					      SEVERE WINTER WEATHER JOB ACTION SHEET FOR MAINTENANCE STAFF



   1. Check with administrator. If vehicle needs fuel, suggest picking up any necessary items while out
      getting fuel.
   2. Make sure out buildings, patio furniture, etc., are secure, covered and safe.
   3. Check necessary snow-removal equipment; chains, fuel, shovels, ropes, etc.
   4. Keep walkways, driveway, clear of snow.
   5. Make sure staff knows where shut-off valves for electric, water, gas are located.
   6. Check batteries on all flashlights. Make sure they are available to staff.
   7. Check area of trash storage; trash pick-up may be delayed during severe weather. Where will you
      put it?
   8. Other duties as assigned.

   1. Develop and use food checklist to monitor supplies.
   2. If time permits, order any necessary food for delivery BEFORE storm arrives.
   3. Develop and use dry goods checklist for supplies in case there is no power or water; paper plates,
      plastic silverware and cups, paper towels, small and large garbage bags, small and large food
      storage bags, etc.
   4. Freeze water that can be thawed for drinking and cooking in case water/power goes out.
   5. Develop and use a checklist for cleaning supplies. Are there wet wipes to clean with in case of
      water/power outage? Are there enough sanitary supplies?
   6. Plan menus that do not require cooking, or that could be prepared ahead and frozen. If power
      goes off, how will you cook? Are there enough snack items, peanut butter, etc.?
   7. Cross-train with housekeeping to be sure supplies/duties are adequate, and that quality of
      care/meals are good during prolonged power outages.
