UCLAN STUDENT CAR PARKING ARRANGEMENTS
The Trust’s hospital sites are situated in urban, residential areas, and the number of parking
spaces available are limited to serve both the public on healthcare business and staff who
require to use the car as a means of transport to and from work or on hospital business.
To achieve the above aims, a managed car parking system is in operation which includes two
park and ride facilities and on site parking both at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley Hospital.
Staff wishing to apply for a car-parking permit are required to complete and return an application
to the Facilities & Services Helpdesk at Royal Preston Hospital, advising of their preference.
Permits are issued strictly in accordance with the system of eligibility criteria and therefore
applications are scored using a fair and objective system that takes into full account both work
and social needs.
However, the following options are available to UCLAN students:
Students who are on placement for under 2 weeks may obtain a car-parking permit from
the General Office at either Royal Preston Hospital or Chorley Hospital site at a cost of
50p per day by completing a Letter of Authorisation from their Manager. Payment to be
made at General Office by cash/cheque/credit card.
Students who are on placement for over 2 weeks may apply to join the Trust’s car
parking scheme (copy attached), which is criteria-based. To be eligible they must work a
regular 2-3-part shift that extends beyond 8 pm OR be an essential/regular car user.
Students who are eligible to park On-site may use the Royal Preston Hospital/Chorley
Hospital site. Payment to be made at General Office by cash/cheque/credit card where a
receipt will be issued. They should take the receipt to the Facilities & Services Helpdesk,
near Charters Restaurant at RPH when a permit/passcard will be issued.
Students who are eligible to Park and Ride may use the park and ride facility at
Grasshoppers. Currently buses operate between 7 am – 9.30 am and 4 pm – 7 pm and
department from Grasshoppers and the turning cycle opposite St Clare’s RC Church,
Fulwood. This service is currently free of charge.
Students who are not eligible to park on/off site may wish to consider other options, i.e.
public transport, car sharing, cycling. A journey plan from/to work is available on
request from the Facilities & Services Helpdesk at Royal Preston Hospital.
Car parking application forms must be fully completed as lack of information regarding
shifts worked, start and finsih times of shift and the period of their placement, may result
in a delay.
The payment receipt will need to be provided on collection of the permit.
Completed application forms should be sent to the Facilities & Services helpdesk at
Royal Preston Hospital prior to the start of their first placement date, so that students are
not parking inappropriately on the first day.
Students parking on the staff car park without a car parking permit, may receive an
Excess Charge Notice.
