COMMUNICATION      Oral
                       Frequently receive, understand and convey straightforward information in a clear and
                        accurate manner

                        explanation or interpretation to help others understand e.g. use and explain technical
                        terms and techniques.
                   Written
                       Frequently receive, understand and convey straightforward information in a clear and
                        accurate manner
                       On occasions, receive understand and convey information that needs careful
                        explanation or interpretation to help others understand e.g. completing data sheets /
                        templates and writing up the outcomes of an experiment.
TEAMWORK &             Participate in and deliver your contribution to a team and be cooperative when asked
MOTIVATION             On occasions, be supportive of and encouraging to others in a team and help to build
                        cooperation by setting an example and showing a flexible approach to delivering
                        team results; contribute to building team morale as an active participant in a team
                        eg ‘covering’ for a colleague
LIAISON &              Carry out standard day to day liaison using existing procedures to pass on
NETWORKING              information promptly
                       Keep people informed to ensure coordination of effort and that work is done
                        effectively
                       Participate in, and provide input to networks – within the institution or externally – to
                        exchange information eg increase own understanding and offer feedback as
                        requested
SERVICE                Respond to internal or external contacts requiring information
DELIVERY               Respond to internal or external contacts requiring a service
                       Respond to requests and refer the customer to the right person if necessary
                       Perform routine tasks with set standards or procedures

                        work area only eg changing or updating equipment or timescales
PLANNING &             Plan, prioritise and organise your own work or resources to achieve agreed

RESOURCES              Take steps to make effective use of and reduce waste of resources
                       Monitors stocks of resources and suitability of equipment so that corrective action
                        can be taken if needed
INITIATIVE &           Solve standard day to day problems by choosing between a limited number of
PROBLEM                 options: following guidelines or referring to what has been done before
SOLVING                Recognise when a problem should be referred to others
                       On occasions, use judgement, initiative or creativity to resolve problems that are
                        predictable but occur less frequently – the range of options will be defined by set or
                        organisational procedures or by the application of training or knowledge
ANALYSIS &             Perform basic checks or establish basic facts and report any mismatch, failure or
RESEARCH                anomaly eg count stock levels
                       On occasions analyse routine data or information using predetermined procedures eg
                        produce statistics on spreadsheet, carry out database searches
SENSORY &              Uses a range of skills and techniques to prepare equipment, specimens, samples
PHYSICAL DEMANDS        and/or materials and carry out standard and specialist experimental procedures and
                        tasks.
WORK                   Mainly work in an environment that is relatively stable or where any inherent risks
ENVIRONMENT             are controlled and managed.
                       On occasions, manage the impact of the environment on the work or safety of others
                        eg following safe procedures using machinery or equipment; ensuring that protective
                        clothing is available and worn

TEAM                  Advise or guide new starters working in the same role or unit on standard

KNOWLEDGE &           Apply knowledge typically acquired after a short period of practical training
