioner of education to establish an
incentive program for school districts wishing to implement
programs of foreign language in the elementary and direct
the commissioner of education to establish an incentive
program for college students wishing to become foreign
language teachers. The same bill is to be introduced in
the Assembly – bill No. A8882 by Assemblyman Paul
Tonko. Copies of the bills can be obtained online.
Teachers and friends of LOTE should contact their NY
elected officials in the Senate and Assembly and
encourage them to support the bills.
